All of us here at Drake Waterfowl were fortunate enough to have someone in our lives that introduced us to the outdoors. Whether it was a father, uncle, or family friend, they instilled in us at an early age the excitement and values of being a hunter. Now we find ourselves in the position to pass this hunting heritage along to our own children and other young hunters in our lives. The responsibility of introducing a new generation of hunters to the outdoors is an incredible opportunity and not something we take lightly. Remembering how we got here has helped us gain a clear focus on what’s ahead.

This vision is pretty evident when you see two of our new product lines for 2009.

We felt there was no better way to capture the memories of time with our fathers and grandfathers than to reintroduce the camo pattern of their day. Drake Old School Camo™ is our version of “brown camo” with some slight modifications to make it uniquely our own. This is a small line of our top products designed to help us pay respect to the family and friends that so greatly influenced our lives by getting us involved in the sport they loved. But we didn’t stop there. Like most generations, we wanted to provide our kids with something better than we had growing up... like innovative waterfowl hunting gear to help them enjoy every hunt. Our new Youth Series is packed with proven features just like the rest of our line, and it’s sure to keep young hunters comfortable in the field and ready to come back for more. We’ve even started the Young Guns Hunt Club to help kids learn and grow their passion for waterfowl hunting year round.

As if that weren’t enough, we are launching another new product that has been a long time in the making - Double Duty™ Decoys. A couple of seasons spent field testing these decoys have truly revolutionized the way we hunt, and we’re confident the same will hold true for hunters everywhere. The design of the Double Duty Decoys is based around one simple truth: Motion = Realism. Check them out and see for yourself. Finally, we rounded out our Eqwader Wading System line with the introduction of EST Waders and EST Boat Pants. These lightweight breathable waders join the MST and LST waders which were an instant success when introduced last season.

We’ve been hard at work on these new products, and we are constantly improving our current gear as well. Our drive to develop the highest quality, most innovative waterfowl gear on the market is fueled by looking back to those that brought us into the sport, and looking ahead to those that will continue the heritage of waterfowl hunting into the future. The goal was to create an interactive multimedia program aimed at motivating young waterfowl hunters, educating them about the sport, and keeping them entertained along the way way. The result is the Drake Young Guns Hunt Club™ program.

Young Guns Hunt Club™

is an Internet-based tool where kids can interact with other kids their age to learn the basics of waterfowl hunting, shooting and safety tips, calling instructions, and even swap hunting photos and stories with each other. The educational content will be led by Drake’s national youth pro staff, Team Young Guns™, which enlists names like Greg Hubbell, Jr. and Shelby Free. Greg, age 13, is the current Junior World Duck Calling Champion and one of the most decorated contest callers in a variety of species encompassing not only waterfowl, but also turkey and elk. Shelby, age 16, is the current Women’s World Duck Calling Champion.

Shelby is a two-time winner of that competition, winning the title for the first time in 2006, and she previously won the Junior Women’s World Duck Calling contest. Greg and Shelby will be joined by other young ambassadors of the sport to lead the charge in educating other young hunters through the Young Guns program.

The Drake Waterfowl Elite Team will also be a primary source of written and video content featuring well-known industry veterans like Tim Grounds, Hunter Grounds, Barnie Calef, and Eli, Kelly and Rod Haydel.

PROBLEM: Rust If you hunt often, when using a sheath-style case, it’s not uncommon for the case to collect moisture on the inside from daily use. After putting a wet gun in a sheath-style case, putting it in the back of a warm truck and driving 4 hours home from camp, it is a good possibility that the rusting process has begun.

Almost anywhere you hunt, the elements usually cause rusting. Whether, you hunt coastal shorelines, brackish marsh water, gumbo mud, or during humid days, all induce rusting.
