Wood Stain Finishes
Stains w/Glaze Choice
Mouser Cabinetry’s wood stain finishes are formulated to enhance the beauty of the grain pattern. Multiple levels of hand sanding prepare the wood for stain applications and ensure the color consistency, clarity, beauty and depth of the stain finish. Over 150 standard selections are available.
Mouser Cabinetry’s wood stain finishes are formulated to change the color of a wood surface without concealing the beauty of the grain pattern or texture of the surface. In the Glaze Choice process, one of six contrasting finish materials is applied to a standard stain and the excess materials are hand wiped from flat surfaces leaving “glaze hang up” in the corners, interior beads, panel shapes, and edge profiles. Although the glaze is wiped away from the flat surfaces, the different color pigments will impact the base color creating different hues of the finish depending on the glaze selected. Over 130 standard Glaze Choice selections are available using the Amber, Bourbon, Chocolate, Pewter, Java and Black glazing materials.

Custom Stain Finishes The Custom Stain Finish program allows consumers to select a unique wood stain to match a desired wood tone not found in Mouser’s stain finish offering.

Solid Colors Mouser’s Solid Color finishes consist of tinted color applications, two sealer coats followed by hand sanding and dust collection, and a final application of a heavily pigmented, catalyzed conversion varnish topcoat. Between applications, the solid colors experience four individual oven cures to ensure the quality, color consistency and durability of the product finish. Solid colors are available on Maple, Cherry, Knotty and Select Alder, Hickory, Red Oak, and on our MDF+Plus.

Solid Color w/Glaze Choice
The Glaze Choice finishing process creates unique, artistic finish characteristics by applying contrasting finish materials to solid colors and hand wiping the excess material from the flat surfaces. The resulting contrasting highlight accentuates the base finish by “hanging up” or collecting in corners, interior beads, panel shapes and edge profiles. Since the glaze is almost entirely wiped clean on flat surfaces when applied to solid colors the panel base color appearance is not changed. Over 720 Glaze Choice combinations are offered on select wood species using one of six Glaze Choice colors: Amber, Bourbon, Chocolate, Pewter, Java and Black.
Solid Color With Glaze
Solid Color w/Glacier Elect
Glacier Elect finishing provides Old World character and charm by adding brush strokes or striations to the base finish. The most elaborate finish offered by Mouser Cabinetry, the process involves several additional finish steps including the hand wiping application of one of four Glacier Elect color options: White, Warm Brown, Dark Brown and Black. More than 140 options are available.
Finishes with Accent
Mouser’s Finishes with Accent have a specially formulated dark glaze applied to achieve the final finish color. Profiled areas of the doors or drawer fronts are accented by leaving the glaze on the final product instead of wiping it clean. Glazing in profiled areas will be more evident than the flat surface areas of doors, drawer fronts, face frames, and panels.
Custom Solid Colors
Mouser’s Custom Solid Color program allows consumers to personalize their kitchens by matching popular colors found on paint samples, solid surface materials and laminate products. A unique aspect of the Custom Solid Color program is the availability of all Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore colors. Make a selection from one of these color offerings and Mouser will produce a Match Sample for your client presentation.
Solid Color With Glacier
Glaze Choice Glacier Elect w/Accents Glacier Elect with Accent finishes are solid colors with stain material applied to create contrasting striations on a solid color and finish hang-up in the profiled areas of panel doors, drawer fronts and intricately profiled mouldings. The Glacier Elect striations are subdued and intended to be visible when standing six to eight feet from the cabinetry. Glacier Elect with Accent finishes are available in White, Warm Brown, Dark Brown and Black.
Match Sample Doors A Match Sample Door is produced when a custom stain, custom solid color or interchangeable finish is selected by the client. The finished Match Sample Door, which is cut in half, labeled and shipped to the Mouser dealer for review, must be approved by the client prior to production of the cabinet order.

Interchangeable Finishes Mouser Cabinetry’s Interchangeable Finish Program expands our predetermined wood and finish combinations to include options not available as established catalog offerings. You may request approval for any catalog wood specie to be finished with any of our catalog finishes. Mouser reviews each request and reserves the right to decline some wood specie/finish combinations due to the unacceptable appearance of the sample.

