St Raphael’s Catholic School Term 4, Week 3/A Newsletter 20th October 2014 curriculum and connect with others making the same journey. Have you yet sorted which day you can assist with tuckshop this term and contacted Donna? Dear Parents Blessing and officially opening the revamped facilities at Vinnies occurred last Monday. St Raph’s was strongly represented by students and staff members who “slept rough” in the Vinnies Winter Sleepout earlier in the year (in the dead of winter) and raising $4500 for Vinnies support of homeless youth. Students were honoured to be invited to the blessing and luncheon that followed – the hospitality and the work of our Vinnies folk are magnificent. Year 9 students spent last Thursday at a day of reflection on Leadership. This event marked the commencement of the process of selection and appointment of student leaders and by the end of the November the leaders for 2015 will be in place. This Friday leaders from our Year 10 will gather with students from the secondary and K-10 schools of the diocese for the first to also focus on leadership. The Diocesan Director, Bishop McKenna and staff members from each of the schools will be there to support the student gathering. On Tuesday the annual Book Fair begins at our school Library and runs until Friday. What better gift for Christmas than books! Children will have the chance to peruse the wonderful exhibition of books and to compile their wish lists. Parents are invited and strongly encouraged to visit and purchase some treasures at quite good prices – a saving for you and a benefit for the school too. St Raphs Choir is honoured to have been invited to perform this coming week at the Albert Hall in Canberra for the United Nations assembly. The United Nations was the focus of Cowra’s Festival of International Understanding this year and, so impressed were they that invitations were issued to our School Choir and Cowra Ballet School’s Torsion. The event is a gathering of dignitaries from all over the world. Year 7 2015 Information Evening is being conducted next Monday (Oct 27) at the school. We begin in the Chapel, circulate throughout classrooms, see the work the work the students do and conclude with supper in St Brigid’s Hall. This gathering is particularly valuable for families whose child(ren) is/are making the transition to secondary school for the first time. Meet the teachers, inspect the facilities, discuss the P.O. Taken from a wall hanging in Mother Teresa’s Convent in Calcutta A little more praising, a little less jeering, A little more trusting, a little less fearing, A little more patience in trouble and pain, A little less willing at times to complain, A little more kindness worked into strife Are all that is needed to glorify life. A little more honor, a little less greed, A little more service; a little less creed, A little more courage when pathways are rough, A little more action, a little less bluff, A little more kindness by you and by me, And oh; what a wonderful world this would be!
