St Raphael’s Catholic School Term 3, Week 6/B Newsletter 21 August 2017
People of Faith Matthew 15:21-28
Dear Parents, Today we welcome Miss Anna Farley who will be working with Miss Gannon in Year 5 Gold until the end of Term 3. Last week representative athletes from schools of the diocese competed to select a team to represent the Bathurst Diocese at the next level of competition. Impressive performances by the two St Raphael’s contingents saw several students named in the squads for further representation. Book Week this week – “Escape to Everywhere”. On Wednesday Open Classrooms K-6 at noon and at 12:30 K-6 Book Parade is on Primary Playground 2 … break out the costume representing your favourite book character.
Faith: Many people lose faith in God when things go badly in their life. Sometimes they even blame him. Jesus does not promise that we will never suffer alone. He promises to walk beside us even in our darkest hour.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, when we turn away from you, help us to remember that you walk with us. Amen
NAPLAN reports were distributed last week to families all across Australia. If these reports raise any questions you would like to discuss, please contact the school and make an appointment to have a discussion with your child’s teacher. Semester 2 Individual Learning Plans were the topics of deep discussion between parents and teachers during last week. Such dialogue and mutual support are most important parts of the partnership for the benefit of the children. Applications for enrolment are being received at this stage so we must know the numbers in each year group very accurately to enable applications to be finalised. If you have plans for next year and beyond that will impact on the school, please let us know promptly.

Kinder Hospital Visit On Friday the 11th August, Kindergarten Green and Gold made a second trek up the hill but this time walked all the way to the hospital! Kathy Day and Leisel Van Eden met us in the foyer where we all cleaned our hands with hand sanitizer before visiting the physiology department. It was here where all of Kindergarten suddenly hurt their fingers and everyone of them received a plaster cast on a finger. Afterwards, John Lynch and Ken Anning showcased the ambulance vehicles. Luckily the ambulance officers were there for all of a sudden there were several Kinders who needed attention and they certainly got it. Afterwards we slipped on operating theatre caps and checked out the theatre with Natalie, Dr Brin and Dr John. Victoria Williams showed us the X-ray rooms and lots of different X-rays. This was also very interesting. We thank The Cowra Hospital for allowing us to visit. We had a wonderful learning experience and also came home with a new drink bottle.

Lost Property Lost property is a reality of school life. Labelling helps us to return the property promptly to the correct owner. We depend on families to check that the clothing children bring home is actually theirs. The vast majority is successfully reunited with its owner. During each term unlabelled / unclaimed property accumulates at the front office. Parents are encouraged to take the chance to come in and check. After a term unclaimed lost property is kept in a basket in the store room, still available for the owner to claim. After another term any remaining unclaimed lost property will be allocated to either St Vincent de Paul or our Clothing Pool.
