A Conversation with WIAM DAHMANI Interview Conducted by
Wiam Dahmani on Pakistan, her love for films and much more.. Posted by Aayan Mirza on April 19, 2012 in Article News (Galaxy Lollywood) Finding a lead actress for his upcoming Sufi-drama film Ishq Khuda has been a great headache for director Shehzad Rafique. Since the pre-production stage of the movie, we have only heard about actresses joining the project and then leaving it on midway for their personal and professional reasons. Finally with the ‘film hitting its sets’ earlier this month, the director Shehzad Rafique sort out the big actress issue by signing the sizzling Arabian actress ‘Wiam Dahmani’. Replacing Zara Sheikh; who by the way left project citing her mother’s illness as the reason, Wiam Dahmani is not only in Pakistan these days to get her work recorded but has also quickly developed a unique love for the country and especially its food. In a recent chit-chat with Galaxy Lollywood, the charming actress talked about ‘Pakistan, her love for films and much more’. But before moving onto the interview, let me tell you one thing, Wiam not only has a little bit command on Urdu but has also kept a great eye on the issues related to Pakistani film industry. Q: So Wiam, let me start by asking you about the treatment you are getting these days in Pakistan. We know you are currently in some ‘Wadi’ for the shooting, tell me more about this Wadi and how’s your experience overall there?
Well, Pakistan Zabardast!! (Laughs), everything is nice and we are shooting in this beautiful village named ‘Waadi-e-Soon’, I am enjoying how cooperative, how comforting everyone is here. Besides shooting I am actually trying to consume the environment here, being friendly with people and it’s all helping me out in portraying my character. So my experience here has been really good so far.
you are perfect for this role. So once I was convinced, I never looked back. Q: Tell us what actually your role is in the film, would we be also seeing you performing on some romantic song in the film, because songs are integral part of Pakistani films and one thing is sure that with an amazing music team that Shehzad has on board, the music is going to be a blast. So should we expect something really special? Haan.. Haan bilkul, you see music; especially in Lollywood and Bollywood stands for almost 60% success of the film. One thing that I recently discovered about Shehzad is that he is a huge music fan himself, we have got quite big names in the film, Rahat is there, and Shazia Manzoor has few songs in the movie too. I am actually performing on one of Rahat’s songs, so hopefully it will be a good treat for fans.
Q: Moving on to the real reason you are these days in Pakistan. We mainly know you as a singer mostly and that too because of your recent association with Pakistani band ‘Suroor’. How did you actually end up About the role, I am actually playing a full modern signing Ishq Khuda. How Shehzad (director) convinced Punjabi girl named Kulsoom, it’s been you? quite an interesting experience for me, also in the sense that it is the first time I It’s always about the script, your co- am playing the role of some Punjabi girl. stars and the team you are going to ‘Meera ji’ is in the film, Ahsan Khan is work with. When Shehzad approached here and then of course the superstar me he said and he still says this Shaan, so it’s all amazing being one sometimes during the shooting that amongst all of them. ‘Oh my God’, you are so into Kulsoom”—‘Kulsoom’ is the name of Q: Ishq Khuda must be an important project for you my character in the movie by the way’—and he was like also in the sense that you are making your film debut
through it. How enjoyable and different you found film Well it wasn’t really difficult for me also because I am a from singing or hosting shows or even doing television movie loving person, I am so crazy about movies that I serials? have watched all kind of films, Filipino, Italian, French, English, Urdu, Tamil and literally in Well acting is acting and it becomes more difficult when every language, I have even seen it’s a film. Professionally speaking, I am no strange to the Salakhain, Muhabbatan Sachiyan 35 mm cinematic camera because I and twenty to forty other Pakistani already shot two of my music videos films from industry’s ‘golden age’, on the same scale with Indian because you know when an artist directors. So it’s not something weird is indirectly in touch with a for me but ‘Bilkul’ it is different when particular culture; be it through you are doing a feature film, a film is always huge when watching films or anything, he or she gets to learn many it comes to the work level but MashaAllah ‘Shehzad things. Just take the ‘Misaal’ (Example) of small facial sahib’ is such a professional director that his support expression for word ‘Yes’, it would be different in made it all very easy. Pakistani films, completely different in Hollywood films and so on. So films in a sense teach you many things and Q: Shehzad Rafique is known for his quality work in the that’s been the reason it didn’t create much of a film industry, how is your experience so far working problem for me. with him? There are many actors working in Bollywood who know As a director I see nothing about Urdu or Hindi but still they are hit and him bilkul doing some really good work there, Katrina Kaif is one of perfectionist. He them and also the Canadian girl in Mahesh Bhatt’s just doesn’t take recently released film Blood Money, so it isn’t a big deal a shot and moves and at the end you have the best solution ‘dubbing’ on until and (laughs), so no big deal. unless it’s the one that he had Q: From whatever you talked it can easily be derived already perceived that you have done your study on Pakistan film in mind. He Industry. It must have been in your knowledge that the keeps watching industry is in its bad patch and good films aren’t really the scene being produced as often as in India or Iran or any other millions of times and he is not like, ‘Ok, let’s skip to next established industry. How you see yourself making a shot’, No! He makes sure that whatever he has captured debut in such an environment. is the best he could get. And also he is always guiding about the scenes, movements and all. For example if I Let me tell you one thing, I did a lot am doing a romantic shot, so he says ‘Ok you remember of research on Pakistani industry that scene from that particular movie’ and it always before coming here. And I said ‘haan Kyun Naheen’? If my co-star will be a good actor if the script would be good, then of course yes!

