Collins Plumbing Family business serving northeast Oklahoma since 1969
Collins Plumbing Co. has a long history in Claremore. Started in 1969 by Billy Collins, today the business is owned by his son, Grayson. “I started working for dad in junior high during the summers,” Grayson said. “I bought the company from him in 2000.” Today, Collins Plumbing employs around 16 people, including two brothers of Grayson’s and three nephews. “We’ve got qualified, licensed employees and on most projects, we have a family member on the job,” he said.
The growing business continues to meet and exceed customers’ expectations. The number of repeat customers exemplifies that work ethic. “We’re actually still working for a lot of people that we have been working for since before I was born,” Grayson said. “That’s because we work hard to maintain the trust of those customers who have used us from day one.” Collins Plumbing serves residential, commercial and industrial customers throughout northeast Oklahoma. “We do a lot of design work,”
Grayson said. “We’re involved in a lot of projects from the planning stage on. It’s something that sets us apart from other companies.” The business is widely diversified. “We have a fabrication facility where we fabricate plumbing components for other companies,” he said. “We’re also one of very few companies that’s med gas certified, meaning we do medical and industrial plumbing. That’s kind of our specialty.” For more information about Collins Plumbing, call (918) 3416089.

David Merriman State Farm Agent True or False? Test Your Coverage IQ
Only 45 percent of Americans feel confident enough to make insurance decisions, according to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Where do you stand? There’s no time like the present to enhance your insurance literacy. The more you know, the better able you are to protect yourself, your family and your largest investments. Test your knowledge and learn more with this short quiz: TRUE OR FALSE? 1) Your homeowners coverage should equal the estimated replacement cost of your home, not the purchase price 2) Your homeowners insurance policy covers flood damage. 3) A solution for people who want extra levels of liability insurance protection above the limits provided by their Auto and Homeowners Policies is called an Overflow Policy.
4) Your address may impact your auto insurance rate. 5) Your life insurance policy should cover 10 times your yearly income. ANSWERS 1. True. It’s up to you to choose the coverages and limits that meet your needs, but it’s best to insure your home for at least 100 percent of its estimated replacement cost -the cost of repairing or replacing your home to restore its original condition. Estimated replacement cost is different from market value or purchase price. If you select a coverage amount lower than the estimated replacement cost, certain coverages may be unavailable to you. Periodically review your coverages and limits with your agent and notify your agent of any changes or additions to your home. 2. False. Homeowners policies typically exclude flood coverage. Adding coverage may be worth looking into, no matter where you live. According to the
National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), more than 20 percent of all flood claims happen in moderate- to low-risk areas. State Farm agents enrolled in the NFIP Direct Program are able to write and service flood insurance coverage for qualifying homes directly through the federal government program, NFIP Direct. 3. False. A Personal Liability Umbrella Policy layers on top of your existing underlying policies to provide extra protection when home and auto liability limits are exhausted. Your agent can help explain how a Personal Liability Umbrella can help ensure that your family and financial health are protected in the event of an accident or lawsuit. 4. True. People who live in densely populated areas-noted for higher occurrences of accidents and theft-will likely pay more for auto insurance than those who live in rural areas, where accidents and theft are less prevalent. Other factors that may influence the cost of auto insur-
ance: Vehicle type, coverage, and driving record. 5. False. There is no “one-size-fits-all” formula for selecting life insurance coverage-it’s a personal matter. The State Farm Life Insurance Calculator can estimate the amount of coverage you may need to help protect your family. Want to know more? Enhance your knowledge of insurance by talking to your State Farm agent. Establishing an open dialogue with your State Farm agent is the best way to answer any questions you may have. Because insurance protection is a contract, any coverage descriptions in this article are general only and are not statements of contract. Rogers County Builders Association
The Rogers County Builders Association endorses high standards, ethics, professionalism and excellence in the conduct of businesses. Originally chartered in 1970, the Rogers County Builders Association is a non-profit, professional organization sanctioned and affiliated with the National Association of Home Builders and the Oklahoma State Home Builders Association. RCBA represents and promotes the local building industry through the opening of new developments and building of new homes in Rogers County. Members meet once a month for lunch to network and learn about programs and issues affecting the
building industry, such as new storm water regulations, said Executive Officer Laurel DeLammermore. Many RCBA professionals are homebuilders and/or remodelers, and can offer advice to residents who are wanting to purchase a new home or planning to renovate their present home. Others are suppliers of products and services used within the home building industry. In addition to opening new developments and building homes, RCBA members benefit local charities and agencies such as United Way, Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, Project CEEP and scholarship endowments at RSU.
