St Raphael’s Catholic School Term 4, Week 5/A Newsletter 6 November 2017
Dear Parents, The visit on Friday by “Bushwahzee” resulted in a delightful gathering of families in the evening during which there was plenty of singing, acting and dancing by the children and strongly supported by the singing and dancing of the parents. I strongly suspect that many mums and dads didn’t arrive expecting to up and dancing but they certainly did. Thank you for making it such a fun evening. In 2018 secondary students will have the option of participating in an Indigenous Immersion Experience at Central Australia at the end of Term 3. This evening there is the chance to hear more precisely what this will mean at an information session for parents and students. I strongly recommend your participation.
Lord, we come before you as we are. We ask you to take away from us all that makes us less than human. Strengthen us with the power of your Spirit that our attitude and outlook may develop, and our “way of looking” may become more like Yours. Help us to remain positive - encouraging and appreciating one another, looking upon people in the same way that You do. Amen.
You may have noticed that Outdoor Education features in some form or another in every Year Group of the Secondary Department. Later this week Year 11 will be away for a couple of days at Deep Pass Canyon in the upper reaches of Nayook Creek on the Newnes Plateau.

Student Leadership comes to the forefront of our minds around this time of year in particular, and nominees for leadership roles are those who have demonstrated considerable potential of a long period of time. Leadership has to be a great deal more than popularity and achievement in specific endeavours so the process of discernment becomes very important and considerable thought has to be invested by both nominees and decision makers. All of our HSC exams have now been completed and students have begun the wait for the release of results midway through December. We are very proud of the way these young people have invested themselves in crafting their academic platform for their future.

Library News It has been a wonderful year of borrowing and now we need to make sure books are returned and checked for repairs and stocktake. To make things easier I would like Kindergarten, Year One and Year Two to have all books returned by the end of this week. Once Swimming and other activities commence the returning and keeping track of library books gets a little complicated for the junior classes. Years Three to Year Ten will be expected to return all books by the end of week 8, no borrowing after week 6. Kerri Skinner Librarian
