Event Overview Ride the Dragon The inaugural Hong Kong Moodle Moot 2012 was held at the Canadian International School of Hong Kong, on 20-21 September 2012, with over 120 attendees from around South East Asia and the Pacific.

Keynote Speakers Iain’s work life has centered on teaching and technologies (not necessarily at the same time). Since early 2004 Iain has been fortunate enough to be in positions Director of the Learning Technology Unit, Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, The University of Auckland and Director of the eLearning Pedagogical Support Unit, Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning, The University of Hong Kong - that have combined these two aspects of his career. Iain is currently responsible for leading the implementation of The University of Hong Kong's eLearning Strategy. This means that Iain is proactive in operational leadership, operational management, managing change, designing and Dr Iain Doherty

developing professional learning opportunities for academic staff and in working collaboratively to develop a supportive eLearning community at The University of Hong Kong.

Martin is best known as the founder of Moodle, the popular free course management system used by millions of teachers around the world. As the executive director of Moodle Pty Ltd in Perth, Western Australia, he leads the team of software developers at the heart of the Moodle project and the global network of 54 Moodle Partner service companies that help provide funding for this independent open source software project. Martin has a mixed academic background with post-graduate degrees in Computer Science and Education, and continues to focus on researching how educators approach internet-based education. His major goal for the future is to improve the quality of education by encouraging social constructionist and Dr Martin Dougiamas

Conference Report

Plenty of opportunities for informal networking were built into the program

Conference Venue Recognized as Hong Kong's Leading International School by the Hong Kong Business magazine's High Flyers campaign for four years, the Canadian International School of Hong Kong (CDNIS) is a non-profit school that provides a "throughtrain" education to students from Pre Reception (3 year olds) through to Grade 12 graduation. The school currently has just over 1800 students representing over 40 nationalities. Also considered as one of the leading schools in South East Asia, CDNIS is an IB World School fully authorized to deliver the International Baccalaureate's Diploma, Middle Years and Primary Years Programmes. The school is also authorized to grant credits toward completion of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), thus providing a "dual passport" for graduates to gain entry into top universities throughout the world. CDNIS is located on the south side of Hong Kong Island in Aberdeen overlooking the spectacular backdrop of the Lamma Channel and surrounding islands. Students are nurtured, inspired and challenged in an award-winning designed campus with superb facilities, including the spectacular 606-seat Leo Lee Arts Centre, which opened in May 2008.

The various sessions. I was able to learn a lot from the sessions and can take them back to my school and implement elements. Student panel session was very good. We can know more about their views of using Moodle. Targeted workshops. Great sessions geared towards teaching & learning. Attending the stream sessions and listening to Martin Dougiamas. Learning new approaches to using Moodle and speaking to other users/educators. The Moodle Master Class beforehand. Meeting and talking with others. Having time to talk to other IT Facilitiators, seeing/hearing from techno-innovators. The sharing of ideas by teachers from around the globe. Learning new things with very good presenters, networking with others that use Moodle. Seeing how others are using Moodle in the classroom. get away to the Moot, especially if we are from out of town. This Moot could easily have been a weekend event. Thanks for organising. I'd love to come again. Too much down time. More workshops dealing with Moodle usage in specific curricular areas would be very useful. Please focus more on workshops and practical applications. Less on theory. It was great! I really enjoyed the event. Thank you for putting it on. More sharing from the Higher Education sector. Venue a bit difficult to access Excellent start. I would recommend this to any of our staff who are interested in learning more about Moodle. The time for each sessions is too short. Very well organized! The internet was really bad! I wanted to attend more than one session strand at times and it would have been great if you could run a session towards the end of the conference where people could vote for a repeat of one of the ones they missed.
