Dear Parents “Resilience” is a word often used these days in relation to young people and refers to the ability to bounce back from difficult situations. It has been proposed that “cotton-wooling” the young has reduced their ability to deal well with the ebbs and flows of daily life. Let’s seek out ways in daily life for our children to strengthen their “bounce-back ability” in themselves and in their relationships. Diocesan Athletics for K-10 Schools was supposed to be held here last Friday to enable the selection of athletes for the Diocesan Primary Schools Athletics and the Diocesan Secondary Athletics in August. Wet conditions made for an unsafe surface, leading to the event being postponed until this coming Friday (July 31). Hosting such events requires vast preparation and liaison for which we are all immensely grateful. Particular recognition goes to Steve Thomas and Cherie MacCabe who lead a very competent team. Vinnies Winter Appeal was excellently supported by our senior students through sleeping rough last Friday night. Year 10 students and numerous staff members participated in the Winter Sleepout targeting fund raising for the homeless. Generous and selfless people doing good work for others is a great lead from our seniors. Next week Cowra marks two anniversaries: Aug 4 – 101 years since the declaration of war in WW1 and Aug 5 – 71 years since the POW breakout. All these years later we are still in desperate need of peace in our world … join the communal ceremonies, raise the awareness and grow peace. Reminder: Monday, August 17 is a Pupil Free Day.
