Canvassing Co-op Rivers Run Community Garden

The Rivers Run Community Garden nurtures strong relationships between neighbors and Co-op culture.

Their Steering Committee has an exciting agenda for this spring season, as it is their 10th anniversary. Their upcoming Earth Day, Bomba, and Harvest celebrations, as well as their Mother’s Day Paint and Chat, each call on an amount of creativity that is not often associated with gardens. Denise Shelley, secretary of the Steering Committee, explained to meditate and sketch.”

Many of the gardeners and volunteers practice their own forms of art. Event Coordinator Lelia the help of other volunteers, passed away earlier this month. The piece is constructed out of concrete and fabric on a chicken wire base, and adds to the garden’s feeling of serenity.

The Committee has hosted poetry readings in the past, as well as an interactive play titled, Mirrors of Blackness, by Shante Skyers and Kamrin Harbin.
