2013 Class Sessions
D
uring their year in Leadership Coeur d’Alene, class members attended a variety of lectures, demonstrations, tours and activities that allowed them to gain a better understanding of our community. The class met one day per month, with each day focused on a different community theme. They discussed a variety of issues with community leaders, participated in team building exercises and were introduced to businesses and organizations in Coeur d’Alene that have been key factors in our area’s history, development and daily life. Members from the Leadership Class of 2012 were in charge of planning each session, taking into consideration their personal experiences in the program. This task allows former classmates to put their skills to work and demonstrate their growth in leadership. At the end of each day, the class conducted a “Best of the Best” discussion, where they looked at the pros and cons throughout the day and provided suggestions for the future. The comments from each day were collected and used at the Class Retreat to help plan the 2013 Leadership program. The following provide a summary of each day through Leadership 2013. The Leadership Committee thanks all of the community members who have supported the Leadership program throughout the years and have made this experience possible for hundreds of future leaders.

ost of the participants arrived on time at the Chilco Mill in Athol but several ended up confused by a map that had an incorrect destination address. After gathering and laughing about where we had all ended up, the group had a remarkable tour of the facility. Plain from the outside, the inside of the mill was visibly advanced with log scanners, automated saws, and conveyors which maximize the possibilities of the former tree. Each participant was impressed about the work of the Idaho Forest Group to promote sustainable foresting. Atkinson and Alan Harper explained the importance of people and the work of the consolidated mills for a vibrant local and statewide economy. From above ground to below, Steve Petroni, Exploration Manager of Hecla Mining Company, gave historical and visionary perspectives on the largest continuously operating mining company in the world. From investment in Mullan to recent purchases in Venezuela and Quebec, Hecla plans to provide sustainable minerals for daily needs. Our final speaker was Dave Groeschl from the Idaho Department of Lands who discussed how management of Idaho’s lands provides prosperity to our habitats, schools, and residents. Afterwards our class drove to North Idaho College’s Student Union in the Driftwood Bay room where we met Brandi Mayes from Community Roots who shared her work in developing a community “Gathering Garden” near the college where vegetables can be shared and residents can learn about sustainable horticulture. Bill McElver, Dennis Cunningham, Ed Moreen and Steve Silkworth spent time discussing how local agencies are working to improve the quality of the community through sustained efforts. Cunningham, builder with Active West Development, added how residential building practices are being adjusted to take advantage of lasting energy usage and building material conservation. Moreen ended the session with a lasting lesson on what happens when we do not pay attention to the environment around us as he, along with the federal EPA, highlighted the many years of abuse in the Silver Valley, how those dreadful decisions still negatively impact our lives, and what agencies are doing to mediate the numerous issues that linger decades afterward. After a quick lunch provided by NIC, our group headed to Higgins Point where we met with Gary Stevens from the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality. He presented information about the quality of the water below us in the Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer and how the water was deposited as a result of an ice dam of the Clark Fork River. Next, Jim Fredricks provided information about how the numerous species of fish in Idaho are maintained and how decisions about which fish to stock effect the habits of anglers in the state. With the afternoon coming to a close, we drove back to the City of Coeur d’Alene’s Wastewater Treatment Plant. There, the team met lively Sid Fredrickson who proudly toured our group through foul smelling rooms in order to see how the department turns waste into clarified drinking water. His presentation and knowledge about these practices were highlighted by viewing the prize-winning pumpkin patches, koi ponds, and the new Coeur d’Green fertilizer which will be used in the redevelopment of McEuen Field to bring perpetual feeding to the soil. Our class left informed and inspired by efforts to maintain Coeur d’Alene’s beauty and opportunity as well as how we can use our work as leaders to maintain it for future generations. 8

