Look at all that has been made.
And yet even here, in the depths of darkness, there is hope.
Every sunrise and star, every creature and person.
A hope that cannot be conquered or shattered, a light that cannot be put out.
Good. Good because of Who made them, because they are imprinted with their Creator’s image. The One whom the wind and waves obey, and for Whom the morning stars will sing. Who breathes life into the dust and commands its formation, as every sinew and synapse is sewn together to form a people in His likeness
The Word Himself puts on flesh and dwells among us. His light shines in the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it. He alone is our hope, and He comes to us to remind us of what we have forgotten: That we are His. And there is nothing — nothing — that can separate us from Him. Neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come. No power is too great, no height is too far, no depth is too forbidding to separate us from His love.
A people sent out to care for, cultivate, and create in His world. Through His death on the cross, the power of sin is defeated, and through His resurrection, death itself comes undone.
Indeed, it is very good. ______
He brings us back to the light, because He is the Light. Back to the truth, because He is the Truth, and He gives us new life because He is Life.
Deceived into believing that we deserve more, we take what isn’t ours to take, forsaking a garden for a barren land.
He is our Redeemer, our Messiah, our Savior, our Lord — He is Jesus.
But good isn’t good enough.
______ Deceived into believing that we are in control, we rearrange the world into our likeness.
And He reminds us of our call, to fill the earth and subdue it. To care for, cultivate, and create.
Deceived into believing that we know best, we take the creation and compartmentalize it into the sacred and secular — separating the created from the Creator.
Embedded with the marks of our Creator, He sends us out like sparks into the night sky
And in this fragmented reality, we walk away from the light, until all that is left is darkness
Reflecting His image to all of creation, illuminating the entire world with His truth.
And the darkness is deep. Overwhelming. All encompassing.
We forget who we are. We forget Whose we are. We forget what the light looks like.
There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry, “Mine!”
Imagine a world where our studies, our relationships, our cities, our entire lives are lifted in praise to Him. An unending song, an undying light. This is our commission: To go into all the earth, making disciples, that every square inch of the world would know the name of Jesus. The Good News for all people. This is our call. This is our jubilee.

IN THE BEGINNING God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. — Genesis 1:1-5, ESV
