Extension to Vote: The Riverbay Board of Directors’ election was extended to June 9. Something must be done, and a change needs to happen. Our suggestion is the Election Committee should reach out to every shareholder by invitation to a town hall setting for only the low vote count buildings. In this town hall meeting, shareholders would have the opportunity to explain why they do not vote and abide by the responsibility laid out in their leases. The main reason also is to educate shareholders as to what is at stake and the purpose of the Board of Directors. We do not recall this ever being offered to the community.

Assemblyman Benedetto’s Coffee with Mike in Section 5 Pizzeria on May 27 (pictured left) provided information and allowed for discussion with shareholders. There are a few items SFA discussed. Thank you, shareholders, as quite a few showed up and discussed a wide range of topics. One shareholder complained because of Covid-19 and discontinuation of the MetroCard bus in April 2020. The MetroCard bus limited service restarted December 2022, however, with just one month. We are asking all three community MetroCard Bus locations be restored.

The BXM7 Express Bus – Speaking with the people, they prefer the present location as they have some shield from the weather as opposed to across the street where we have been informed the location is not wide enough to install a shelter. In our experience, there is a long wait for the Bx23, the only bus that travels to Pelham Bay, and we should have at least two buses.

Memorial Day tion. We remember our veterans and those serving around the world. Thank you! a strong and vibrant organization representing the ten high-rises plus a cluster of townhouses in Section 5 within our beautiful community. We will strive to make all those who started this organization for the betterment of our community very proud. One may reach Nelson Sweeting, president of SFA, at 646-644-4055.

To better understand the construction affecting our area, please go to YouTube and put “Project X Bruckner-Hutch” in the search line, text 718-219-2211 or email mpjazz@optonline.net for a link.

The Objective of the SFA shall be: To obtain the maximum quality of life for all shareholders residing in Section 5. To act as a liaison between Management, the building associations and townhouse associations in all problem areas. Remember this is our home, apartment, building and community. Let us all participate to keep it safe, clean and healthy.

“Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” –Henry Ford.

Ice Cream Giveaway: We will be giving out ice cream in July. No set date as of yet.

Happy birthday to all with that special day in June; we hope it will be all you want it to be. To the homebound and sick, we wish a speedy recovery. To the bereaved families, we give our sincere condolences. Please stay alert. If you see or hear something, report it to CCPD.

Remember those who gave their lives so that we might be free. “Home of the Free Because of the Brave”

Broun Place Townhouse Association

Memorial Day Weekend 2023 is now history. We sincerely hope your experience was as memorable as ours. We prayed for peace and no more wars. We attended the Veterans’ Memorial Day observance outdoors in the Veterans Park. We were happy seeing many neighbors and dignitaries. Memorial Day honors taking place indoors was May 24 in Building 23’s Association Room (pictured right). Our new Executive General Manager, Mr. Marvin L. Walton (back row, third from right), graciously attended and gave his time gensince Covid-19, a perfect group of ten Broun Place neighbors attended. Thank you, Building 23 president and Executive General Manager Mr. Walton for facilitating this meeting. An informal election was held and our executive committee goes forward with the following members: Eva Kindaichi-Lazaar, president; Vivian Burrus, vice president, and Lillian Richardson, vice president. Broun Place Townhouse Association committee is seeking Broun Place residents wanting to serve on our executive board. The secretary’s position and member-at-large are open.

Charles (Charlie) Rosen’s story in Co-op City is memorable and heroic. His leadership and charisma led and contributed to setting up policy here. His contributions are forever part of the history of Co-op City.

The Riverbay Board of Director’s election is now! Voting is your responsibility as a Co-op City cooperator. Mail the ballot in, read the statements of the candidates and make your decisions. If you do not vote, you cannot blame anyone for who is elected.

Also, why is no one asking what is going on with commercial leasing? Is there an outside vendor doing the leasing and identifying spaces? Are there programs solicitating people to operate spaces? Where do they advertise?

New event programs are coming and new interesting musical and theatrical events as well. Read the Co-op City Times for community information. I was able to catch-up on the details of the debates, thanks to the Co-op City Times Regarding recycling gently-used articles, you can recycle them at the front or rear of Garage #6 in the blue and pink bins. The dumpster pad bins are used as follows: the white bin is for paper, while green and blue are for all other house garbage. Mattresses are required to be covered. Use pedestrian bins for masks. It is so important not to litter. Do not leave bags of clothes on dumpster pads or next to recycling bins.

Seniors, register with the Riverbay “RUOK” emergency contact program. This is critical for those living alone or with chronic illness. Seniors, get involved with JASA.

