FACES OF M ISSOURI | THE HEART BEHIND IT ALL

F aces of M issouri Nashville Count r y Singer

ChrisBandi "One of my favorite things at Missouri Magazine is celebrating the people and heart behind so many amazing businesses throughout the state of Missouri. As I type out the interview, I always love reading the inspiration/heart behind their business. From the first time I met Chris Bandi I felt like I have known him my entire life. He is a native from St. Louis, Missouri. His talent and passion for storytelling shines through in all his songs from Would Have Loved Her, Probably at a Bar, to Carolina Blue and so many more. You want to take the time to get know Chris Bandi and the heart behind his music. It is my pleasure to introduce to you one of Nashville?s Artist to watch, Country Singer Chris Bandi." -Cheri Cranford, Founder & CEO of CDM Media Group, LLC.

" I t waswhenI startedtellingmy story I felt I hadthemost successwithmy songs."

M issou r i M agazin e: Tell us about yourself. We would love to get to know you and I know our readers would love to hear about your journey to Nashville and becoming an artist in country

music. Tell us about growing up in St. Louis?

Ch r is Ban di: My name is Chris Bandi, I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, before moving to Oxford, Mississippi for college! I grew up with two parents that loved music. My dad was a big fan of '90s pop and early rock and my mom listened exclusively to ?90s country. My playlist always depended on who took me to school that morning! In High School I played in a band that played all over the St. Louis area competing in quite a few battles of the bands, that was my first taste of the stage, and I knew it?s really the only thing I wanted to do. I moved away for college and started playing in bars around the area. It got to a point where I was playing every night except Sunday? they didn?t serve alcohol in Oxford on Sundays. My mom and dad were big believers in me and my music but said I needed to graduate college before I went to chase my dreams, so 5 days after graduation I made the move to Nashville! M issou r i M agazin e: Looking Back, when did you first start singing? Ch r is Ban di: I?ve been singing as long as I can remember! I would sing Elvis??Hound Dog? in the living room

surrounded by my family when I was maybe 3 or 4 years old! It?s something that I always loved and knew it was what I wanted to do when I ?grew up.? M issou r i M agazin e: What led you to writing and singing? Ch r is Ban di: I started writing songs when I was in High School. I was in a band, and we played all over St. Louis, I felt like writing was a bit therapeutic and as an angsty high schooler, I guess I had a lot to write about haha! M issou r i M agazin e: What is the most important thing you want people to know about you? Ch r is Ban di: I think what I want people to know about me and my music is how honest it is. When I first moved to town some of the greatest advice, I got was to write about things I know about. When I moved to town ?Cruise? was the biggest song in the

world. I loved that song, but it wasn?t necessarily MY life. It was when I started telling MY story is when I felt I had the most success with my songs. M issou r i M agazin e: Tell us about being a mentor for United Way of Central Georgia their event 478 sings United?

"Alwaysbetrueto yourself, writeyour truthandstuff that you knowabout. Don't compareyourself to anyoneelse."

Ch r is Ban di: It was great, I got to hope on a zoom call with an artist from Georgia and talk about music and some of his dreams! I don?t know if I would call myself a mentor, but I did try to tell him some things I wish I would have known when I first started playing music and decided to make the move to Nashville! M issou r i M agazin e: Who has been the biggest influence on your life? Ch r is Ban di: I?d have to say my family as a whole. Their belief in me is really what keeps me going. I have such a strong support system behind me. I couldn?t be more thankful for them. M issou r i M agazin e: What are the most important lessons you have learned so far being in the music industry? Ch r is Ban di: There are a couple that I always find myself going back to! 1. Always be true to yourself, write YOUR truth and stuff that you know about! 2. Don?t compare yourself to anyone else. Someone once told me that the music industry is very hard for ?problem solvers? because they are always trying to use formulas to equate success. There?s no ONE way to make it in music and if you try to compare your

this is a very tough industry. A lot of people move to Nashville with a dream to write or play music. There were a group of people that I met when I first moved to town that gave it a year and then moved back home. I?m glad I kept my head down and stuck with it! M issou r i M agazin e: What music artist influenced you the most in the music industry? successes to other ?s successes, you?ll drive yourself crazy! M issou r i M agazin e: Do you come back to visit Missouri often. What do you miss about Missouri? What do you like about living in TN? Ch r is Ban di: Not as often as I would like but I do get to come home for holidays and stuff like that! I miss Cardinals games, and Blues games and the food in St. Louis. Every time I get home, I make sure I grab an Imo?s pizza! I love the family atmosphere in Nashville. Everyone wants your success as much as you do which is a great feeling! I also love that we?re only about 5 hours from the beach and about 3 from the mountains. There?s always something to do! M issou r i M agazin e: What are you proudest of? Ch r is Ban di: Honestly, I think I am the proudest of the fact that I?m still here, making music and making a living doing it. There are so many milestones that I can write about, but

