St Raphael’s Catholic School Term 2, Week 3/B Newsletter 9 May 2016
Dear Parents The Mother’s Day liturgy on Friday was an enormous gathering of (slightly tearful) mothers. I hope the pampering for all mothers lasts longer than just Mothers’ Day and that your nurturing is both recognised and cherished. That the whole school K-11 assembled for this event was a clear statement of the importance we place on our mothers. On the weekend we began the 2016 Sacramental process by enrolling children for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Thank you to all those families who attended and demonstrated the importance of and support for the Sacramental life of the children. Cross Country running is currently on our sports agenda. Last week students competed at Coolah and Orange for the privilege and responsibility to proceed to the next level of representation at Eastern Creek. Thank you for the parental support that ensured these events are available to the children. Eisteddfod preparations are reaching a crescendo with choirs opening our participation by competing this week. The Diocesan Spelling Bee is approaching and all students have participated in the selection processes in both primary and secondary departments. We are almost to the stage of finalising who our representatives will be at Wellington on May 25 and 26. A squad of Primary and Secondary students will be representing St Raph’s in CWA Public Speaking on May 31st. All the very best to students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 who will be sitting for their literacy and numeracy tests this week (NAPLAN). The results of these tests will be reported to parents and to the school in term 3. Have a look back over the scope of current events – St Raph’s really is about educating the whole person.

Prayer for all Mothers Thank you, Lord, that you fill a mother’s heart with love, That you have instilled in her very being the need to protect her children if at all possible, Thank you for giving her the gift of nurturing her children, of teaching them, of comforting them, for feeding them and making a safe place for them. For guiding them to be all that God has created them to be. Fill every mother with love, wisdom and endurance, with strength and patience and joy. Give them ability to forgive again and again. Enable her to rely on You and call upon You Amen

Year 11 Hospitality Recently our Year 11 Hospitality students catered for the opening of the Caleen Art Exhibition. The students were involved in the planning, preparation, presentation and serving of finger food. We have received so much positive feedback about this event. Our students were commended for the delicious food and their professional presentation and service. Well done Hospitality students. A big thank you also to Mrs MacCabe and Mrs Brown.
Congratulations to this great team of young men. Led by their inspirational captain Riley Langfield, the boys made good ground all day up the middle of the field with strong running by Nick Brown, Sam Kelly and Mitchell Pattingale. We had one Year 5 student in the team and Eoghan Killick didn't let his older teammates down, being voted the best tackler of the day. Jackson McLeish and Harry Thuaux provided good ball around the rucks all day. Our speedsters, Aidan Bugeja, Maurice Brown and Daniel Britten were dominant out wide. Great work guys. Mission One completed. Now for the big one!

David Peachey Shield Last Tuesday, all of the Year 5 and 6 boys headed to River Park to play the Greatest Game Of All, Rugby League. St. Raphael's Catholic School had two Competitive teams and two Non-Competitive teams who all competed well on the day, representing our great school with enormous pride. Special thanks to the five Secondary boys that helped to run the NonCompetitive teams on the day. Our St. Raph’s 1 team were very successful, winning all three pool matches, then their semi-final, before being outclassed in the grand final, suffering their only loss of the day. Although losing this last match of the day, the St. Raphael's boys still made it through to the Finals Day, to be held in Dubbo on the last Wednesday of the term, June 29th. P.O.