e started the day at Todd Lecture Hall at the North Idaho College Library with breakfast provided by the NY Bagel Company. The session planners introduced the Outdoor Pursuits manager and enthusiast, John Trotten. His job is to both introduce students at NIC to credited outdoor activities as well as serve the community and tourists with nonmotorized equipment to enjoy the area’s lakes and mountains. Our next speaker was Charlie Miller of the North Idaho Centennial Trail Foundation. This non-profit organization operates on a $70,000 per year budget. The Coeur d’Alene Marathon is an important part of the funds generated to maintain the trail. It has grown from 1,000 participants to 2,500 last year. He hopes to increase the number to 5,000. Charlie is also one of the organizers of Coeur d’Fondo around Lake Coeur d’Alene. Last year was their first annual ride, bringing in 800 riders. Randall Butt from the Idaho Parks and Recreation Department spoke next. Randall works at seven different parks in our area, the most popular being Priest Lake, which requires reservations to be made nine months in advance. Randall will join us later at Farragut State Park. Jared Forsyth was our last speaker with Western Waters and Coeur d’Alene Adventures. He is an entrepreneur from Montana who offers online booking of many outdoor activities all on one web site. such as horseback riding, kayaking, and bike rentals. Next we walked to Schuler Performing Arts and were given a tour of the 1,171 seat auditorium by Jay Carkhuff. Roberta Larson form the Art Alliance gave us a little history of the theatres in downtown Coeur d’Alene. We then boarded a bus to go downtown to visit Buddy Le, Coeur d’Alene Galleries owner. We walked to the Cd’A Library and listened to Susan Nipp, the author of Wee Sing children’s books and the popular Mudgy and Millie book and statues. She loves Cd’A and put her favorite places into a hide and seek themed book for children to walk around and discover Coeur d’Alene. The Moose and mouse project has raised over $93,000 in five years. She donates all the proceeds back to the Cd’A Library and has published over 20,000 books. Eating our lunch on the bus to Farragut Park, we voted to donate our time and money to the Boys and Girls Club. Randall Butt joined us and gave a tour of the 4,000 acres that the U.S. Navy built after Pearl Harbor was bombed in 1942. At that time, there were 60,000 men at boot camp training in numerous barracks. Overall 293,381 soldiers were trained at Farragut. In 1974, in conjunction with the Spokane World’s Fair, more campgrounds were added to accommodate visitors from all over the country. Weddings, camping, and disc golfing are some of the activities currently happening at Farragut. The last stop of the day was at Silverwood Theme Park, formerly the Henley Aerodrome. The Norton family owns and operates this park that opened in 1988. In 2003 they added Boulder Beach Water Park and the attendance jumped 34%. In 2009 they opened Scarywood that extends the short season into the fall. They operate on 450 acres with another 200 acres for expansion. They are the only theme park in the Northwest. Tourists last year spent over $79.5 million dollars in Kootenai County. Silverwood donates regularly to the Children’s Village and the Ronald McDonald House. They also sponsor the “Night of Stars” once a year and host over 5,000 mentally and physically challenged people who come out for a free night of fun. They also provide helpers to transport the individuals into each ride. 10

n the banks of the Coeur d’Alene River, the Class of 2013 started the day at the second floor of Harbor Center with the University of Idaho with breakfast provided by LePeep Café. Brent Lyles from the Chamber’s Business Development Committee discussed how new and established businesses grow in the framework of customer service, community service, impact, and innovation. Our next speaker was Troy Tymeson, the Finance Director for the City of Coeur d’Alene. Shooting candy across the room, Troy’s spirit for the community was infectious and his background on how the city grows and operates financially was impressive. A great follow for Troy was Tony Berns, the Executive Director of Lake City Development Corporation who uses a percentage of the increase in property tax based on their work to raise values. Specifically, their work have helped fund the Kroc Center, Riverstone, Parkside and McEuen Towers, Mill River, the Higher Education Corridor, and many more developments. Our next presenters represented local real estate with Charlie Nipp, Pat Eberlin, and Joel Pearl. Each was upbeat about the promise in our community, especially within the coming year. Added to the panel was the vibrantly dressed Jimmy McAndrew from Wells Fargo Home Mortgage who reminded us that decisions made away from Coeur d’Alene at the federal and state level will impact many future decisions. Lurking in the back of the room for much of the morning was John Mitchell, who was identified by many speakers as an idol. Once speaking to the group, he passionately addressed the need for a “sense of risks and what to look forward to”. His presentation gave statistical validity to the day and provided a sense of the interconnectivity of the financial world. For our last presentation at Harbor Center, we warmly