St Raphael’s Catholic School Term 1, Week 5/A Newsletter 26 February 2018 Schools Review Surveys will be emailed out this week and again your participation is strongly encourages – the more responses received, the clearer the feedback will be and the better the planning and growth will be. Dear Parents Swimming representatives from our Primary Department will be travelling to Dubbo on Thursday to compete against students from other diocesan primary schools. On Friday there will be a “changing of the guard” when swimming representatives from our Secondary Department take to the pool at Dubbo. Wishes for safe travels and strong competing to all involved. Initiation rites traditionally mark the transition from childhood into adulthood. Such transitions typically require much preparation, coaching, commitment and challenge. The journey occurs with guidance by older and trusted companions. In 2018 Year 9 students are undertaking The Rite Journey through the forty school weeks and so the challenging conversations and experiences have already begun. On Thursday students of Year 9 and their parents will gather at dawn to share the sunrise and undertake a series of activities together. Safe journey’s to these young adults too. “Real Talk” and Year 12 Retreat at Wyangala are also designed to strengthen and connect our young adults. We continue to commit ourselves to not only the academic preparation of children but also their inner character and spiritual preparations too. Catholic School Week commences this coming weekend with the Commissioning Mass at 6pm on Saturday evening.. Other events in Catholic Schools Week are the K-12 assembly at 10am on Monday at the church with guest speaker, exstudent Matthew Pinson and Executive Director of the diocese, Mrs Jenny Allen. The Science and Engineering Challenge is conducted on Tuesday along with the K-12 combined Picnic Lunch. The Heritage Day Fair is on Friday from 1pm as is the staff v students sporting challenge. You are, of course, strongly encouraged to participate as much as humanly possible. P.O. Box 7, Cowra 2794 Tel: 6342.2940

I am hoping that we are all into a routine and that routine is helping us maintain a positive experience at St Raph’s. This year in the secondary department there is what is called a late room for students arriving after the school bell each morning. Instead of going to homeroom students are moved into a late room. Names are recorded, and possible consequences will be shared for those needing help with punctuality. The idea is to educate the students and ready them for the world beyond the school gates. Some of our students are almost ready to enter the workforce and being organised and on time is a very important trait. Being new to the area, it is very easy to pick our students down town. They are wearing the uniform of St Raphael’s. The uniform sets our students apart and again there are life lessons. Leaving school and entering the workforce requires us to adhere to certain rules, procedures and wear a uniform. There are consequences for not adhering to these rules and so there should be. The uniform must be worn correctly, it is an expectation. The word uniform means “remaining the same in all cases and at all times”. Therefore, the entire uniform is always worn from the correct socks P.O. Box 7, Cowra 2794 Tel: 6342.2940

and shoes through to the hat. Hats are required each day. All students must wear a hat both at recess and lunch, it is an expectation and is part of the uniform. Parents, if you could please assist with ensuring that your child is wearing the correct uniform each day and that they are inside the school gates ready to enter class at 8.50 each day. These positive habits can only lead to positive habits to take into life beyond school. Steve Carroll Wellbeing Coordinator The Study Centre Feeling swamped with assessments? Cowra Junior Soccer Registrations NOW OPEN Registrations for Cowra & District Junior Soccer for this season are now open. On-line registrations will remain open this year until Sunday April 1st. Due to rising insurance costs and other contributing costs rising our fees for this year have had to increase a little to cover these costs. Cowra Junior Soccer prices have not risen in many years however unfortunately it was unavoidable this season. The fees for this season are as follows: Ages 5-8: $80 Ages 9 and above: $110 If there are more than 3 players from the one family, you only pay for the oldest three. This year ALL registrations will be online only. It is an easy process that only takes a few minutes to complete. Therefore we will NOT be having a sign on day this year. The link on how to do this is at the bottom of this post. The competition is scheduled to start on 28th April the first Saturday of second term.
