St Raphael’s Catholic School Term 4, Week 8/B Newsletter 24th November 2014 the biggest but the best of all the P&F functions of the year. See you all there.
Dear Parents Children being physically active in their daily lives sets up an excellent habit for their future. I have recently seen a significant increase in the number of students riding bikes to school rather than being delivered and collected at the gates. Of course this is an activity that needs to be allowed with consideration of age and stage of maturity. I strongly encourage you to consider this as an option for your children with a couple of provisos; that students know and practice road rules and that they are kitted correctly and safely. With increased use of technology comes increased responsibility to protect access. Often we undervalue the issue of security by being lax with passwords. Learning the importance of maintaining high security is a crucial lesson we, as adults, must foster among our young people, so I appeal to you strengthen and support this message at every opportunity as we do at school. Thank you for your support of the Infants Swimsafe programme this year. The importance of water-proofing our children cannot be overstated. Carnival Captains for 2015 were elected by their peers last week. Congratulations to the following students who have accepted responsibility for these roles of sporting leadership in primary and secondary departments: Xavier: Oliver Wilson, Zara McKenzie, Anthony Day and Katie Brown Kilbreda: Finn Ryan, Zoe Budge, Riley Barron and Madison Sparkes Raphael: Adam Vardy, Ruby Frazer, Zac Ashton and Anna McNamara The P&F Christmas Fair on Friday 28 is not only a major fundraiser but a brilliant community gathering that caters for everyone from grandparents to infants. The sense of energy, connection and just plain fun makes this not only P.O. Box 7, Cowra 2794 Tel: 6342.2940

We Had a Blast Over the weekend 20 of our students went off to Lake Burrendong for the annual Catholic Youth Festival for the Bathurst Diocese, BLAST. It is for students from Yr6 to Yr9. After a great bus trip on Saturday morning, we arrived at Burrendong at about 10:30am, thanks to our fantastic bus driver, Mr Wisemantel. We are so grateful to Mr Wisemantel for driving the bus. We are also grateful to Miss Gibbs and Mrs Bischof for being our Cowra leaders. We had fun with all of them. Email: straphaels@bth.catholic.edu.au School Website: www.straphaelscowra.catholic.edu.au
Over the weekend we participated in many activities, including workshops, singing, praying and reconciliation. Bishop Michael celebrated Mass for us on Saturday night. We also had lots of fun water activities and free time. It was certainly a hot weekend and everyone was feeling it, but that just made us participate in the water activities whole heartedly. It was great to spend time thinking about faith, meeting new people and just having fun. Look here next week for some personal recounts of this fantastic experience.
