TRAINING FOR BUKLOD TAO PARALEGALS COMMENCED
PARALAGEGALS-IN-THE-MAKING: Members of Buklod Tao were given training on paralegal at the Institute of Social Order at the Ateneo De Manila University by Saligan.
Three weeks after the project inception of Banaba Disaster Risk Reduction Project on 31 Agust 2010, Sentro ng Alternatibong Lingap Panligal (Saligan), in partnership with Center for Disaster Preparedness (CDP) and Buklod Tao, with support from Christian Aid, conducted the First Module of the Paralegal Advocacy Training. From the 22nd to the 24th of September, 25 Buklod Tao participants and two members from the CDP attended the Module on Urban Governance held at the Insitute for Social Order, Ateneo de Manila University. Atty. Arnie de Vera spear-
headed Saligan in this training with the able support of other lawyers like Attys. Mai Taqueban, Jing Gaddi, Aison Garcia, and Tin Sevilla, including Saligan Program Officer, Lizel Mones. Topics of first module on Urban Governance consisted of Law & the Legal System, Paralegalism, Housing Rights and Human Rights, Land Classification, Ownership, Land Titles, Possesssion & Ejectment, Constitutional Basis of UDHA, Basic principles in Local Governance, People’s participation in Local Governance, and Local Legislation. Ordinance Drafting Workshop capped the afternoon of the 3rd day of the first module.
After a six-day respite, the same participants from Buklod Tao convened together yet again in a two-day training, Module II,at the Institute of Social Order, from October 5 to 6. The same teaching staff of Saligan provided inputs to the participants in the areas of : Gender concepts, Women’s Rights are Human Rights, Laws relating to Women, Comparison of Civil and Criminal Laws, Criminal Procedure, Evidence, Legal Interview and Affidavit Making . Furthermore, Saligan’s Module III for the same Buklod Tao Paralegals was held on November 9-11 at the Institute for Social Order, ADMU.