welcomed Jack Heath, president of Washington Trust Bank, David Bobbitt, Liese Razzeto, and Scott Lewis. With questions in tow, each brought figures that brought an aura of one-upmanship. Each proudly gave accolades to their connection to the community, volunteerism, and service but also stressed that they have money to lend, although on different levels. As our team travelled I-90 to Post Falls, the Buck Knives fabrication plant loomed. Its parking lot brimming with vehicles, you could tell that workers were busy using many historic tools and traditional methods to make an heirloom knife. Each of our team was able to don audio headsets and tour the bustling factory where sheets of steel and baskets of antlers are turned into cutlery and blades of all shapes and sizes. After having an opportunity to shop at the Buck Knives store, many brought their purchases to the upper floor conference room. There, we met Steve Griffitts with Jobs Plus who traversed the room like a proud parent as his enthusiasm for the area has brought many to live and work in North Idaho. Our final presentation brought four business powerhouses to the table – CJ Buck (Buck Knives), Tim Komberec (Empire Airlines), Dennis Staver (Esterline Interface Technologies), and Ron Nilson (Ground Force). Each focused on the need for a trained workforce to allow their businesses to grow in North Idaho and credited many local organizations for beginning that process. 12

opefully not beginning at a familiar location, the Leadership Coeur d’Alene Class of 2013 gathered at the Coeur d’Alene Police Department’s training room on Schreiber Way. As we gathered and shared a few messages, our first speaker, Undersheriff Travis Cheney shared his nationallyknown presentation on leadership. Although usually shown to law enforcement colleagues, the themes throughout were applicable and inspiring to our day. Our next speakers formed a panel of local law enforcement issues anchored by the outgoing Chief of Police for the City of Coeur d’Alene, Wayne Longo. As our group presented him with a small token of appreciation, his colleagues, Sheriff Ben Wolfinger, Special Agent Joshua Olmo, and Captain 13
Curtis Kastens presented information on the influence of cybercrime, the importance of collaboration, and the stern reminder that they should be “bothered” if we see anything out of the ordinary. As our team took a quick tour of the police department and through the storage yard behind, we walked to the local police and fire training facility, whose tower rises above Ramsey road and Kathleen Street. Once seated in the fire station, our team was treated to a presentation from Officer Justin Bangs who fights crime from the sky in a collaborative effort with the City of Spokane. With alternative methods of crime fighting emphasized, Captain Boyle and Sergeant O’Dell from the Kootenai County SWAT team discussed the importance of a well-trained and physically able team who has been serving quietly for years, although answering 39 calls last year. Finally, Officer Pat Cwik demonstrated his experience with drug enforcement. After dining on spaghetti from the Kootenai County Sheriff ’s Search and Rescue team, we were split into two groups to tour the tower and have a demonstration from the SWAT team. Seeing the officers barge through after a blast was certainly memorable and reinforced the pride in our local enforcers. After returning to our vehicles, our team travelled to the Kootenai County Jail on Government Way. Not completely knowing what to expect, we met with Deputy Lyons who is also a member of the SWAT team. He introduced us to Manus, his K-9 companion who demonstrated a keen sense of smell in order to win time with his toy. The partnership was evident. Near Deputy Lyons, we met Sergeant Higgins of the Sheriff ’s Marine Division who demonstrated the tools used to rescue or assist boaters, divers, and other recreationists on the water. With some of the implements costing over $100,000 apiece, it was valuable to see what fuels “the largest navy in Idaho”. Our leadership team then travelled indoors at the right time and entered the jail’s courtroom for our second panel representing our first responders and the key communicators. 911 Director Brad Coughenour, Jim Washko from the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department, and Sandy VonBehren from the Kootenai County Office of Emergency Management, were informative and discussed how emergencies begin and how we prepare and communicate to ensure the best possible outcome. At the end of this presentation, our group was broken into three for tours of the jail. Beginning in the holding area and passing through electronic “Sallys” past solitary cells, areas for personal belonging and destitute showers, Major Robertson and Lieutenant Holecek really opened the eyes of our team by showing “the yards” of cinderblock and razor wire and inmates locked behind Plexiglas. In many ways the tour was disillusioning in seeing other humans without their freedoms but it reminded our team as to the importance of a wellrun and consistently enforced jail, although it is greatly in need of expansion. Prosecutors Barry McHugh and Megan Marshall from the Kootenai County Public Defender’s office joined Judge Penny Friedlander to discuss how local, state, and national case law affects a courtroom in Idaho. 14

