CAIE RESULTS BULLETIN

Cedar Publications presents the second issue of the Bulletin!

This week as the upcoming results dominating everyone's minds there are some pertinent things that we urge the students to remember

Firstly, these grades may seem very monumental but they are not the ones that decide your future Hard work and dedication will always help you achieve your goals no matter what A2 is a very demanding and important year of our educational journey, and one must be duly prepared for it. Commencing A2, subjects may become more challenging which is why students are expected to maintain a consistent schedule to balance both their academics as well as their extracurricular activities. A2 also brings forth the university application process, which must be taken very seriously Do not hesitate to reach out to the counselling team for queries in this regard

Aside from the toil and tension of A2 and upcoming grades, this week was also about preparations for 14th August This issue covers our students' efforts to make the upcoming 14th August celebrations a success, a way of showing our love and sincerity towards our home country Let's all join hands to make a ‘Greener Pakistan’, as Cedar organises plantation drives for this year's Independence Day

Cedar Publications wishes Knights the best of luck for their results!

Dear Knights,

As you stand on the threshold of receiving your A Level results, it is only natural that you will experience a complex mix of emotions excitement, nervousness, and perhaps even anxiety. These feelings are entirely normal, and you are not alone in experiencing them. Here are a few tips to help you manage any stress or anxiety you might feel:

Breathe and Stay Grounded: When you feel your anxiety rising, take a few deep breaths Focus on the present moment rather than worrying about what might happen Perspective is Key: Your A Level results are important, but they do not define your worth or your future. Success comes in many forms, and there are always multiple pathways to achieve your goals Keep things in perspective and remind yourself that this is just one step in your journey

Stay Connected: Talk to someone you trust about how you are feeling, whether it’s a friend, family member, teacher or counsellor. Sharing your thoughts can help lighten the load and provide valuable support.

Plan Ahead: Consider what you will do after receiving your results, regardless of the outcome Having a plan can provide a sense of control and direction Whether your results meet your expectations or not, there are always options and opportunities ahead

Celebrate Your Efforts: Regardless of the outcome, take pride in the effort you have put into your studies. You have made it through a challenging period, and that is an achievement in itself

Finally, remember to be kind to yourself Your journey is uniquely yours, and this moment is just one chapter in a much larger story. Embrace whatever comes next with an open heart and a positive mindset. With resilience, determination, and a healthy perspective, you can navigate this transition and whatever lies ahead with confidence

Cheers

D-Day is near. It will bring mixed emotions some may feel they’ve accomplished everything, while others might think their life is over. It’s neither. If you feel you’ve achieved it all, stay humble and aim higher. If you think your life is over, learn from the experience and know what’s not to be done. The moment you think ‘I can’t,’ you won’t. But when you think ‘I can,’ half the battle is won. One word of advice: persevere.

Best of luck history students! You've worked hard and studied hard and wrestled with the historical debates over the processes that have made the world what it is today Whatever your final result, I'm proud of you all and enjoyed exploring history with you

WE BELIEVE IN YOU CHAMPS!!

- Asma Raza

It’s that time of the year again! Most of you would, I am sure, find yourselves dreading the result announcement Even if your exam prep was perfect and you did super well, nothing seems to ease the racing mind which goes into hyperdrive thinking about possible result outcomes. To all of you I would say one thing: breathe! Breathe through the discomfort, the fear, the apprehension, the joy or the happiness. Remember this: you are going to make it through whatever result day brings and we are all here to help you through it. With this thought, I wish you all the best of luck for your result, and I hope to see you on campus very soon

Don't just hope for good results, expect them! You've earned it through your hard work and commitment.

Results are just a number, but your determination and spirit are what truly matter Good luck, and may you achieve everything you've worked towards. Remember, every success is a stepping stone to greater things "

-Salman Amin

SALMA BAIG-

You've got this!

-Sanya Ali

13th August will be a day full of emotions For those who get their desired grades, congratulations and continue to strive and be the best version of yourselves As for those who don't get their ideal grades, embrace the moment with confidence, hope and self-love Remember, every success story began with challenges So stand tall and celebrate your growth, regardless of the outcome. Lots of love and prayers,

Result day is surely a very important moment in the life of every student The efforts put in during the entire academic session, the time invested on assignments, staying active in online classes and giving the best shot on the examination day. All of these ultimately concludes on this result day If you get a good grade, celebrate! Be happy, but if you get a bad grade, accept, be sad but don’t consider yourself inferior. It must be understood by every mature student that results are definitely important to maintain motivation and to get societal acceptance, but in the longer run bad results won’t make a much big of a difference. As a Mentor and Teacher I personally know hundreds of students who were not very good in classroom and didn’t get really good results, but still they are quite successful now and are doing wonders in professional lives. One advice for all the readers, keep moving forward in life. Give your best shot in everything you do Accept the fact that every student possess a unique gift that needs to be explored in life If you get result that you expect and it makes you happy - Congratulations! Proud of you!