RCBA’s yearly events include The Rogers County Home and Garden Farm and Ranch Show in March, and the golf tournament and cookout at Heritage Hills. Officers are Robbie Nees, president; Randy Highfill, vice president; Chris Burdan, secretary and jeff Howell, treasurer. Other board members are Brett Knapp, past president; Paul Pixley, Michael Self, Jimmy Holmes, Karen Ogle, Don Hutchinson and Ron Griggs. The Rogers County Builder’s Association office is located at 104 N. Cherokee Street. For more information, call 918-343-1911 or visit rcbaclaremore.com.

Stillwater Milling Since 1978, Stillwater Milling in Claremore has done business the oldfashioned way — “the farmer’s way” — treating people fairly, with respect and being true to their word. Just ask Alan Schroeder. “We started out as a feed business, but slowly evolved into a complete farming supply business, with some home, gardening, pet, and clothing supplies,” said Schroeder, store manager. “Our approach to our customers is the Stillwater Milling employees same now as it was the first day we Tolkein Teague (from left) opened our doors — to be fair, to be and Rose Comptom are honest, and to always do whatever we happy to answer customer’s can to take care of them. questions and assist them “That’s just how we do business, how with their needs. anniversary of operations,” he said. “We didn’t have any kind of party or big commemoration. It was pretty much just business as usual.” And at Stillwater Milling, “business as usual” remains attention to detail, a large selection of products, and quality customer service. Whether you have one acre or 1,000 acres, Stillwater Milling offers a secondto-none selection of products and variety. “Anything a person would need for their farm, acreage, anything they’d need to work the land, animals, or livestock, we’ve got,” he said. “Really, much of our day is spent just answering questions, which we don’t mind at all. Most of our staff has their own personal experience they can draw from when they’re talking to a customer who comes in, uncertain about a situa-
tion involving their farm or animals or even their garden.” Small “do-it-yourself” gardens is something which Schroeder said has been a rising trend in recent years. Schroeder said he’s also seen an increase in recent years in non-farmers wanting to keep their own chickens, but Stillwater Milling carries whatever its customers need to care for animals of any size, with specialty feed and medicines, as well as sturdy agriculture fencing, gates, feeders, waterers, and more to keep your pets or livestock healthy and happy. T hrough the years however, Schroeder said the company has retained its “laid back” feel, confident it can help everyone who come through its doors, and working from a long-earned position of customer trust. Pixley Lumber Pixley Lumber Company celebrates 50th anniversary
This year marks Pixley Lumber Company’s 50th year in business in Claremore. The exact date the doors were opened is unknown and it probably was not done with any fanfare, Warren Pixley began the business in an old, abandoned lumber yard located on the southeast corner of Fifth Street and Missouri Avenue. A portion of the old structure still exists, now occupied by Heather’s Dance School. Pixley always worked with a great intensity and one can only imagine the early pace of getting the old facility in shape to open. He and his family were living in Oklahoma City at the time and he recently had resigned from a 15-year employment with Long-Bell Lumber Company. The location he chose in Claremore previously was a Long-Bell store. For the fist five months of the business Pixley rented a sleeping room two blocks from work at the Hotel Will Rogers, “on the floor just below the Oklahoma Military Academy’s football team,” he always said.
After enduring his first winter in business he moved his family to Claremore on March 27, 1964. Pixley quickly began making his mark in the community, encouraging land developers to create new housing additions and assisting contractors to build speculative homes in Claremore. Within four years he was elected as President of the Claremore Chamber of Commerce and soon began serving as a Director of Rogers County Bank. Pixley Lumber Company moved from its first location in the fall of 1971. A new 18,000 square foot building was constructed on property leased from the Frisco Railroad at 715 W. Will Rogers Blvd. New warehouses were added in phases during the next eight years and a major remodeling project of the store was completed in 1981. A wood millwork manufacturing and door unit assembly facility was completed in 1984. Other remodeling upgrades have continued through current times. Family members always
have had direct involvement in the operation of the company. Currently, there are five family members in the business, representing second and third generations. Operation of the company was passed to Warren Pixley’s son, Paul, in 1988.
Warren’s involvement with the company continued almost until the time of his death in 2003. Pixley Lumber Company serves a customer base in northeast Oklahoma. It provides framing lumber, roofing, wallboard,
entry doors and interior doors, moldings and millwork, and floor coverings to professional commercial and residential builders as well as “do-it-yourselfers.” The company and the Pixley Family are proud to call Claremore its home.
