OCEANOLOGY 2010 CDL's new low cost FOG technology was the talk of the show at Oceanology 2010. The TOGS (Tiny Optical Gyro System) was present on the stand in surface, subsea and MobiUS mobile battery powered versions. Live demos of both the TOGS and MiniSense2 systems were running on the stand showcasing the latest INS aided magnetic heading algorithm on the MiniSense2 and the brand new 80uG high accuracy accelerometers now being fitted as standard in the entire TOGS range.

PRODUCT RELEASE

MINISENSE 2 COL are pleased to announce the launch of MiniSense2, an ultra small, low power motion sensor based on the latest MEMS technology. MiniSense2 builds on the capabilities of the highly succesful MiniSense product by adding higher accuracy pitch & roll, magnetic heading and a huge upgrade in processing power which allows the new system to operate as a miniature INS (Inertial Navigation System). COL have invested 3 years of development time designing algorithms for TOGS and have designed the MiniSense2 with a common processing platform (based on real time Linux) so that the same firmware can be executed on either product. This allows some exciting new products to be released later this year based on the MiniSense2 platform. This will include GPS aided INS for surface vessels, USBL aided INS for ROVs and low diameter odometer aided mapping solutions for pipeline pigging. All these products will be released at prices far lower than any competitive systems on the market. The magnetic heading option on MiniSense2 is of particular interest for the owners of small ROV systems where magnetic anomalies offen hinder performance. COL have designed an algorithm which mixes the INS data with the magnetic heading data through a Kalman filter in order to provide an optimised heading output which is highly resistant to the short term magnetic effects seen when navigating an ROV close to a large metal structure.
