If you want to come into the school park elsewhere and walk. Dear Parents We were blessed with a perfect day for the 2015 Swimming Carnival on Thursday. Congratulations to Age Champions and to the swimmers who started races knowing full-well that they wouldn’t be on the podium and ended their races as heroes. Attendance and participation were both exceptional – among students as well as parents and community members. Providing many points of engagement for each person in such a day is a real talent of Mr Thomas and his organizing team. The hospitality teams worked constantly providing refreshments for officials and supervisors and the number crunchers were so efficient with their recording that they had results finalised within only minutes of the relays finishing. Great collective work. The whole school Mass Opening the School Year focuses on Leadership and at today’s Mass it was a delight to see parents presenting their children with the Badges of Office. The annual challenge this early in the school year is to see how our new Kindergarten children handle such a big event and I endorse Fr Laurie’s comments of congratulation when he had them performing contortionist feats to pat themselves on the back. Parent Information Nights are coming up soon to ensure that everyone is “on the same page”. Sometimes at school we can slip into “teacher speak” and need to be reminded about staying real. Please question anything and everything that leaves you wondering. It is of huge benefit to the children when parents and teachers are of one mind and support one another. Few people volunteer their time to give instruction in religious knowledge. It is volunteers who assist in local public schools. Such generosity and fine example is a serious challenge to us all. “If they can do that then I .....”

CANTEEN HELP NEEDED Dear Parents/Guardians Welcome to a new school year! Our canteen runs on a voluntary basis and provides freshly prepared food on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. As well as fuelling the children for their school day activities, the canteen provides a service for busy parents by taking lunch preparation off the home agenda and a treat for children on their special days. I am asking for our new families and existing family members to put their hands up to help for just one day a term (or more if you can manage). You would be required from 10.00 am to about 2.30 pm you will be supplied lunch and you may make yourself a cuppa as needed. Everyone in your family is very welcome e.g. Dad’s, Nan’s, Pop’s Aunt’s and Uncle’s. I understand that many of our families help with reading and other things around our school, but it would be very much appreciated if you could give the canteen just one day a term. Children love to see their parents and family members at school. We have lots of fun and it is a good way to get to know other parents at the school and make new friends. The infants are really cute as they come up with their 20 cents or $1 and say “what can I buy with this?” I am really hoping that all our new (and existing) families will be able to help this year. I am looking forward to meeting you. Please fill out the slip at the end of the community news as soon as possible if you are able to help and send it in to the office or please ring me on 0427501508. Existing volunteers don’t need to fill out this form. Due to a typing error on the menu could you please change the Up and Go price to $1.80. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please make sure you put the class and Green or Gold on your children's lunch orders.
Thank you Donna Stokes - Canteen Manager
