Dr. Lisa S. Coico is the 12th President of The City College of New York and the first City University of New York graduate to lead City College. Since joining City College in 2010, Dr. Coico has overseen a resurgence in academic excellence, student engagement and faculty enhancement for the benefit of its diverse student population. Through a comprehensive program emanating from her vast experience and embracing the input of students, staff, faculty, alumni, community leaders, and others, President Coico has significantly upgraded the quality of the academic experience and student life as a whole at City College.
Major research projects throughout the STEM areas have been nurtured and increased academic emphasis on the extensive undergraduate and graduate offerings in liberal arts have attracted an increasingly high quality of students and faculty alike.
Vice President for Student Affairs - Juana Reina
Juana Reina’s work is distinguished by more than 30 years of experience as a senior student affairs officer in a number of higher education sectors including allied health, four-year public and private colleges, community colleges and the Ivy League. It is informed by over 25 years of service to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education as an accreditation evaluator for all aspects of student affairs at both two and four year institutions.
At City College, Reina has reorganized the Division of Student Affairs and has worked with talented colleagues and students to create programs aimed at fostering the professional development of the whole student, providing holistic support for student wellbeing in challenging times, and at increasing engegement among students, their families, staff and faculty. The work of the Division is based on a committment to the idea that experiences outside the classroom are valuable opportunities for learning, personal, and professional frowth that can aid retention and foster academic success.
Athletic Director - Dr. Kevin Abdur-Rahman
Dr. Kevin Abdur-Rahman became the Director of Athletics of the City College of New York in July 2014. Abdur-Rahman began his 21 years of service as the Director of the Herman Goldman Center for Sports & Recreation, our former athletic field. In 1994, he founded the Wingate Fitness Center, which as the first state of the art facility on the campys of the City College of New York. Rahman is a Philadelphia native who grew up in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. He is a 1970 graduate of Germantown High School. He began his career working with young people in the mid-1980’s by becoming a community organizer for an agency called Crisis Intervention Network. Crisis Intervention was founded to address the problems of gang violence in the city of Philadelphia. He received a Master of Human Services degree from Lincoln University and a Doctor of Education degree from Temple University. In 1988 Dr. Rahman founded a delinquency prevention program called Total Response, Inc. Total Response was a non-profit organization committed to the development and coordination of youth motivational programs, using athletics as a methodology. Interventions such as mentoring, counseling, academic advising, and substance abuse awareness, were incorporated into youth sports programming. Dr. Rahman served as a assistant with the Simon Gratz H.S. men’s basketball team. This experience led to the subject of his doctoral dissertation.

CITY COLLEGE WOMEN’S SOCCER Season Preview: The 2015 season begins with a new heach coach at the helm. Head coach Heather Ruger took over December 2014. During the 2014 season, the Beavers finished 9-8 overall and fell 0-1 to the #1-seeded Brooklyn College in the CUNYAC Semifinals. Elif Demircan was named 2015 CUNYAC Honorable Mention Player of the Year.
Women’s soccer 2015 CUNYAC Championship begins November 4 with the semifinals followed with the finals on November 7 all taking place at Brooklyn College. Head Women’s Soccer Coach: Heather Ruger Heather Ruger took over as the Head Coach of the City College of New York women’s soccer program in December 2014. Ruger, a CCNY graduate from the Class of 2014, was a four-year starter and three-year team captain for CCNY during her playing days. Ruger earned CUNYAC All-Star honors three times, anchoring the defense and helping the Beavers to the conference championship in 2012. This past season, she became an assistant coach with the program, gaining invaluable experience as City reached the conference semifinals.

Preview: Men’s soccer finished the 2014 season 6-11-1, but made their way into the CUNYAC Championship. The team fell 1-3 to Baruch in the CUNYAC quarterfinals. Afer the season, Maxwell Berkow was named to the CUNYAC First Team. Abdul Rasid Abdulai was named CCNY’s 2015 team captain. The men’s soccer 2015 CUNYAC Championship begins on October 28 with the quarterfinals hosted by the higher seeds. It continues October 31 and November 7 at Brooklyn College for the semifinals and finals.
Head Men’s Soccer Coach: Roberto Ignaccolo Roberto Ignaccolo has been the head coach of the City College of New York men’s soccer team and academic coordinator of the athletics department since the fall of 2007. Since joining the Beavers, Ignaccolo has coached several City University of New York Athletic Conference All-Stars and Player of the Years. In 2013, CCNY reached the CUNYAC Championship finals, with freshman goalkeeper Maxwell Berkow earning Conference Rookie of the Year honors.

CITY COLLEGE WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL Preview: The Beavers made it into the CUNYAC postseason tournament. First, they defeated the #5 seeded Brooklyn College 3-0 in the quarterfinals before falling 0-3 to the #1-seeded Hunter College. After the season, Veralucia Quispe was named to the CUNYAC Sportsmanship Team. The 2015 CUNYAC postseason tournament begins November 3 with the Quarterfinals at the higher seeds home court and come to a close November 6 when the semifinals and finals take place at Hunter College. Head Women’s Volleyball Coach: Dalliana Toussiant Dalliana Toussaint became the Head Coach of the City College of New York women’s volleyball program in the Fall of 2014. Toussaint, a CCNY alumni (Class of 2013) had a stellar four-year career with the Beavers, playing 143 matches over the course of her time at CCNY and accumulating 1124 career kills, 1423 digs, 187 service aces, 33 solo blocks and 70 block assists. Toussaint was a three time CUNYAC All-Star, earning Conference Player of the Year honors as a senior. Toussaint also won the 2012 CUNYAC Sportsmanship Award.

Preview: After the 2014 season, Samuel Gotts and Thomas Sullivan were named CUNYAC All-Stars. The men’s and women’s cross country team both finished fourth in the CUNYAC Championship during the 2014 season. They begin their 2015 campaign at the Baruch Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park on September 6. The Beavers host the CCNY XC Classic on October 11 taking place at Van Cortlandt Park. The 2015 CUNYAC Championship for cross country will take place October 25 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, New York with the women’s heat beginning at 9:30 a.m. followed by the men’s heat at 10:30 a.m.
Head Cross Country Coach: Hugh Reid Hugh Reid has served as head coach of the City College of New York track and field program and cross-country teams since the fall of 2010. Reid has won a combined nine CUNYAC Coach of the Year honors, while serving on the conference games committee. Under Reid’s leadership, over 125 CCNY student-athletes have earned all-conference all-star recognition, with six Athletes of the Year awards and five Rookie of the Year honors. Three Beavers have been named All-Americans under Reid’s watch.
