St Raphael’s Catholic School Term 3, Week 10/B Newsletter 15th September 2014

Dear Parents Tomorrow is World Peace Day and you know only too well how urgently we need world peace. I commend to you the public ceremony at the Peace Bell tomorrow afternoon. The 2014 Quinn Cup was won by St Joseph’s, Oberon which also did a very good job in organizing this rather complex series of competitions in seventeen events over two days. In terms of student attitude and performance, I am (again) thrilled and proud to be associated with the St Raph’s people – absolute standouts the whole time. Congratulations to those students who represented their school and families so well last week at the inaugural running Archikidz out west.

The Parents and Friends Association has its monthly meeting tonight at 7pm as well as the “Got Books” project on Thursday. “Got Books” is a great way to get a new selection of reading material in preparation for the holidays as well as clearing some space on the book shelf as the children grow out of their book collection. As this is the last Newsletter of the term I wish you all happy, safe and refreshing holidays. School resumes th for all on Wednesday, October 8 when we will be able to wear summer uniforms – including school hats. Congratulations and thank you for a great term. Rest well in preparation for the challenging term ahead.

John 3:13-17

Welcoming new people into the family of St Raphael’s occurs at this time of year through Kindy Start, through parent information sessions and through an activities day for current Year 6 and Year 7 students, as well as students new to the secondary department next year. Appointments are now open for Parent / Teacher discussions which are being held in week 1 of next term. If you are unable to attend as planned, please contact the school office and another time can be negotiated for your discussion and remember to clear your appointment time on the school website – others may wish to take up that appointment. On this Thursday morning between 8:30 and 9:30am there is a “one hour stop work” which is part of a union campaign against proposed changes to industrial conditions. During that time we will minimise the impact on students with, at least, supervision being provided. There are numerous activities away from school this week: many Stage 5 students are at the performance of Shakespeare’s Henry V, others are participating in the Youth Forum on Tuesday, yet others are travelling to Sydney for the State finals of Netball. Our choir is performing at the Peace Bell ceremony and Stage 3 students are playing in the Milo T20 Blast School Cup. Year 3 students have their excursion to Wyangala Waters tomorrow.

When we are ready to affirm our own worth and to use our hidden talents, we hear the words … ‘God so loved the world …’ When we find the strength to forgive the person who has caused us harm or heartache, we hear the words … ‘God so loved the world …’ When our church can focus its gaze on those most despised, most ignored in our society, we hear the words … ‘God so loved the world …’ When our world leaders are prepared to reduce resource use for the sake of future generations, we hear the words … ‘God so loved the world …’