tarting off the day that our class was approaching 1,100 service hours and near our goal, we met at City Hall in downtown Coeur d’Alene for our 8th meeting as a team. We started
off the day with a small presentation from Mark Browning who reminded that government represents a service, no matter how we perceive the service. His remarks were poignant and allowed our group to prepare for a great session. Our group then had the honor of welcoming the Mayors of Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls, respectively, Sandy Bloem and Clay Larkin. Serving for over a quarter century combined, these two have seen and managed the great growth of our area. Both reflected upon the people who make a city come together – from the visible to the relatively invisible, who allow them to lead through vision. Mayor Bloem also reminded our class that we should always be true to ourselves, and “never drink iced tea” if elected (joke). Truly inspirational for their direction if often demanding times, both are role models for taking a stand, balancing their lives with their work, and remembering that perception can also be reality. 15
As part of the panel, but unique because of his position, Councilman Roger Saterfiel addressed our group in place of Mayor Ron McIntire from the City of Hayden. Unique because of serving in Hayden and working as the Solid Waste Superintendent for Kootenai County, Saterfiel implored us to find ways to work together and that choice always comes into play. Our next panel welcomed directors from Kootenai County, including Treasurer Tom Malzahn, Assessor Mike McDowell, Auditor/Clerk Cliff Hayes, and Commissioner Todd Tondee. With unique responsibilities inside of the county of 80,000 residents each explained their roles in the process to provide services to residents. Similarly, as counties are constitutionally mandated, commissioners really hold the responsibility of maintaining their own checks and balances. After a break, we were introduced to Helo Hancock who legally represents the Coeur d’Alene Tribe. Unique in their governmental structure, the work of the tribe is surrounded by misconceptions. We heard of the work of tribal leaders to diversify the economy past gaming while supporting the growing needs of the population. Senator John Goedde and Representative Luke Malek joined us next. As servants of the people in the Idaho legislature, both discussed the political muscle to receive a majority of votes from their colleagues – with or without challenge. Much of the conversation was about education and health care – two important topics in front of the populace and both prefaced the discussion with a reminder that encouraging feedback from all parties (including lobbyists) and making an informed decision. Our final speakers this morning were Sid Smith, Karen Roetter, and Judy Morbeck who represent our United States congressmen. All three discussed the challenge of working with local voters who have record distaste for their elected officials in Washington, but each focused on the local services available. They all summarized their conversations with a reminder that Senators Crapo and Risch, and Representative Labrador are always willing to answer questions from nearly any angle. Before lunch, our well-anticipated Mock City Council meeting was held with half of our class proposing the city grant a conditional permit for an adult dance club while some were opposed. Truly incredible acting was recognized through Oscar awards that participants could purchase for $10 and up. Then, the purchasers could give the awards to the participant that they thought brought the story to life. Our winners included:
• Mr(s). Whiptastic: Bongo Bill • Excellence in Penitence: Lighthouse Lita • Max-Huevos: Kid Keith • “Leave it to Beaver”: Chica Carrie • Best Double-entendre: Chica Carrie • Best Musical Rap: Rapped-Up Ryan

After enjoying a lunch from Olive Garden and Domino’s Pizza, the Class of 2013 enjoyed a first-time experience walking underneath the roadway of the Veteran’s Memorial Centennial Bridge that connects 300 feet above the ground on I-90. Our 2/3 mile tour demonstrated the engineering capacities to build the bridge over three years and the unique methods to maintain it. After, participants drove to the Idaho Transportation Department. Our first presenters were John Adams and Gene Soper. Although not employees, each talked passionately about the Coeur d’Alene Airport which serves more takeoffs and landings that Spokane International Airport. From its humble beginnings in the 1940s, Coeur d’Alene is now the second busiest airport in Idaho and provides an estimated $130m input to the economy. Our final presenters were charged with keeping our roadways safe. From Post Falls to the backside of Lake Coeur d’Alene, our local highway districts maintain nearly 600 miles of roads in the county. Discussions around how roads are sanded/de-iced and built provided important facts such as the cost of one mile of a typical road - $2m. The work of our elected and support staff in Coeur d’Alene and Idaho cannot be overstated. We appreciate the work of our officials on behalf of our citizenry and thank them for a great day. 16

