Follow up with your child: Talk with your child about how the meeting went. Discuss with your child what you learned. Show him or her how you will help with learning at home. Dear Parents The Book Week Book Parade will feature tomorrow (weather permitting). Costumes will be welcomed wet weather or not. The imagination and playfulness of the whole event is a delight. Yes, OK, I know the angst that dress-up days cause parents and entire households but children, young and old (secondary age and staff members) just seem to thrill when “putting themselves out there”. Thank you in anticipation for embracing the parade so wholeheartedly. Kindy Start parents met last week to get the ball rolling towards the big start next year. Applications for enrolments across the year groups are being received and numbers are looking rather tight in some year groups. If you have plans for next year that will impact on the school please let me so our planning can be as accurate as possible. Tomorrow we have Parent / Teacher Learning Discussions for Primary families and on Wednesday for Secondary families. Hopefully you have been able to make all the appointments you need online. Below are some tips to maximise the benefits from this learning discussion: Reflect: Think about the discussion in advance and set a goal for what you want to achieve. Prepare: Talk to your child. Identify questions to ask, such as “Is my child achieving at the appropriate level? What do you see as his or her strengths?” Be Proactive: Ask how work is assessed / graded. Ask what you can do at home to help your child. Ask how the teacher will both challenge and support your child when he or she needs it. Share: Be sure to share your thoughts and feelings about your child. Share with the teacher what you think your child is good at. Explain what he or she needs more help with. Make an Action Plan: Agree on a plan with the teacher. Write it down – noting especially what you will do to support the teacher / school at home. Schedule a follow up meeting if necessary. P.O. Staff Retreat On Monday the 17th of August our staff joined with the staff of Canowindra and Eugowra and spent the day “retreating”. Our facilitator for the day was Fr Richard Leonard. Congratulations to Alison Rutledge and the Productive Food Garden for securing a Buddy Bench for the school! Here’s what 2GZ and Bunnings Warehouse have to say about the Buddy Bench: “The Buddy Bench is a permanent bench in the school where children are encouraged to sit if they are feeling lonely, bullied or have no friends that day. If a child sits on the ‘Buddy Bench’ they must say yes to the first friend who invites them to play or walk and talk. If a child sees someone else sitting on the ‘Buddy Bench’ they must invite them to play or walk and talk. If two children are sitting on the ‘Buddy Bench’ they should turn to each other and invite each other to play or walk and talk” Introducing Parent Reps! Look out for the note that came home today about annual class and year Parent Reps. We’re excited about this new initiative! Being a Parent Rep is fun and satisfying. You can make a difference in your child’s education. Please support this project.
