St Raphael’s Catholic School Term 4, Week 2/B Newsletter 22 October 2018 Last Friday our school captains and senior prefects were inducted into leadership roles. We look forward to them fulfilling their roles. It's important to remember that we are all leaders in different ways.

Dear Parents, The exams of the HSC are serious hurdles for the students and represent one of the larger challenges of their lives. We continue to hold them in our prayers and wish them a clear head and a steady hand as they work their way through the next three weeks. The beautiful Liturgy held last Friday morning for the whole school family was for us to induct, celebrate and pray for our senior Student Leaders. It is significant that this Liturgy is at the time of year when we celebrate the feast of St Raphael and Mass to celebrate of junior Student Leaders is at the time year we celebrate the feast of St Brigid. Congratulations and welcome to Mrs Melissa Morrison who will be taking up classroom responsibilities from Mrs Amanda Edwards in Year 5 from Week 4 this term. We wish Mrs Edwards and family well as she commences parental leave. Thank you for those ever-generous souls who gave time to being here over the Cowra Open Gardens weekend. A lovely combination of parents, staff and students hosted the visits of 90ish guests. The list of activities for this week across the school is quite extraordinary and is a tribute to the breadth of our curriculum and the energy of our teachers (and students): HSC Exams, SES Cadets, P&F meeting, Bread & Cup luncheon, iRise Leaders day, Mission Month fundraiser, Year 6 Transition to Year 7, Diocesan Praise & Worship (Yr 6-10 @ Orange), Rotary Dinner (Indigenous Immersion Experience), Kindy Start, Excursions for Kindy (Local), Year 2 (Canberra), Year 3 (Local). Secondary Parent / Student / Teacher learning discussions are being held on November 6th. Booking details will be circulated via our newsletter. A clear direction, strong commitment and collaborative plan for each child is the ideal way through this final term.

Leadership is hard to define. Lord, let us be the ones to define it with justice. Leadership is like a handful of water. Lord, let us be the people to share it with those who thirst. Leadership is not about watching and correcting. Lord, let us remember it is about listening and connecting. Leadership is not about telling people what to do. Lord, let us find out what people want. Leadership is less about the love of power and more about the power of love. Lord, as we continue to undertake the role of leader let us be affirmed by the servant leadership we witness in your son Jesus. Let us walk in the path He has set and let those who will, follow Let our greatest passion be compassion. Our greatest strength love. Our greatest victory the reward of peace. In leading let us never fail to follow. In loving let us never fail. Amen We remember our Year 12 students Holy spirit inspire our students with acuteness in understanding what they study, power to remember it, subtlety in interpreting it, and clearness in expressing it. May they walk in Your grace. Amen

Mission Month Fundraiser- Crazy Sock Day World Mission Month takes place every year during October. As a way of raising funds for the Missions this year we will be having a 'Crazy Sock Day' on Wednesday - 24th of October. On this day Students are asked to wear their normal uniform and a crazy pair of socks for a gold coin donation. K-6 Headphones As part of our English curriculum this term, we will be regularly integrating ICT into our English learning. In order for all students to actively participate in these activities, we kindly ask that each student provides a set of headphones/earphones to be kept at school. These headphones do not need to be expensive (or even new), a cheap pair or something you already have at home will suffice. We thank you for your cooperation. Primary Curriculum Team

Cowra Open Gardens Whilst the weather was a little wild Saturday we welcomed in excess of 40 visitors to our productive food garden and rejuvenated embankment. Very proud of our volunteer students and their guided tours! Well done Georgie Anning, Toby Keen, Tilly Porter, Brodie and Jasmine Whitty, Tiarna, Alisha & Jayden Azzopardi, Matthew and Jack Graham. Mother Nature turned on her spring charm on Sunday, what a glorious day! Once again just over 40 visitors to our garden and plenty of tour guides in action.
