St Raphael’s Catholic School Term 4, Week 7/A Newsletter 17th November 2014

Dear Parents I congratulate those students who were elected to leadership positions for 2015 – a page is included later in the Newsletter with names and roles. I also honour those students who accepted nomination by staff and who were not elected – that calls on equal courage. At a lovely ceremony on Friday a camellia garden and memorial plaque were dedicated to the memory of Charlotte Vella who lost her life in a car accident in 2012. Charlotte’s class mates, teachers and family gathered in support of one another and prayed in thanks for the privilege of having Charlotte light our lives. The garden and plaque are at the front of the school where our children gather of an afternoon to await their buses. In the years before 1997 the school magazine “The Crocus” had been an annual publication made up of student work samples, photos and class lists. In 2013 “The Crocus” was again published – this year “The Crocus” is out again, a photographic record of the events and people of 2014. Every student is included. In due course there is going to be a call for orders and the magazines will be delivered at the start of the 2015 school year (so that events right to the very end of the school year can be included). I am grateful for the work of Mr Phil Dean who has taken the lead role in this project that has been underway since the start of this year. As we head towards the end of November our big focus now is to ensure that the P&F Christmas Fair is a roaring success. A couple of vacancies still remain for two volunteers to help sell tickets for the rides. If you are able to help please register on the P&F website accessed through www.straphaelscowra.catholic.edu.au th

If not then just come along on the 28 November and enjoy a great night out for the family.

Matthew 25:14-30 Being thankful brings energy to our Christian life and to our prayer. When prayer is dull, we may bring new life to our prayer by going over what we are grateful for in our lives. We realise how much we are gifted. Good prayer will encourage us to give back of what we have received. All we are and have in the Christian life is for the service of God in the service of our neighbour.

School Vinnies Christmas Appeal A reminder, as a part of this year’s “St Raphael’s School St Vincent de Paul Christmas Appeal” we are asking for donations of Christmas Gifts for Children. This appeal will support our local Vinnies store and help struggling families experience all that Christmas has to offer. Each stage has been given an age group which their gifts will be for; however, if they wish to buy a gift for another age group you are more than welcome. It is asked that gifts are wrapped and labelled with the age and gender of the recipient and deliver it to your child’s Homeroom. As a school community we always think of others, we thank you in advance for your generosity.

BBQ Lunch 26 November th On Wednesday, 26 November a sausage sizzle will be run by some Y7 students to raise money for “Soldier On”. Founded in 2012, the organisation was inspired by the death of Lieutenant Michael Fussell, who was killed in an IED blast in Afghanistan in 2008. His friend John Bale looked for a way to support those who survived the blast. Soldier On is about Australians coming together to show their support for our physically and psychologically wounded. We want to show the men and women of our Defence forces that we will always have their backs. Sausage sandwiches will be $2 and drinks will be $1
