Officical Guest In recognition of our show reaching a significant milestone of 70 years we have invited , His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) Governor-General of the Commonwealth Of Australia.

to officially open our 2016 show and be our guest for the day. Peter Cosgrove was born in Sydney in 1947. The son of a soldier, he attended Waverley College in Sydney and graduated in 1968 from the Royal Military College, Duntroon. Early in his military career, he fought in Vietnam,. He was awarded the Military Cross in 1971 . In 1972, he served as Aide de Camp to Governor-General Sir Paul Hasluck. He returned to regimental life as second in command of a Company, rising to Adjutant then Company Commander in the Army’s 5th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (5 RAR), then 5/7 RAR in Holsworthy, Sydney. He was appointed a Member in the Military Division of the Order of Australia (AM) for his service in command in 1983-84. Peter Cosgrove came to national attention in 1999 when, as Commander of the International Task Force East Timor (INTERFET), he was responsible for overseeing that country’s transition to independence. For his leadership in this role he was promoted to Companion in the Military Division of the Order of Australia (AC). Promoted to Lieutenant General, he was appointed Chief of Army in 2000. After further promotion to General, he served as Chief of the Defence Force from 20022005. He retired from the Australian Defence Force in 2005. On 25 March 2014, Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced that General Cosgrove would become a Knight in the Order of Australia when sworn in as GovernorGeneral. He was named Australian of the Year in 2001. 7

WOODSTOCK MEMORIAL SHOW Inc. Presidents Report Welcome to the 2016 Woodstock Memorial Show. I wish to congratulate the members who contributed to the success of the 2015 Woodstock Show—and what an outstanding show it was, with another record gate and visitors coming from all parts of the Central West and as far afield as Sydney and Canberra. The success of the show is not simply a matter of increased gate takings, but positive experiences that bring the community and visitors together. Upbeat comments on our show and the great time experienced by visitors is advertising that is hard to beat. It is no easy matter to keep our show: fresh, entertaining and relevant, but it appears that we have had a pretty good crack at it and the community has responded. . To our surprise, our work has been acknowledged by the Agricultural Societies of NSW with the prestigious 2016 Innovation Award and $5000, which we are investing in a PA system. It is vital that we actively seek new members from all parts of the community and foster a friendly environment that encourages them to have a voice in formulating policy and the future direction of our society. Our membership appears to understand what we stand for, that is: our community. Members may never come to a meeting but are there, to set up the show, to help run the show and to clean up after the show. This is a community that takes pride in itself and works together. I wish to thank the executive members and others who have guided me through this first year as president. Additionally, we are as always, indebted to our chief stewards. Their hard work, organisation and dedication delivers on the day that shows our community at its best. This year, we have started a building program to upgrade the Walli Memorial Hall, our main pavilion. Not only is it timely, in regard to the recent centennial of the Great War, to preserve the memory of those who served and fell in battle, it also allows us to upgrade to current safety requirements for public facilities. Finally, I wish to congratulate Kevin Graham on being named as Cowra Citizen of the Year, a truly worthy winner in a field of candidates that was described as outstanding. The Show Society proudly supported his application with the other community organisations from Woodstock. Sandy Morrison 2016 8
