Not only that, according Atrium Cinema’s ‘Releasing this Eid’ list, The Bourne Legacy of famous American spy ‘Bourne series’ is also getting a space in cinema this Eid. Despite the fact that government might ban the screening of foreign films on three Eid days, it is quite expected that these foreign films will give the local ones a real run for money once the Eid days are over. Let’s remember again what happened last year, if comparison is to be done, the last year’s local films on Eid were way stronger than the ones releasing this time. They included Reema Khan’s high budgeted, high quality and well marketed Urdu film Love Mein Gum, Syed Faisal Bukhari’s action-thriller Bhai Log and Syed Noor’s Punjabi film Jugni. Three of them combined, couldn’t face the competition given by Salman Khan Starrer Body Guard, which really put a great cut in the box office numbers of these films. Comparative to what our filmmakers have for us this year, the above mentioned local films did not only enjoy a countrywide appeal– (two of them being in national language)– but were also marketed heavily in almost all mediums. They might have performed well, had they been released in a different time frame. Secondly, it is now clear that Shaan just has a cameo role in Ishq Khuda, while core of the
film actually revolves around the Love triangle between Ahsan Khan, Meera and Emirati actor Wiam Dahmani. This actually means that fans may get second thoughts while deciding whether to watch the film or not. For such people, Shaan and Saima starrer Shareeka might not be a bad choice. Ek Tha Tiger is already expected to become India’s highest grossing film, whereas, The Dark Knight Rises has already created enough headlines to get people in hordes once the film is released. God knows how our films are going to survive or at least recover their cost in such a hostile environment. Even if the government stops foreign films to be screened on this Eid, our films are already pretty much facing towards a pitfall. The best scenario for Shehzad Rafique or Syed Noor or any director as the matter of fact in such a case could be to back out from the ‘Eid Release’ idea and release the film with a delay of say 15 or 20 days, so that these mammoth looking foreign films are at their lowest strength when the local ones could give them a final kick and enjoy a much favorable time in cinemas. In the meanwhile, heavy marketing should be done through all possible means, so that when the time comes, people are not confused over the choice of these films over others. Decisions are to be taken by those who have all the power regarding their film, but these are some of the facts that cannot just be ignored. If still some director takes the chance of releasing his film in such a scenario, we would just term it as a brave call. Just to leave you with a last thought, here is an interesting fact. Shehzad Rafique’s Ishq Khuda and Salman Khan starrer Ek Tha Tiger both have the same distribution partner in Pakistan–IMGC Global Entertainment– so if both the films come face to face in cinemas this Eid, it would be really interesting to see how they perform against each other
Update: According to the latest post by Ishq Khuda’s official Facebook page, the movie is not releasing on Eid-Ul-Fitr this year anymore and will release on Eid-Ul-Adha instead.

