Act and ensure they meet policy requirements regarding insurance, safety and waste management.

They are then free to use the approved locations on a first-in-first-served basis.

There are fees associated with receiving a certificate of registration under the Food Act, but the Council is not proposing to charge additional fees or require separate permits in order to encourage uptake, reduce barriers and simplify the process.

The number of food trucks in the Hobart area has skyrocketed in recent years, and many of them were designed and constructed by Moonah-based business Tasmanian Food Truck Builders.

They have been producing high-quality food trucks, vans, trailers and tiny homes for nearly a decade, for clients across Tasmania and interstate.

Owner Jared Guc welcomed the Glenorchy City Council’s new policy.

“All major municipality councils should jump on board this,” he said.

“The food truck scene has been going really strongly for the past seven years or so, and the whole movement has shifted from your traditional fast foods to quality foods made great cooks and chefs.

“Some councils can make it quite difficult to get a permit to be able to operate.

“What the Glenorchy council has done is a giant step for the region to be able to access more food options. It’s awesome.”