Ch r is Ban di: There are quite a few! I grew up listening to everything from Bruce Springsteen to Prince to Garth Brooks to Nelly. But more recently I would have to say Eric Church. When I was in college, I got to see Eric play quite a few times. The first time he came to Oxford, Mississippi, where I went to school, there were maybe 250 people in the crowd. The next time he came, maybe 500. Then eventually he would sell the place out. I remember thinking, ?this isn?t the same country music my mom was listening to. I can relate to the stuff he is writing.? I think that was when I made my mind up that I was going to

"CauseI bet youwould'velovedher" move to Nashville after I graduated! M issou r i M agazin e: Tell us about your song, ?Would Have Loved Her ?.Tell us what inspired you to write this song. Ch r is Ban di: I try to keep my phone on me at all times in case an idea pops in my head. I had this title in my phone for a long time. I was thinking about my grandpa who passed away about six months before I met my girlfriend. I knew that if he had been around and would have gotten the chance to meet her that he would have loved her! I brought that title into a write with my friend Zach Kale, and he told me that his father passed away before her met his wife. We both knew that we had to write that song that day. M issou r i M agazin e: Chris Bandi just released a brand-new song "Carolina Blue," written by Bandi along with Matt Willis and Jason Massey, the nostalgic tune is available across all platforms. Ch r is Ban di: 'Carolina Blue' was one of the first writes that we did over zoom after the world shut down," shares Bandi. "There are very few things in life that can take you back to a certain place or time. It could be a song that brings you

back to 18 hanging out with your best friends or a white Jeep that reminds you of an ex. This song is about seeing that certain shade of blue that always brings back the memory of a flame that burnt out too soon." M issou r i M agazin e: Where can our listeners listen to your music? Ch r is Ban di: Anywhere they stream or buy music! Just search ?Chris Bandi? For more information about Chris Bandi and upcoming shows visit his website at: www.chrisbandi.com

By Bennet Bodenstein

There?s a new sheriff in town; no, make that a new winery. The name is Knotty Vines and their object is to offer the consumer the best possible wine quality at an affordable price; a task at which they have more than succeeded. By careful selecting of the grapes, the Knotty Vines vintners produce wines that are well above the quality that their price tag might indicate. I know that I may have gotten a bit excited about these wines but when I find a value I like to scream value. Kn ot t y Vin es 2018 Caber n et Sau vign on ($14.99).Before even tasting this wine I was impressed with the way it was presented. Honoring the ancient tradition, the wine is presented in the classical cabernet sauvignon style bottle with the sides of the bottle gently sloping from wide at the top and thinner at the bottom. I know that the bottle doesn't indicate the quality of what is inside it but it is good to see that the Knotty Vines vintners are thoughtful enough to conform to tradition and that to me, is a plus. The next plus came when I sampled the wine; affordable or not, this wine showed me everything that a good cab should be like. The aroma was pure cab, blackberries, plum, cocoa, and oak.The flavor shows the traditional cassis and is backed up by cherry, raspberry and chocolate which carry on to the luscious finish. I believe that if you removed the label and

TheWineSearcher: I ntroducingKnotty Wines served the wine to a wine aficionado, it could pass for a wine that should command a much higher price. Plain and simple, I liked it and I am sure you will too. Kn ot t y Vin es 2018 Ch ar don n ay ($14.99). This wine, for a modern affordable California, makes a very loud statement. Here again I am impressed by the quality of this wine. Let me start: The wine is a chardonnay that boldly presents its attributes and definitely not one of those wimpy chards we encounter all too often today and has enrolled many new members into the ABC (Anything But Chardonnay) club. This wine proves that an affordable chardonnay can be made without losing everything that we seek in a chardonnay. This chardonnay is heavy with the aroma of apple, apricot. pineapple, along with notes of spice in the background. These fruit aromas carry over to the taste and then on to the finish where it ends in that special mouth feel that is the trademark of a better Chardonnay. Kn ot t y Vin es 2018 Pin ot Noir ($14.99). I saved this for last because it was the one that troubled me the most; the wine was very light in color. While Pinot Noir wines are normally a bit lighter in color than the other reds this one looked more like a dark rosé. It is not uncommon for pinot noir makers to add skins from a previous vintage or even the skins of other varieties to darken their wine. It appears that pinot noir wine lovers like their wines dark. The Knotty Vines 2018 Pinot Noir may not pass the color code but it is really and truly a pinot noir, and a very nice one at that. The wine opens with the traditional black cherry augmented by a very obvious aroma of pomegranate with vanilla and a suggestion of oak. The flavor reprises the aroma with the addition of plum, vanilla and just the right amount of oak. The finish is fresh and alive with summer dark berries and lasts for a very long time. This is a really interesting wine. I will be truthful, I approached this wine with the idea that it was some poor, weak imitation of a fine wine that I would not bother to write about because print space is too valuable to waste on junk. I must admit that I liked the wine and I was amazed that such quality would sell for such an affordable price. Forget the color, try this wine.
