St Raphael’s Catholic School Term 4, Week 1/A Newsletter 6 October 2015

A Prayer for Refugees and Victims of War Dear Parents Welcome to Term 4, the term when the learning from the previous three terms is drawn together, the great achievements are celebrated and the planning for next year is in overdrive. The example we give our children is one of their most powerful learning tools. (That can be both good and bad). Our attitude to reading, to one another, to learning, to working, to playing, to praying are all giving instruction to our children, whether we like it or not. If we adults harness this powerful tool for the good of children we open up all manner of opportunities for them. This daily responsibility is most significant for each of us and we must use it well. During the children’s holiday work at the school has been steaming ahead. Regular, usually unseen work like carpet cleaning and pest control were carried out as well as maintenance tasks like gutter replacements and the more obvious freshening up of the front of the Primary Department block. Timetable improvements have been introduced for the Secondary. The new building in the Secondary Department has had all the services installed since the preparation of the grounds and the visible part of the build is about commence. On Thursday our Year 8 and Year 10 students are undertaking the Religious Knowledge test that is being administered across the diocese. Earlier in the year, Year 6 students undertook a similar assessment. As limited as this test is as an assessment tool, it is reassuring to see consistently sound results being achieved by our students. On Thursday the third Kindy Start session will be held and we welcome prospective students to the St Raphs family. The HSC soon begins and we particularly wish our 2013 graduates all the best as they undertake this next challenge. The works of Secondary Elective classes, the school band and Quinn Cup dancers will be on display for your entertainment and inspiration. A reminder that summer uniform (including school hat) is to be worn during terms 4 and 1.

God bless our eyes so that we will recognise injustices. God bless our ears so that we will hear the cry of the stranger. God bless our mouths so that we will speak words of welcome to newcomers. God bless our shoulders so we will be able to bear the weight of struggling for justice. God bless our hands so that we can work together with all people to establish peace.

“EducATion is the MoSt poWerful weApoN whiCh you Can use to chAnge tHe wOrlD” Nelson Mandela Get educated about refugees and Asylum Seekers.
