CEARTE - Centro de Formação Profissional do Artesanato (Vocational Training Centre for Arts and Crafts) was created through a protocol between IEFP (Institute of Employment and Vocational Training) and the Diocesan Caritas of Coimbra and, since 1986, it has worked for the sector of Arts and Crafts, creative industries, and small companies, promoting employment, the valuation of territories and, in general, the qualification of the Portuguese.

Learning Programmes, Technological Specialisation, and Adult Education and Training (EFA) aimed at qualifying professionals capable of efficiently meeting the new demands of the labour market.

CEARTE has a broad set of training programmes which provide qualification to unemployed youths and adults for specific professional activities in Arts and Crafts, (Geriatrics, Health Assistant, School Custodian), Renewable Energies, Electricity, Multimedia, Computer Science, Environmental Systems, Gardening, Museography, Heritage Management, and Conservation and Restoration, grating level 3, 4 and 5 qualification, and 9th to 12th grade school certification. The partnerships established with teaching institutions, companies, museums and other entities take on an essential role throughout the entire training process and contribute to good employability.

modality shifting between Centre and company, have a strong practical component

Training for the Active Population (employed and unemployed) Continuous Training Within a perspective of life-long learning, CEARTE has contributed to the development and update of skills of the active population in general, and of social economy workers and artisans in particular.

The objective is to adjust training to the different needs of companies, artisans, social economy entities while investing in innovation, design, technical quality, hygiene and safety, ICTs, corporate management, promotion and trade.

CEARTE also organises training to meet the specific needs of small companies and organisations.

For unemployed people, CEARTE provides qualification aimed at enhancing re-entry into the labour market through the rapid integration into short training programmes, which allow the acquisition of relevant technical and entrepreneurial skills.

These programmes, integrated into the National Qualification System, are conducted throughout the national territory in collaboration with companies, private institutions of social solidarity, associations of artisans, associations for local development and other entities.

Tailored consulting to set up small enterprises CEARTE supports local or social entrepreneurship projects, providing specialised tailored consulting in: - product/service design - market research and strategy - marketing and communication - economic and financial feasibility studies - business formalisation

Technical support for micro-enterprises In order to contribute to the consolidation, economic sustainability and development of micro-enterprises, CEARTE provides technical support services at several levels, conducted by trainers specialised in solving occasional problems in production processes: - optimisation of production processes - resolution of production-related technological problems - use of equipment, tools and raw materials - Occupational Hygiene, Health and Safety - HACCP - others

LOC Creative Guidance Laboratory Provides artisans, designers and enterprises with the tools necessary to dynamically improve, change or adapt to customers and markets, supported by specialised information on fashion and trends, but most of all based upon the cultural identity of each territory and of Portuguese arts and crafts.

CRC Knowledge Resource Centre for Arts and Crafts CEARTE’s CRC is a knowledge resource centre aimed at collecting, treating and disseminating information pertaining to a group of related topics, and thus this centre makes it its mission to provide arts and crafts professionals, technicians, trainers, designers, creators, consulters, operators and all those interested with such information, so that they can properly develop their activities and research work.
