Motivated Disagreements Vaccination Decisions and

Bert Baumgaertner, Ph. D. University of Idaho Associate Professor of Philosophy The decision to vaccinate is an example where information about a disease and vaccine is not sufficient to explain people's choices. This also means disagreements about vaccination are rooted in more than just (mis)information. This talk will discuss some general strategies for resolving disagreements and apply them in the context of vaccination decisions.

Coeur d’Alene Basin Superfund Site Cleanup

Important Things to Know: Healthy Living in Our Area The Silver Valley and Coeur d’Alene Basin are great places to live, work, and play. Knowing the facts about our area will help keep you and your family healthy. Past mining practices left behind large volumes of lead and other heavy metals in Basin soils. Since the 1980s, we have made great progress in reducing risks from the contamination. Even so, lead and other metals remain in areas that have not been cleaned up. Now, there’s an updated brochure to help you limit exposure and safely enjoy this beautiful environment. It’s called “Guide to Healthy Living in the Silver Valley and CDA Basin.” This reference resource covers:

• • • • • •

Where lead contamination can be found in our area Why lead is a health concern How to reduce exposure What agencies are doing to clean up contamination What you need to know about real estate transactions How to stay informed, including web resources and contacts Find it online at: https://go.usa.gov/x7ars EPA Facebook: www.facebook.com/cdabasin Project web page: www.epa.gov/superfund/bunker-hill

When cattle rancher Herbert D. McAvoy passed away in 1995, his estate created a charitable fund at the Idaho Community Foundation to forever benefit students in Kootenai County. Thanks to the power of endowment, grants from Mr. McAvoy’s fund to terrific organizations like Gizmo CdA have exceeded the amount of his estate gift. His legacy lives on.
