a journey between two points introduction
Passage: “a specific act of traveling or passing from one place to another; a journey between two points.” A designer’s adventure is never done. There is always something new waiting to be discovered, as every artistic creation is a voyage into the unknown. Every great work starts from a small journey. On mine, I realized how often I reach for traveling metaphors to explain what I am doing. For me, every project not only led me into unfamiliar territory, but allowed me to re-envision my own familiar surroundings from a new perspective, an another way of seeing the landscape of Graphic Design. In this portfolio, every project is made by some hundreds details and thousands hard hours of work. All of them came from a starting point, passed by check points, and now arrive to their final destination: this book. Each completed piece of work is a benchmark, an indication of how far I’ve come.

a new face for vanity fair opportunity
strategy
In today’s marketplace it is relatively easy to find brands that are either dead or don’t have the same impact that they once had. The mission was to identify a brand that no longer speaks to the modern audience and re-image it through a new visual identity system with a comprehensive brand experience. It was given the challenge of pushing the brand beyond anything imaginable, as long as it fits the original spirit of the brand.
Vanity Fair offered women comfort that ultimately lead to their confidence. Research confirmed that “confidence” was the essence of the mission since its foundation, and became the main value of the rebranding. What would the next generation of Vanity Fair offer? That is what this project explores. The new VFair seeks to inspire costumers to go farther, beyond their limitations; to enhance the outer and inner life of women, for their body, mind and soul.

a solution for the future opportunity
strategy
In groups of three, a single topic was chosen to inspire the creation of a series of three books on different aspects of the topic. The content, voice, and design looked and felt cohesive they were able to stand on its own. We were pushed to expand on previously learned principles while also incorporating more advanced concepts such as hierarchy, organization, team work, and grid systems.
Our series explored the effects of education on quality of life and it was divided up by “How education affects income”, “How education affects crime and violence” and “How education affects health”. As a group we choose to signature bind our own book—to look like the traditional composition notebooks. We also built out the housing for the three books—a bider wrapped with brown paper bags, just like we were taught in high school.

Lately, society is facing a lot of different social issues and organization, movements are been created every day to address them. But, are they successful? The objective was to choose a specific company, organization, or movement that needs help marketing its services in a more appealing way. We were asked to make a thorough assessment of the organization and its market, and begin a process of branding it and giving it a new voice based on the core messages the it needs to communicate. Design solutions should be developed in a way that utilizes sustainable practice and minimizes waste.

To gain a comprehensive understanding of a social issue—and create an insightful narrative that can resonate, educate and inspire people—it is necessary to go through research, analysis, and visual exploration. The mission was to explore the problem in 360° from it affects society, education, the environment, politics, etc.
I learned that, as a graphic designer, it is important to synthesize information and communicate visually with the supporting message.

Filmmakers who have the ability to successfully translate words on a script to picture on a screen produce the most influential films that touch the bottom of our heart. To create a film festival experience is a great opportunity to get into the mind set of a director and understanding concepts that run through selective films.
Every deliverable designed for the festival was tied to the thread of... The theme not only informed my design decisions but the type of festival I imagined as well.

an immersion into dance opportunity
strategy
Posters are wonderful tool to promote dance festivals, because they utilize scale to have a visual impact. The mission to design a poster and a fold-out brochure for a festival by a dance troupe of choice. The event had to incorporate multiple performances based on a specific theme, and a brochure including a order form and background information. The solution had to be principally typographic as the typography was used to express the theme.
The nature of this project drove me to look for a company that was bold and contemporary. I chose Dance Company Deborah Colker, a Brazilian troupe noted for athletic, highly photogenic ensembles staged on fancy apparatus. Their productions typically feature elaborate installations and sets, and tackle abstract themes with a scattershot earnestness. Dancers climb on one another’s shoulders, dangle from a partner’s elbows, balance on each other like so many building blocks. I created a poster that fuses words and images into a single impression, thinking of type as an image and using letter forms to express the concept.

a reference for better cooking opportunity

In today’s marketplace it is relatively easy to find brands that are either dead or don’t have the same impact that they once had. The mission was to identify a brand that no longer speaks to the modern audience and re-image it through a new visual identity system with a comprehensive brand experience. It was given the challenge of pushing the brand beyond anything imaginable, as long as it fits the spirit of the brand.
Vanity Fair offered women comfort that ultimately lead to their confidence. Research confirmed that “confidence” was the essence of the the brand’s mission since its foundation, what became the main value of the rebranding. Jumping off from this point, what would the next generation of Vanity Fair offer? That is what this project explores. The new VFair seeks to inspire costumers to go farther, beyond their limitations; it works to enhance the outer and inner life of women, for her body, mind and soul.

a musical interpretation opportunity

New designers have the tendency to start their design process on the computer, what can limit creativity. The object was to explore various ways of looking at type through the use of analog methods without the help of a software, and create an experimental typographic poster that expresses visually the tone and emotional resonance of a chosen song. Ultimately, we were asked to develop the rationale for interpreting a piece of music through typography, imagery and layout, considering that colors and composition are vital to capture the true essence of a song.
I chose “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield because it’s one of my favorite songs. Every time I listen to it I feel very hopeful and empowered, since the song tells that each of us are the masters of our destiny and we just need to be always open to new boundaries, ideas and possibilities. The process to create the poster involved a combination of type and images printed on acetate sheets and swatches of colored cellophane that were project onto a wall through an old overhead projector. I manually twisted and turned the materials and photographed them in different angles to create unique compositions. The photos ultimately made up the body of the poster.

a safer place for wildlife opportunity

A graphic design thesis is a final project that is meant to showcase all of the skills that were cultivated over the course of the program. A thesis project identifies a problem and a single objective—through extensive research, design thinking, and problem solving—and delivers solutions that address the problem in a visually compelling manner. The project demonstrates a full range of the student’s design skills, thinking and analysis, as well the ability to visually communicate a complex topic.
I chose the topic of the illegal wild animal trafficking and pet market, something that connects directly with my passion to Brazilian nature. To start my thesis journey, I did in person, online, and phone interviews and surveys to find out where was the gap on educating Americans on wild animal trafficking. In order to fully comprehend the grandiosity of the topic and understand the problem I would attempt to solve, I also performed many hours of research, data collecting, traveling, story reading, etc. I discovered that the animal rights scenario is saturated with a attempts to reach different audiences, but they were neglecting younger public, who are the next generation of decision makers. Aiming to reach this population before they make wrong decisions, my thesis gives them a way to love and respect the rainforest and its inhabitants.
