St Raphael’s Catholic School Term 2, Week 4/B Newsletter 15 May 2017

Forgiving God, We have not lived out our responsibility to be faithful stewards of creation.

Dear Parents Year 11 exams are being conducted this week. We wish for students a clear head and steady hand as they demonstrate their accumulated competencies. Year 6 students entering Year 7 in 2018 are attending an Information Evening tonight and following that up on Wednesday with some Secondary Schooling Experiences. We especially welcome students and families new to the school. Year 9 has the annual Reflection day on Wednesday at the Department of Primary Industries Research Station. Such breaks in the school routine do wonders for balance and perspective. The representative Chess team for the Secondary Department is travelling with Mr Rothe to Redbend at Forbes on Wednesday. We with them safe travel and strong performance. Public Speaking representatives from Primary and Secondary Departments travel to Orange tomorrow to compete against other schools in the region in the CWA Competition. The Secondary Department is conducting the annual House Spelling Bee tomorrow. Homeroom classes have been working through the process of determining representation. House representatives will compete for school representation on Friday. The qualifiers will represent the school at Wellington in the Diocesan Spelling Bee in Week 6. Items are being performed at the annual Cowra Eisteddfod and I want to acknowledge the dedication, perseverance and teamwork of all those involved. On Thursday our campaign begins with choirs. All the best to our talented representatives. The Parents and Friends Association is your chance to participate in the discussions and decision-making of the parent body. You are warmly invited to attend the monthly meetings on the third Monday of each month. Tonight’s meeting begins at 7pm in the Staff Room.

For this, we seek your pardon. Our overconsumption has impacted the poorest members of our human family most of all. For this, we ask your mercy. Our actions have endangered both the lives of our children today as well as those yet to be born. For this, we seek your forgiveness. Living God, As we meet you in nature, inspire us to see anew our place in the web of life. In our daily lives, help us to make daily choices that reflect global solidarity. As we reflect on the teaching of our faith, equip us to advocate for laws and policies that reflect your call to faithful stewardship. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen

Outward Bound Year 9 students are out there seeking the financial support of the community for Outward Bound 2017. Rather than being viewed as a cost there are many generous businesses around town viewing their contribution as an investment in the future of these students and in our Cowra community. Fostering leadership and resilience activities like Outward Bound pays dividends in the not-too-distant future. Some of the generous donations from local businesses supporting Outward Bound.

Peer Support K-6 Session 2 - Strong me! Our session this week for students involved in Stronger Together - our Peer Support module, encourages students to identify their personal strengths as a key protective factor to address bullying and looks at ways of utilising these positive attributes to support themselves and others to build resilience. Parents of participating students might like to ask what they said or thought their strengths might be and suggest some more. P.O. Box 7, Cowra 2794 Tel: 6342.2940
