Simpkins hits Grand Slam as the Lady Tigers return to State SemiFinals

CALVERT - The Rising Sun Lady Tigers put up eight runs in the fifth inning on their way to an 11-1 victory over the North Caroline Bulldogs on Saturday in the MPSSAA State Quarterfinals. Cadence Williams, Faith McCullough, Jayden Simpkins, Josalyn McMillan, and McCullough all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

Rising Sun got things started in the first inning. Williams grounded out, scoring one run.

The Lady Tigers were leading 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning when they put up eight runs to end the game. The Rising Sun big bats were led by Williams, McCullough, Simpkins, McMillan, and McCullough, all driving in runs in the frame.

McCullough was on the rubber for Rising Sun. The hurler surrendered one run on four hits over four innings, striking out two.

Emma Beales was in the circle for North Caroline. The righty allowed nine hits and six runs over four innings, striking out one and walking one. Taylor Dawkins threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

The Lady Tigers launched one home run on the day. The score was 5-1 with the bases loaded when Simpkins put one over the fence in the fifth inning for a Grand Slam.

Rising Sun scattered 14 hits in the game. McCullough, Jordan Lynch, Kelsey Barks, and McMillan all had multiple hits for the Tigers. Lynch and McCullough each collected three hits to lead Rising Sun.