NCNW National – On May 18, NCNW, in collaboration with Black Women’s Roundtable, sent a letter on the Federal Budget to the White House and Congressional leadership, urging them to reject any policy changes that would increase poverty or threaten the health care and well-being of all Americans, including millions of children. In this letter, we expressed disappointment in political leaders’ attempts to resolve this crisis by placing undue burdens on our nation’s most vulnerable citizens. The letter also encouraged the President to seek solutions that create more equitable outcomes for the American people.

NCNW, in partnership with the Legacy Eight Civil Rights Organizations, engaged in a social media storm, calling for policing accountability and reforms, as part of Police Week 2023. This culminated in a joint press release with civil rights orga- nizations, urging Congress to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, and condemning their failure to advance legislation to bring accountability to law enforcement.

Building 33 Association

Good day.

I posted a note in the lobby to encourage shareholders to vote. A handwritten response was scribbled anonymously on the notice and it implied that I was using scare tactics to get people to vote when it does not matter because nothing gets done anyway. I have a few questions for that cooperator. Have you encountered a problem with Riverbay, did not get satisfaction, attended a building meeting and reported this to the Building 33 Association? Did you notify the Section 5 Association? Did you write an email to any of the Board members, your liaison to Riverbay? Before I became president and the time changed, the garage lighting was still on the old schedule and it was extremely dark when I left for work. After not getting satisfaction from anyone else, I emailed every Board mem-ported it, and the problem was solved. So, please do not say nothing gets done. When a problem is mentioned to your Building Association, we do try to help. I know it can be a daunting experience when you have an issue and it appears no one is helping you. But there are ways to get every single person on that Board to help you. You must ask for help. I can be contacted at amayo14033@gmail. com. In the meantime, get those green envelopes out and vote! And if you are not sure whom to vote for, tune into channel 12 (MATV) or channel 591 (Altice) at 10 a.m., 8 p.m., or 3 a.m. to watch the third Candidates’ Forum. Get to know the candidates and vote!

Two open bags of raw garbage that included yellow rice was left in the basewithout rinsing them! You or your children must understand the consequences if this continues. I cannot believe adults are allowing this to happen. I have an idea who left the stuff there by the contents. You will be issued a Community cComplaint if we see you leaving your stuff there like that. We do not want to live with mice and roaches, do you?

Before you turn on those convectors, you should clean them as instructed and stick a half aluminum pan under where the plate sits until you can get something better to monitor leaks.

There will be a Senior Box Food Distribution at the Dreiser Center on June 8 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Must have a photo ID and proof of address.

Get your body moving on Double Dutch Day on Saturday, June 10, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Children and adults can participate. There will be prizes, awards, snacks and refreshments!

I am running out of space, so take care and walk good!

Building 27 Association

Hello, neighbors. We hope all is well. Good news, the emergency alert of the pandemic has been lifted. However, stay alert and careful. It appears many people are still wearing their masks. By all means, take care of yourselves.

Memorial Day – Thank you to the brave men and women who have made around the world, we honor you today and every day. It was a beautiful day with comfortable weather. We trust all enjoyed.

The Building 27 Association expresses our thanks to Mr. Aaron Carnegie who presided over the Association meeting on May 18. We also were delighted and thank both of our Guest Speakers: our new Riverbay Executive General Manager Marvin Walton and Deputy Manager Warren Mitchell for taking time out of their busy schedule to come and share information and communicate with the shareholders. Remember, Mr. Walton encouraged the cooperators to read the Coop City Times over the next few months as he will be submitting a manager report. Mr. Walton informed us he will share with the cooperators several items he will focus on in the coming months, working along with the Board of Directors, to ensure accountability on all levels of the corporation.

Extension to vote – The Riverbay Board of Directors election was extended to June 9. Why? Every year, there is a Board of Directors election. The Election Committee is aware of the low count buildings of shareholders who do not vote each year. My suggestion would be to meet with these buildings in a town hall setting with an invitation by letter. This would give the shareholders the opportunity to explain the reason as to why they do not vote and to educate them as to the purpose of the Board of Directors. Co-op City has a long waiting list. Every shareholder was fortunate enough to be chosen from that list. Should we revisit our leases as to the responsibility of every shareholder and not just a few who live in the Co-op City buildings?

Happy birthday to those celebrating this month. We continue to offer our sincere sympathy and condolences to the families that lost loved ones. We wish all the best of health and safety. Contact Lydia Rondon at 718-583-3040 and she will gladly acknowledge your birthday by sending you a card, as she is excellent in sharing goodwill. Also, notify her of any illness, or if a neighbor has become deceased or transferred to a nursing home.