Mud Volcano In Pakistan there are more than 80 active mud volcanoes, all of them in Baluchistan province; there are about 10 locations having clusters of mud volcanoes. In this region, the heights of mud volcanoes range between 800 to 1,550 feet (243.8 to 472.4 m). The most famous is Chandaragup. The biggest crater found at 25째33'13.63"N. 65째44'09.66"E is about 450 feet (137.16 m) in diameter. Most mud volcanoes in this region are situated in out-ofreach areas having very difficult terrain. Dormant mud volcanoes stand like columns of mud in many other areas. These volcanoes keep the region save from any huge disaster. In Azerbaijan these mud volcanoes are million dollar tourist attraction but sadly we Pakistanis don't even have knowledge about these volcanoes! Designed by Sir Alexander Meadows Rendel, the girder work weighing a massive 3,300 tons was erected by F.E. Robertson, and Hecquet. Director: Mikael Håfström Writers: Michael Petroni, Matt Baglio (book) (suggestion) Stars: Colin O'Donoghue, Anthony Hopkins and Ciarán Hinds Genre: Horror Drama
While watch list of titles of my favorite artists I saw this title. What the poster and trailor expresses about its synopsis it can be seen in the film. It’s a story about a famous priest who did more than 2000 successful exorcism in his life and still working on this mission. How he come to this line and when did he recognized that what is aim of his life? it is portrayed in this film. While watching in a silent environment I had glimpse of Exorcist (classic series) and exorcism in my mind. The film is equipped with strong dialogues which Hopkins made it extraordinary with unforgettable expressions as he did it in “Silence of Lamb” series and that’s his specialty.
I was stunned at few shots and while watching this film if your room is equipped with home theatre then 5.1 DTS will surround from walls to your heart and will freeze you on your sittings. The film is special for Hopkins’s lovers and for those who are dis-hearted from traditional Hollywood films based on exorcism. No doubt the film is good but unfortunately it got 5.9 rating on IMDB.
Director: Wilson Yip Writer: Edmond Wong (screenplay) Stars: Donnie Yen, Simon Yam and Siu-Wong Fan Genre: Martial Art Action
After watching “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon” my heart was in continuous search for another big big China’s master piece. Even I was not much happy with “House of flying Daggers”, “Kungfu Hustle” and “Hero”. When I was watching Hero, Shanghai Knights and Seven Swards I was excited to find another star “Donie Yen” in IP MAN after “Chaw Yun Fat” in “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon”. IP MAN has two parts. IP MAN is about a master of martial art who taught true art to China to protect themselves for their dignity and self-identity. He was a very patriotic citizen who fights against Japanese army and martial art fighters. He was also mentor of a great Martial Art Artist “Bruce Lee”.
IP MAN has patriotic message. That inspired me too much. The film has a good art work. Its Sets, Locations, Sound and Visual Effects, Cinematography, Action and Dialogues are enough to watch it more than one time. It has 8.1 rating on IMDB. Unfortunately its most popular torrents are in Chinese spoken language and Non English subtitles more over its DVDs are also rare. I got it from “www.thepiratesbay.org” but HBO has also shown it on Cable. I’ll recommend it for action film viewers especially for Chinese Martial Art true lovers.