If you get a bad result, or a result that you did not expect, Accept it! I am still proud of you!

-Asad Kothari

As you wait for your results, I want to share something from the heart: no grade, no matter what it is, can ever capture the full essence of who you are You've worked hard, you've learned so much, and that in itself is something to be proud of Wishing you all the best of luck :)

Wishing you all the best for your results It’s natural to feel stressed, but remember to have confidence and trust that you’ve given it your all. Regardless of the outcome, know that you are important to us Never give up!

-Kamran Anwer

All the best for your CAIES Please remember that although grades are very important but they do not always define you. Your hard work, acknowledging your mistakes, and learning from it makes you strong and a better human being. If you end up with your desired result, stay humble and thank God for it. Also, be there for your friends who might be needing you at this time. If God forbid you do not end up with your desired result, then do not lose hope. Everything happens for a good reason if you have given your best. Try searching for the reasons why you did not achieve what you desired and work on your shortcomings. This is not the end of the world, but just a stepping stone. Stay humble, stay focused, and develop a vision, which does not revolve around you, but which enables you to become a ray of hope, a beam of light in someone's dark and gloomy world. All the best. May you all end up with amazing results. You are only responsible for your efforts and not the result Please remember, whatever the result is, we love you and will be there for you always InshaAllah hum hongay kaamyaab

Your journey is unique, and every step you take is closer to your dreams Embrace the learning process, stay resilient, and trust that your dedication will lead you to greatness You are capable of amazing things!

PATRIOTISMWhat Does it Actually Mean?

Pakistan, the land we call home and a testament to our freedom. The place that is engraved in our hearts. Since the independence of 1947, every 14th August, green and white flags are up high in the sky as people celebrate this country

We take pride in our country in every way, be it in sports, education, cultural diversity, the enthusiasm knows no bounds. Be it rich, poor, man, woman or child, all praise the beauty of Pakistan. From the ice capped mountains in the north to the sandy beaches in the south, Pakistan is a jewel that is rich in diversity of terrain That mixed with the hospitality of the people makes our home a special place to be

Our nation is composed of endless cultures, languages, religions, but everyone rises for the same national anthem, every person cheers for the same cricket team, and they all celebrate the same independence day This makes us one, this makes us all Pakistani Thus we say in unison, “Pakistan Zindabad ”

This year, Karachi saw some record-breaking temperatures during June and July. Bearing in mind the scorching heat, the Government of Pakistan decided to extend the holidays and reopen educational institutes by 15th August. To ensure that there is no gap in their learning, Cedar commenced with online classes for the A2 students so that they are able to complete the entire syllabus well within time for the final CAIEs in April 2025.

With a carefully curated schedule for each day of the week, the online classes started on Monday, August 5th. With the teachers geared up to delve into the course, it is highly imperative for students to take these classes, as they serve to prepare them to deal with the demands of A level study. These sessions are also recorded and saved on the subjects’ Google Classroom so that students always have access to this valuable information. Teachers have also begun giving small assignments to keep the students engaged with what they are teaching in the online classes. While it may not be the same as studying on-campus, we must make most of the time we have now, and avail the facilities Cedar has provided us inspite of the circumstances set by the government Constant communication between the teachers and students via Zoom and Google Classroom helps in the understanding of the subject matter, setting the pace for the year ahead

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Hooria Aman Mughal is an A2 student whose accomplishments are a testament to her talents After joining Cedar, she became a part of many societies due to her diverse interests such as Cedar Union MUN to enhance her public speaking skills, STEM society because of her love for science and technology and as well as joining the basketball team. Hooria is also a talented girl scout and her biggest achievement was being awarded the Commissioner Award at a very young age. Not only this, she was also chosen as the ONLY female youth participant to represent Pakistan in the 25th World Scout Jamboree Joining Cedar and having access to unlimited opportunities made Hooria a part of Project Sky in her AS level and also a runner up at the National Science Bowl Competition in 2024.

Hooria also highlighted her struggles in managing both her academics and extracurriculars initially by speaking of how she was tempted to give up but she never let these emotions get the best of her Instead, she utilised and managed her time efficiently between both these aspects.

Well known for her involvement in Project Sky, she recalled how grateful she was for being shortlisted for this prestigious project by Cedar Upon being asked her part in the project Hooria said, “As a member of both the Launch team and the Locating team, my responsibilities were varied and challenging The Launch team was responsible for setting up the site, filling the balloon with helium, ensuring it remained undamaged, and then launching it into the air. The Locating team attached trackers like Zoleo to the data logger, which sent us the coordinates of the balloon’s location We had to identify the location, translate it according to the Civil Aviation's guidelines, and send updates to Civil Aviation every five minutes.”