A northern Idaho resident, Chair Soltman told our group about the unique structure that governs education in the state and how the State Board works differently with K-12 educational entities and community colleges/universities to benefit Idaho’s future citizens. He also shared some of the Board’s goals around continuing adequate funding and the push to continue education across the state. Our next presenters were the superintendents of the three local school districts – Matt Handelman of Coeur d’Alene, Maryann Rannels of Lakeland, and Jerry Keane of Post Falls. Each presented how their complex systems serve the entire community, even when only 25% of citizens will be immediately impacted by public education. All discussed the implementation of the Idaho Core Standards. Each touted high graduation rates and community support, but also reinforced the challenges to public education such as the growing poverty rate and special education. After an enjoyable student-led tour of Venture High School, our team drove to North Idaho College. Returning to the Student Union Building, we welcomed a quarter of presenters representing the alternative routes to education. 17
The first speaker was Dan Nicklay, principal of the acclaimed Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy who expounded upon how rigor and focus allows their school to produce quality graduates. Another educator on the panel were Scott and Colleen Thompson, who were inspired to open the North Idaho STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Charter School on the Rathdrum Prairie. As the growth for STEM education has increased, they feel that their school helps to enhance higher level thinking and problem solving skills. Our third panelist was Kimberly Young, who offers Christian-based schooling in Hayden. She wanted to reinforce to our group that many teachers in non-traditional schools are also certified, although the State of Idaho’s certification process is not always supportive of non-traditional methods. Finally, Kelly O’Brien addressed our panel around the options in Idaho as a homeschool. Idaho is unique in that the state requires very little verification of learning and credits cannot be withheld with verification from a parent or guardian. All of the panelists were in agreement in that expectations are being raised in Idaho. But, they all also believed that the “ceiling and the floor” must also be raised in order to have successful residents. Specifically, our state provides both the “best and worst” in education with lots of choices and limited accountability. After our lunch, a panel was convened of school support organizations. Christa Hazel, trustee of the Coeur d’Alene School District and parent volunteer, Ken Howard, Trustee of North Idaho College, Jimmy McAndrew, President of the EXCEL Foundation, and Idaho Senator John Goedde discussed how structures provide support for students and teachers. As Senator Goedde spoke of funding challenges in their current format, it was interesting to learn that money for K-12 education is constitutionally mandated whereby funds for colleges and universities are not. With autonomy in nearly every district or higher education institution, each presenter spoke of ways to get involved and provide support for those who need it most. Unfortunately, in many ways, that comes as an additional responsibility of the local taxpayer. Dean Doyle led tours through the labs of the Meyer Health Science Building including the Anatomy and Physiology lab, complete with dissected cats and cadavers. We also had the opportunity to see the wonderful facilities for nursing, physical therapy, and healthcare information before attending a rotation of activities provided by nursing students. Our final panel of the day introduced us to Paul Amador from the University of Idaho, Rocky Owens from Lewis-Clark State College, and Sarah Schmelzer from North Idaho College. Each of the colleges serving our area have a mission for outreach and, to that end, there is a possibility of a shared facility in the Educational Corridor for all programs. For our final presentation, we loaded a bus and headed to the Kootenai Technical Education Campus (KTEC). Located on the Rathdrum Prairie and in its second year, students from the three local school districts dual-enroll to take courses in mechanics, computer networking and design, welding, automotive and diesel repair, and pre-nursing. The program has been successful since inception according to Tim Forture, its director. And, with the facility and quality instructors, you can see why. The work of our teachers, support staff, and administrators in Coeur d’Alene cannot be overstated. We appreciate the work of our all of these participants for planning an enjoyable day.

