VILLA

6 [CONCEPTUAL PROJECT] YEAR: 2020 BUILDING TYPE: Residential PROGRAMS USED: ArchiCAD, SketchUp, Lumion, Photoshop
TERRAZZA carlo

Inspired by works such as the Farnsworth House with several elements of the Prairie School style, this residence’s basic morphology derives from two intersecting rectangles with one at a higher elevation to allow its overall form to provide more features such as a wide carpark, spacious viewing deck and a second floor for private rooms. The interior features an open plan for much flexibility and an increased sense of spaciousness within the rooms. Lined with steel

and glass, and accented with stone and wood finishes, the material combination makes up the intended absurd and abstract interpretation of a modern and luxurious log cabin. Jalousie windows were also mixed in with other window types to allow the users to make use of natural ventilation to maximize the house’s mountainous location. The house boasts a panoramic city view from most of its rooms - a feature that was given the most weight during planning.

SF HOUSE

[ACTUAL PROJECT]

[FREELANCE WORK]

LOCATION: Santa Fe, Bantayan, Cebu YEAR: 2021

BUILDING TYPE: Residential

PROGRAMS USED: ArchiCAD, SketchUp, Lumion, Photoshop

Its asymmetric facade has a simplistic and fairly neutral appearance accented by stone and wood textures that make up the overall earthly American bungalow aesthetic. A portion of the protruding volume was subtracted to serve multiple functions: to impose the house’s main entrance, to inspire grandeur upon entering, and to cozily shelter the front access from rain and sunlight. A hallway that goes across the house serves as a direct access to the guest rooms at the rear portion, as well as access to the pool without having to enter the main portion of the house. This creates a clear zone between the principal zone and the guest rooms.

HALL-WAVES

[DESIGN EXERCISE]

YEAR: 2021 SCOPE: Arch viz

PROGRAMS USED: SketchUp, Lumion, Photoshop

The curving walls of this resort’s walkway abstractly and inversely mimic receding waves. In another point of view, the walls may also depict upright peaking tidal waves ready to crash into the shore. While either may apply, the hallway’s form nonetheless invokes a sense of satisfaction and calmness, complementing the adjacent spa and dining areas that the hallway leads to.

HOUSE 02

[DESIGN EXERCISE]

YEAR: 2021

SCOPE: Arch viz

PROGRAMS USED: ArchiCAD, SketchUp, Lumion, Photoshop

Framed by concrete overhangs and obliquely protruding walls, the decorative blocks used as a major facade element adds intricacy to the house’s rigid form through the screen-like appearance it creates. These blocks, being recognizable to most Filipinos due to the widespread use of its pattern, is applied to a relatively modern and stiff morphology of a house, generating a blend of familiar with unconventional in this facade design.

TRACERY HALL

[DESIGN EXERCISE]

YEAR: 2022

SCOPE: Arch viz

PROGRAMS USED: SketchUp, Lumion, Photoshop

Neo-gothic meets brutalism in this garden hallway. Viewing the outdoors from the hallway’s inner end shows the observer a semblance of a gothic tracery window, albeit “exploded” and translated into separate three-dimensional elements: the series of pointed arches forming the archivolted window hole, the floor as its sill, and at the distance, trees that are cleverly spaced to make them appear as the “window’s” mullions and traceries.

RED PAVILION

[DESIGN EXERCISE]

YEAR: 2022

SCOPE: Arch viz

PROGRAMS USED: SketchUp, Lumion, Photoshop

Decorative blocks wrap around the top half of this multi-purpose hall. The ribbon of blocks are sandwiched by slabs lined with steel coated only in red primer. Together they rest on white arches, of which the combination of curvatures make it appear that the top volume is floating. The rustic finishes of the building complement the wellness resort it serves; the ultimate aim was to create a functional landmark within the resort that exudes a strong, uplifting, and materially distinct aesthetic.
