CHOOSING THE
BEST TRAIL CAMERA FOR YOUR NEEDS
Our customers often ask us for advice on which Browning Trail Camera model would be the best for them, stating they just don’t know where to start. With so many different trail camera models available and a variety of different features and settings on each, we can see how it could be overwhelming when choosing your first trail camera. However, it doesn’t have to be difficult at all. By answering a few simple questions outlined below, you will be able to easily narrow it down and find the best trail camera to suit your needs.
What am I wanting to get trail camera images of? Trail cameras can be used for a variety of reasons and determining how it will be used is the first step in choosing your trail camera. The most common use for trail cameras is hunting, but they can be used for security and surveillance purposes, as well as just wanting to get beautiful images of wildlife in your backyard. What you plan on getting images/videos of then brings us to the next step in choosing the right trail camera for you: flash preference.
What type of flash do I prefer on my trail camera? What you plan on getting images of on your trail cameras plays a big part in the type of flash that you will need. For example, if you are using your trail camera for surveillance of your home, business, etc, then you would not want a trail camera that has a visible flash that trespassers can see. Alternatively, if you are using it on private property to catch images of wildlife and you feel that a visible flash will not spook your target species, then a camera with a Standard IR flash will be just fine. Tom Rainey of Browning Trail Cameras shared an article with some great information explaining the different flash types that trail cameras have: Nighttime Trail Camera Images – Putting Light On The Subject – Browning Trail Cameras (zendesk.com)
Am I using the trail camera for images, videos, or both? Trail cameras have come a long way in terms of technology and most camera models will now take either an image or a video, depending on what you have it set on. Some trail camera models are geared more towards getting great images, while others are geared more for high quality HD videos. If HD videos are what you need, then you can narrow your trail camera search down by checking out which models are capable of doing that and go from there. If you could care less about getting videos and just want to get trail camera images, then choosing an entry level could be your best option. If you are in the middle and are wanting a camera that does both, then one of our mid-level cameras would be great for you.
Do I want a cellular trail camera? Cellular trail cameras operate just the same as regular trail cameras, except they also have the capability of sending images to your device via an associated app. With that also comes different data plans with options on how many images will be sent to you per month. Not everyone wants or needs a camera to send images to them, while others may live hours away from where they are placing their trail camera, so keeping that in mind will help you easily determine whether or not you would like a cellular trail camera.
OUR CAMERA SUGGESTIONS By answering the questions above, you should now be able to identify your basic trail camera needs so you can narrow down your trail camera search and find the perfect camera model for you. In our next article, we will go more in depth on the different trail camera features for those looking at taking the next step in their trail camera experience.