e all recognize the stunning beauty of our community for recreation, tourism, and recognizing the beauty and economic opportunity available in Northern Idaho. However, there is a dichotomy as some flourish while others struggle. Leadership Coeur d’Alene congregated for their final session, “Quality of Life Day”, to look at the disparities and identify ways to improve. As our class arrived at St. Pius X Catholic Church’s Faith Formation Center, we realized that this day would be different than others. The day was not intended to show off, but provide context. Craig gave updates on our ongoing project to adopt a family and set up delivery with a reminder to provide community service hours to Stephanie. However, the tone for the day was set by Bob Driscoll from the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, who reminded our team that working together allows “our hearts to sing”. With that message in mind, we participated in a poverty simulation in the great room surrounded by service providers and creative situations that soon became real. Each of our classmates was assigned to a family down on their luck. These situations helped guide decisions as simple as going to school to the challenges of paying bills and temptations from 19
the outside world. As participants were dealt wild cards and had to make difficult situational decisions, we quickly realized that those with few resources struggle with the challenges they face and how important it is to provide triage services that are not duplicative but mutually support. After the simulation, Caryl Johnson from United Way of Kootenai County shared the good work of the agencies and how they provide monetary and other treasures with smaller agencies to provide greater impact in our region. With focus areas on income, education, basic needs, and health, she encouraged us to look at the Volunteer Center on their website, www.kootenaiunitedway. org, for ways to do more. Our first panel of the day welcomed Greg Orlando from Idaho Youth Ranch/Anchor House, Julie Lockhart from Children’s Village, and Dan English from CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). Together, they focused on how services in need are provided to children and young adults, specifically in that each has a similar mission. Each organization is run primarily from donations and it was made clear that they do a great deal of good with little common resources. After enjoying a lunch from our own Pita Pit, we switched to discussing those at the other end of the life spectrum, specifically seniors and the elderly. Kimberly Hobson from Coeur d’Alene Senior Living, Sally Richards from ElderHelp, and Amanda Miller from Hospice of North Idaho shared with us that from providing resources to pay monthly heating or electrical bills to providing comfort during aging, these agencies each have a focus on service in maintaining health. After departing the church, our class drove to the St. Vincent DePaul HELP Center located in the old Coeur d’Alene Public Library building on Harrison Drive. In their conference room, we met Jeff Conroy, executive director who gave background on their mission and how having their new facility consolidates over ten agencies under one roof. After the overview, we toured their transition housing center, thrift shop warehouse, and dining hall – all located on a single street, just north of their offices. Through foresight and with over 90 talented employees, you can see how St. Vincent DePaul provides incredible service to the impoverished, homeless, or in need. Our team then visited the Community Action Partnership food bank and Tesh, both located in the Atlas Industrial Park on west Coeur d’Alene. Although somewhat difficult to find, the food bank provides an invaluable service, giving over 6,000 families provisions throughout the year. They recently received support from Ginno Construction who renovated their facility to better serve the community. Just down the road, Tesh, Inc. provides opportunities for people with disabilities focused on job and living skills. Its director, Russ Dumas, focused on how the organization empowers over 500 kids over the past 20 years and provided over 1,000 jobs to our community. We thank our session planners for a tremendous session that enlightened all of us about how our leadership potential can only be reached through partnership. Additionally, we learned about the imperative nature of serving others through those connections.

t’s incredible to see that our year has ended, but we gathered on a cold January morning at the Elk Point Retreat Center, located on Potlatch Hill. There, overlooking Lake Coeur d’Alene and the beautiful community that we have learned so much about, we gathered to talk about how we want to positively impact the Class of 2014. We had homework as we arrived…to place our week’s worth of space change into a basket that would be added to our charitable fund. Almost $100 worth of change was collected in a pile nearly 5 inches high. We also started to smell meat from two directions – Craig started to smoke ribs for our afternoon social and Charlie, Trevor, John, Brenda, and JP cooked a full breakfast of pancakes, eggs, bacon, and hash browns. Our work began soon after as we reviewed each of the sessions’ “Best of the Best” and identified session planners and teams for the coming year. As we had identified initial teams after each session, this process did not take long. We also discussed how the opportunities for leadership do not end at graduation as several members of the team were elected by the class to sit on the Leadership Coeur d’Alene Board for presenting and reviewing the newest sessions. After the elections, we played “Memory Madness” where we were asked to blindly provide the full names and employers for everyone on our team. Ann Johnson had the most correct in the ten minutes provided while most scratched our heads. Although strong relationships were made, you could tell that they weren’t always on the business-side. However, two of our classmates, “Shazam” and “Chica” won weenies on a stick for not following the rules. Lunch was provided by Qdoba Mexican Grill and we moved into our final planned activity of the year – building a slingshot. We were divided into five teams and given rudimentary supplies with the challenge to launch a beanbag the furthest. Luckily, with multiple engineers on the team, many of our slingshots were outstanding with the team of Sean Brady, Brandi Davis, Shawn Bassham, Theresa Gibbons, and Stephanie Powers taking the prize and first crack at the prize table. Other teams were not so lucky although it was an activity of high engagement. As the day ended, our team voluntarily stayed behind to enjoy some camaraderie. We enjoyed “Cuss’” ribs and beverages/ items provided by the Class of 2013’s leadership. Truly, it was a great opportunity to end a tremendous year. We look forward to taking the program further for the incoming class.