Hooria is inspired by the people around her According to her, she has many friends who humble her with their amazing achievements, and it pushes her to improve herself A dreamer, Hooria intends to choose a career path that keeps her happy in the long run despite having multiple interests

Hooria has a message for her peers: never let go of opportunities. This is the prime time for gaining as much experience as possible and she believes Cedar College provides students with countless opportunities; we just need to seize them and remain eager for both opportunities and knowledge, as neither will ever go in vain. She encourages students to keep thriving and trying anew even if they do not win

We wish Hooria a heartfelt congratulations for her current achievements and wish her the very best of luck for her future endeavours.

PROUD PAKISTANIS!

To celebrate Pakistan’s 77th year of day with fervour, Cedar Publications would like to highlight some proud moments for Pakistan in 2024:

Olympic Gold: Taking the independence day spirit to heart, Arshad Nadeem achieved one of the greatest feats in the history of Pakistan, firmly placing him among our nation’s elite athletes After decades, he won a gold medal for Pakistan in the Paris Olympics 2024, setting an Olympic record of 92 97 metres to win the men’s Javelin

title

Arshad Nadeem remains a great inspiration for all those who dream- an epitome of hard work and dedication. He started his sports journey with the help of a few villagers who helped him fund his equipment while he trained without any professional help In the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Arshad had secured a top 5 position in the men javelin’s throw, a testament to his strong will to excel beyond boundaries In 2022, he won a gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Then in Budapest in 2023, he also won Pakistan’s first ever medal in the World Athletic Championships- a silver for the men’s javelin.

Arshad’s story is witness to the success that stems from forging ahead against all odds

The first International Nuclear Science Olympiad in New Clark City, Philippines, is a competition in the field of nuclear science and technology It is held specifically for secondary students in the Asia Pacific Region and this year a remarkable feat was achieved by Pakistan's team

Students from multiple schools came together to compete and they did not come home empty handed Suleman Nouman from Siddeeq Public School and Dunham Kashmir from Lahore Grammar School both won silver medals and Ehban Adam from Karachi Grammar School and Qasim Salam also from Siddeeq Public School brought back Gold Medals Brought together by Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) from all over the country upon completion of rigorous tests, there they were trained for this demanding competition.

Much hard work and dedication was portrayed only by the students but also their coaches and we can safely say that all their hard work paid off!

ART CORNER

This week, let’s marvel at Vincent van Gogh's "Starry Night "

Painted in 1889, this famous work captures a turbulent night sky filled with swirling stars over a serene village Van Gogh’s career as an artist was short and tragic. He never sold a painting during his lifetime, save one which was bought by his brother The painting, like most of Van Gogh’s other paintings, was done while he was in Arles, a beautiful, rich burst of color The stars, which in the sketch are depicted as little circles of white in a black drawing, become shiny and bright, illuminating the painting almost as brightly as the stars in the night sky illuminate the dark Despite its beauty, the painting does however provoke a slight feeling of foreboding with the swirls of paint like strong gusts of wind and the dark tree in the front left of the painting

How does Van Gogh use colour and movement to convey emotion? What feelings does the painting evoke in you?

Reflect on how this artwork blends reality and imagination to create a captivating vision of the night

Ponder over these questions and share your thoughts via cep@cedar edu pk The best insights will be showcased in the next edition of the Bulletin.

BEST ART INTERPRETATIONS FROM ISSUE I

One could say this art piece refers to the notion of time slipping away, your memory fading and molding as the mind replays it over and over again, perpetually shaping it into something other than what it was initially. Symbolizing the clocks as "memory", the memories seem unkempt as the clocks lay flexuous on the ground, adding to the "slipping away" effect. The backdrop on the other hand, gives a somber effect on the surrealistic picture, reflecting a sense of impending doom. the term 'persistent memory' also implies the change in the existing memory, each time you revisit it, hence the unconventionally shaped clocks

This looks similar to a lucid dream, where you're stuck in your conscience without any control over the surroundings The clocks show the once-important things in your life which now lay lifeless as you've lost motivation, hence leading to losing any sense of time The pliant clocks, while symbolising certain aspects of your life that you've given up on, might also show you a loop of the scene, reminding you of all that you've wasted, the land a graveyard of your aspirations.

I feel like the clock in the painting symbolises the past, present and future. The button on top of the clock as it is above the 12 hour mark might be indicating that it’s a stopwatch and how people get stuck in time whether it’s the past, present or thinking about the future It might actually indicate PTSD symptoms, or how time melts away whilst we’re still stuck in a specific time fragment The backdrop on the other hand, seems like a place that time has passed through, its years over, and now it is nearing its end. The land is dry and the trees withered, as time is concluding, ultimately bringing death.
