St Raphael’s Catholic School Term 1, Week 9/A Newsletter 21 March 2016

Holy Week Dear Parents, As we enter Holy Week 2016, Lent comes to a close and the Easter Season begins. You are strongly encouraged to participate as fully as possible in the rich events of Holy Week. Year 8 students take up their work in our parish by hosting the morning tea for parishioners at the Healing Mass (Wednesday (9:45am). This hospitality role is taken up twice yearly in the lead-up to Easter and in the lead-up to Christmas. Our P&F Association is meeting tonight for two purposes – the 2016 Annual General Meeting and the ordinary P&F Meeting for March. Your attendance and participation is strongly encouraged. This week a Parent Satisfaction Survey will be circulated – please take the opportunity to tell us about us from your perspective. The survey is part of research being conducted to identify areas for improvement. The surveys are anonymous and there is a two week return period before collation commences. Parent / Teacher discussions are being held in the first week of next term. Please be aware that the appointment process will be through the schools website and secondary students will be receiving progress reports before the end of term. Student activities around this time include Chess, Primary Winter Sports Trials, Secondary Hockey Trials, 2016 Youth Ambassador, Stations of the Cross. The Hockey Gala Day for Primary Schools was postponed until April 1 due to the inclement weather

God of such unwavering love, how do I "celebrate" the passion and death of Jesus? Give me the strength to see his love with honesty and compassion and to feel deeply your own forgiveness and mercy for me. Help me to understand how to "celebrate" this week. Parish Anointing Mass of the Sick for Easter rd This Wednesday, 23 March, our Eight Green students will attend the Mass of the Anointing of the Sick at 10am in Saint Raphael’s Hall. This will be followed by morning tea that the students supply. This is a valuable link with our parish and an experience of service for our students. The attendance of the students is greatly appreciated by the parishioners and the students themselves benefit from this connection. Students serve as wait staff and assist with washing up and sweeping of the hall. Eight Green students are asked to please provide one plate of either: savoury finger food, slices of fresh fruit or something “tempting” to eat for morning tea. Food is to be left at the front office on the morning of the mass. Please label all containers you wished to be returned. Disposable plates are easiest. Any school community members who are praying for healing are also warmly invited to attend. St Raphael’s School joins in celebrating the achievements of ex-students who completed the HSC in 2015. Many successes have been reported and the challenge of post-school life awaits. The school community is also excited by the success of 2 of our ex-students recently. Congratulations to ex-student Maddison Johnson on being chosen to attend the National Science and Youth Forum in Canberra. Maddison always exhibited the qualities of a serious student who had a clear understanding of her life goals. She was Dux of St Raphael’s in 2014. Georgia Waters completed her HSC last year and has begun studying Nursing at Charles Sturt University. Georgia was the proud recipient of a scholarship presented by the Australian Federation of Graduate Women at a dinner recently which was also attended by some teachers who are Graduate Women members. Computer Advice to Parents 1. Have your children block their Facebook page – that means that only their “friends” can have access, not the entire planet. 2. Sign up to Facebook yourself and have your child “friend” you – that means you have access to their page. 3. Visit those pages at random intervals – it will be most enlightening.
