St Raphael’s Catholic School Term 1, Week 6/B Newsletter 6th March 2017 presentation and we are most grateful for their generosity and support and that of CSU Bathurst.
Dear Parents
Michael Gallagher Principal
Balancing our “busyness” seems to be a growing need whether we are young or old. Too often does our haste to be elsewhere drag us past people and events that could really enrich us. “How are you going?” is often answered accurately with “flat out” and that usually means that somehow we “miss out” on valuable encounters. The movement substituting “slow food” for “fast food” has a good message about our damaging pace of life. Yes, we are busy, but are we busy about the right things? In our parish we are challenged to approach Lent more comprehensively: to Fast, to Give, to Prepare and to Pray. Lent is about doing more, rather than doing less. The “preparation colour” purple could be a strip of cloth along the centre of the dining table that reminds everyone. Sharing a regular time of family prayer. Giving a percentage of allowance to the missions. Adopt a special project of generosity for someone who needs it. Discuss your faith. Build up these habits of goodness and after six weeks how can we not be better people in a better world? Catholic Schools Week (March 6-10) happens across Australia this week and in Cowra there is an array of activities being conducted that reflects the breadth and balance that we promote in life. We listen to and learn from those who have gone this way before us, we share a meal across K-12 with parents and staff, we showcase the learning processes of the classrooms K12, we compete in sports with one another and with parents and staff, we pray together at Mass, we acknowledge our heritage, those who established the tone of our school and we work in service of the poor. If we could capture and replicate such a balance in the wider world, I believe we would develop a stronger, more cohesive and caring society. Please participate in all that you can this week. The Speech, Language and Literacy Summit conducted last Tuesday evening facilitated a wonderful, whole of Cowra, opportunity to ponder together the crucial importance language development in our young people. Professionals and parents from across all sectors of learning gathered. Professor Sharryne McLeod and Dr Sarah McDonough were stimulating, energetic and informative in their P.O. Box 7, Cowra 2794 Tel: 6342.2940
Loving God, we know that you are always with us. May we carry the light of Christ in our hearts, in our minds and in our deeds, so that our schools may be places of faith and learning and we learn to be the best that we can possibly be. Amen

This year we will be celebrating a Heritage Mass on Friday before the heritage Day Fete. Mass will begin at 11:30 am and all are welcome. The Heritage Day Fete will follow the Mass in the afternoon from 1:00pm-2:30pm Please try to join us for this lunch time fun. There will be stalls and lots of goodies to purchase. Games, a jumping castle, raffles and fun activities are also some other fund raisers at the fete. The idea is to raise money. No food or events are free. Electronic Newsletter from Week 7 Over the past few months we have been working to collect email contacts for parents and carers, with a view to improving school - home communication. Thank you to those who have supplied email address. We are now at the point where we can commence distribution of the weekly school newsletter via email. This will start next week. We can look forward to seeing photos in true colour, (not black and gold), and on time delivery to your preferred device, (no more lost newsletters to the monster in our children's school bags!). Other advantages, (aside from environmental and financial), will be the ability to email relevant information to specific year groups eg Sport & Excursions. Emails will be sent 'Blind Copy' from either myself (d.lette@bth.catholic.edu.au) or the front office (straphaels@bth.catholic.edu.au). If you are one of the few remaining families yet to be linked to this system, then please email your name, child's name & class to d.lette@bth.catholic.edu.au Thank you David Lette - Administration Coordinator K-12