After the partition Pakistani film industry faced a number of problems but after some time the industry stood up on its own feets. Industry reached to a high level due to the hard work of many of the artists of that time. The golden period of Pakistani film industry started in 60′s. Actors like Waheed Murad, Zeba, Shabnam, Nadeem, Muhammad Ali and many others proved themselves through remarkable actings. Not only actors but directors, singers and writers also did outstanding work which is memorable. After a long phase of success the film industry gradually decline in 90′s as many old and favorite actors leave the industry and new were too young to took their places. Directors like Syed Noor and Javed Sheikh tried to push the industry up but failed as majority of movies of that time were flopped. A number of movies released which were not family movies as these movies contain such contents which were far away from our Cultural and Moral values. I think the basic reason of the downfall of Pakistani film industry is not the lack of talent but the major reason is the farness from our culture also the industry was ill-treated by the government in previous years. The bad story line and lack of good film making equipment force a number of artists to leave the film industry, some of them also move to neighbor country to show their acting skills. This is really a serious issue and need consideration by the seniors in the industry. In my opinion, the basic needs for the revival of our film industry are as follows; 1. Investment to increase the number of movies per annum and also to upgrade the standard of movies. It could be risky but a very bold step for the rejuvenation of industry. 2. Payment of good amount to the artists, so that they avoid serving other countries and show their skills in front of their own cameras. 3. Good storyline which should raise social and economic issues of our country. 4. Movies must show our cultural and moral aspects, so that people could move toward cinemas with their families without hesitation. 5. Good equipment must have to be introduced to improve standard of movies. 6. There must be a good promotion of the movies so that people wait eagerly for new movies. 7. People should have to go to the cinemas and promote the work of their artists. They have the right to criticize for the betterment. 8. Producers and Directors of the movies must have to remove vulgarity and in this way they can also show a good piece of work like movies from other Muslim countries. Now a days, many young people are entering and investing in Lollywood with new and interesting movies like Waar, Kolachi, The Dusk and Fatima after a huge success of Khuda Kay Liye and Bol by Shoaib Mansoor. 13th August: Blackout Plan by Cable Operators and Media Owners against SC’s Action against ‘Obscenity’ and ‘Illegal Indian Channels’ Pakistan Top Stories — 08 August 2012 Karachi, Pakistan, August 8, 2012 – An ‘Iftaar’ meeting of cable operators association held in Karachi on August 7, 2012, it was decided to counter Supreme courts recent actions against obscenity and illegal Indian channels being showed on Cable networks around the country. A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice Jawad S. Khawaja and Justice Tariq Pervez had taken up a petition of former Jamaati-Islami Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmed and a letter by Justice (retd) Wajhiuddin Ahmed to the chief justice on which a notice had been issued to the Pemra chairman. After the meeting, Cable association members talked to Media owners who were also invited in this meeting, to completely Black out the verdict of Supreme Court which is expected to be against un-checked obscenity and banning of illegal channels.
PEMRA is also in picture here since very strong reactions were noted in the court proceedings on Monday, when the Supreme Court was surprised to note that Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) stated that the government had neither a policy to monitor TV programs, especially of foreign channels, nor it had a clear definition of obscenity. Pemra’s acting chairman Abdul Jabbar was of the opinion that obscenity or vulgarity was a relative term because a program might appear to be vulgar to some people but not offensive to others. But the court corrected him by citing Section 20c of the Pemra Ordinance and Code of Conduct for Media Broadcasters and Cable Operators which prohibits airing of obscene, pornographic or any program injurious to public morality and against basic cultural norms and values. Abdul Jabbar again failed to satisfy the court when asked to provide a list of cases where Pemra action had been stayed by courts. He only said that an appeal was pending in a court against a private channel. The court asked him to categories programs with proper ratings as were done in the West so that people should know what they were watching. Jabbar sought a month’s time to research the matter. Rejecting the request for more time, the bench ruled that it is not yet forming a commission, but only granting a week’s time to the regulatory authority. However, a plan was devised in today’s meeting by Cable network association to Black out the coverage of this case on the electronic media on August 13, 2012 when one week deadline expires, as a strategy no talk shows will be allowed, no news coverage will be given to this verdict and 14th August packages will be used as an excuse for missing out the major development expected in this case. This will be done in order to protect their vested and monitory interests that are asymmetrically weakening the moral and social coherence of society. It is imperative that honest media personnel, News Anchors, Columnists and Writers should stand against this conspiracy against Pakistan’s society that has already suffered and devastated due to immorality that is plagued by obscenity that has even forced west to take per-emptive measures; though it is already too late for them to control the amount of immorality, molestation, rapes and other ills that result due to obscenity. We in Pakistan, have only started to bear the consequences on many fronts due to these vulgar productions in the name of entertainment. It is for the people of Pakistan to see if these anchor persons, and Journalists do? Will they succumb to the pressure of their owner and prove disloyal to their profession? Or will the stand up and expose the nexus of evil that is hell bent to destroy the core foundations of our society and faith.
