Chairman’s Message Before taking the reins as your 2019 Chairman, I met with past Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce chairpersons for their insights and input during their time serving our Chamber of Commerce. While each had their own unique opinion and perspectives, the one piece of advice that each past chairperson gave me was to have fun. For me, 2019 was a fun time to serve as your chairman. Our membership continues to grow as our community grows. During the past year, we have welcomed two new Diamond Members to the CDA Chamber of Commerce. We have seen steady attendance and engagement at chamber events such as Upbeat Breakfast and Business After Hours. I want to thank each Chamber Committee for bringing forward fun and engaging programs that bring value to our chamber membership. This year, our executive committee met with the Coeur d’Alene Area Economic Development Corporation to explore partnership opportunities to help each organization in their shared mission. Our two organizations have identified areas in Workforce Development to partner with each other intending to create more career opportunities for residents of Kootenai County.

“Our members are a fantastic collection of businesses and people that make our community one of the best places in the world to live, work, and play.”

As such is life, many changes have taken place over the last year. We have seen members and community leaders come and go through committees, boards, and external organizations. Our own CEO, Steve Wilson, is retiring at the end of this year, and a new CEO will be taking his place to lead our Chamber into the future. A lot of much appreciated hard work was done by our search committee, our chamber staff, chamber committees, volunteers and community leaders in helping the CDA Chamber with the search for our new CEO. A huge thank you goes to Heidi Rogers and Rick Rasmussen for leading this search. The future is very bright for the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce. The executive committee and board of directors are filled with strong leaders who care about our community. Our Chamber staff is still the backbone of all the work our chamber does, and I can never thank them enough for all the hard work they do. Our committees continually work to create and support programs that engage our membership. Finally, our members are a fantastic collection of businesses and people that make our community one of the best places in the world to live, work, and play. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Chairman.

A Message from Steve Wilson, CEO Emeritus With only a few more months before my retirement, I want to sincerely thank the board and membership for providing me the opportunity to lead this great organization; any organization is only as good as its people. I have been blessed with engaged membership volunteers and dedicated staff who have contributed immensely to the Chamber and made my job easier. Thank you all. The future of Coeur d’Alene is bright. Given all the attributes and resources that comprise our great community, people will no doubt continue to migrate here. Growth is inevitable, and thus, the management and the social issues associated with growth will require leadership from the business community and our nonprofit members. Front and center before your Chamber leadership will be many community concerns. Issues such as affordable housing, public safety, healthcare access, property taxes, workforce development, early childhood education, infrastructure maintenance, and transportation expansion. Maintaining our water quality and forest lands, and providing quality education focused on the requirements of a rapidly changing world must be addressed as well. All this while delivering business marketing programs and opportunities that form the traditional backbone of a Chamber. Chambers are uniquely designed to address these issues through a collaborative and inclusive process. I do not doubt that these challenges will be met with the thoughtful leadership historically provided. It has been an honor and pleasure to serve the CDA Chamber.

Thank you, STW

A Message from the Incoming Chair Since moving here 29 years ago, I have never taken for granted what makes our community such a treasure. I genuinely believe it’s the residents of Coeur d’Alene and the surrounding area that make North Idaho so unique. I look forward to serving our community as Chairman of the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce, and working alongside the chamber staff, the Coeur d’Alene Convention & Visitors Bureau, Coeur d’Alene Arts and Culture Alliance, CDA 2030, the Coeur d’Alene Downtown Association and the North Idaho Centennial Trail Foundation. I want to thank CEO, Steve Wilson, for his effective leadership over the last eight years. He leaves the CDA Chamber in an enviable position to welcome our next leader. To have an effective transition in leadership, Steve has agreed to stay through the end of the year. His willingness to assist with our leadership transition reflects the dedication and commitment he has shown throughout his term as CEO of the Chamber.

“I genuinely believe it’s the residents of Coeur d’Alene and the surrounding area that make North Idaho so unique.”

With nearly 1,000 members and representing over 39,000 local employees, the Coeur d’Alene Chamber is the state’s second largest Chamber of Commerce. I take seriously our role to serve and elevate our community through advocacy for local businesses. It is truly an honor to serve a nonprofit organization with such an essential purpose. Together we will make a difference! I look forward to working with all of you and appreciate your membership. Cheers!