Distressing Options Mouser Cabinetry offers four optional distressing packages that represent increasing quantities of distressing techniques and characteristics.
Cobblestone Distressing: A subtle distressing option utilizing sanded corner wear and rock distressing techniques to make your cabinetry appear slightly aged and well worn.
Rustic Distressing: A distressing technique intended to make your cabinetry look like it was made many years ago and has withstood the elements of time.
Heirloom Distressing: Combines various physical and finish distressing techniques to give cabinetry the look of precious aged heirlooms.
Weathered Distressing: Our most aggressive distressing package, simulating wood and finish reaction to many years of wear and tear and changing natural conditions.
A La Carte Distressing On Mouser Premier Series cabinetry, a designer may create a unique appearance with a mixture of aging characteristics selected from the A la carte Distressing offering of 17 individual techniques. These distressing techniques are hand-crafted by Mouser artisans and authentically replicate the aging characteristics of wood. For the ultimate in customization, most of these A la carte Distressing techniques are available in “Light, Normal and Heavy” intensity levels.
Finish Enhancements
Additionally, on Premier Series cabinetry, Mouser offers four finish enhancements on custom cabinets: Water Spots, Dry Brush Edges, Spattering and Cow Tailing. These finish enhancements may be selected individually or in any combination to create the desired style and overall appearance of the cabinetry. They may even be used in conjunction with the A la carte Distressing options to produce the one-of-a-kind design.
Six
Spattering (fly-specking): Random distribution of small, pigmented “specks” on the finish surface, which is protected with our catalyzed sealer and topcoat.
Waterspots: Involves the use of “stain droplets” instead of the Spattering materials to produce a more subtle effect than Spattering; only available on stain finishes.
Cow Tailing: Small straight and curved streaks of a color contrasting glaze applied randomly on finished cabinetry areas in optional Amber, Chocolate, Smoke or Black colors.
Dry Brush Edges: Available for stain finishes and those solid color paints that have our Glaze Choice or Glacier Elect options. Dry brushed glaze highlighting applied to produce a broader glaze effect on doors, drawer fronts, end panels, and profiled mouldings.

Quarter Sawn White Oak: - An open grained wood with grain patterns that are produced by quartering the log and cutting each quarter in a unique sequence. Distinguishing characteristics include ‘rays’ or ‘flecks’ that appear in random patterns across the grain of the wood giving the appearance of ‘tiger stripes’.
Select Cherry ranges in color from white to red and on to a deep, rich brown. Exposure to natural light causes the color of the wood to darken over time. The natural wood colors will deepen, turning the darker areas of the wood a deep, reddish brown while the lighter areas darken to shades of yellow and brown.
Red Oak is a very strong, open-grained hardwood that ranges in color from salmon pink to white. It is sometimes streaked with green, yellow and black mineral deposits and may contain knots and grain veins that are naturally characteristic of the wood.
Maple is a hardwood with a tight, uniform grain that tends to have very little definition and varies in color from white to cream to light brown with pale streaks of gold, pink, and brown throughout. Maple may exhibit small areas that are reminiscent of bird’s eyes and curly grain and may contain random small black mineral streaks.
Walnut: An open grained wood with long, wavy grain patterns and coarse texture exhibiting occasional mineral streaks and pin knots, Walnut has a rich, warm color, ranging from a deep chocolate brown to dark purple-brown to a light reddish-brown.
Paint Grade Maple is a hardwood with a tight, uniform grain that tends to vary in color from white to cream to light brown with pale streaks of gold, pink, and brown throughout. Paint Grade Maple may exhibit mineral markings and small areas that are reminiscent of bird’s eyes along with curly grain and may contain more variation in color.
MDF+Plus is a medium density fiberboard (MDF) of pre-consumer recycled wood fiber that utilizes a formaldehyde free adhesive system to create a water resistant product with superior MDF properties. MDF+Plus provides the same smooth surfaces, consistent board thickness and non-expansion, non-contraction properties of traditional MDF material.

The Mouser Finishing Process The entire multi-step Mouser Cabinetry finishing process combines to produce a finish that protects the cabinetry against stains, moisture and household chemicals. The finishing process shown below creates an extremely durable finish that will retain its original beauty through many years of natural use. 1. Raw Wood Selection - Wood is hand selected for consistency of color and grain pattern 2. Engineered Design of Components - All parts are designed to allow the flow of finish materials into areas of natural expansion and contraction, such as the door rail inside profile and the center panel profile 3. Hand Sanding - Exposed surfaces of the doors, drawer fronts, face frames, veneers and mouldings are meticulously hand sanded before the finish materials are applied 4. Sap Staining - The initial stain coat that is applied to diminish the contrast in wood tone between the lighter sapwood and the darker heartwood 5. Toner Staining - An application of a base stain that creates the color tones of the finish 6. Sealer Coat #1 - A clear catalyzed sealer is applied to maintain the natural moisture level of the wood and keep excessive moisture out of the wood 7. Oven Curing #1 - The product is oven cured at 120 degrees to activate the catalyst in the sealer 8. Sealer Sanding # 1- The sealer coat is hand sanded to remove raised wood grain and create a smooth surface for the next finish application 9. Hand Staining - The application of additional stain enhances the beauty and color of the wood by highlighting the wood’s natural grain Optional Glazing - Light and dark pigments can also be applied at this step in the finishing process to create highlighting and accenting 10. Oven Curing #2 - After the stain and glaze are hand-wiped, the product receives a second oven curing that helps build the molecular bonds of the finish materials 11. Sealer Coat #2 - A second clear catalyzed sealer coat is applied to build on the depth, quality, and durability of the finish 12. Oven Curing #3 - A third oven curing which further bonds the finish materials is completed 13. Sealer Sanding #2 - The second sealer coat is hand sanded to remove any raised wood grain and create a smooth surface for the next application 14. Tack Cloth Cleaned - An inspection is performed while the product is thoroughly cleaned with a vacuum and a tack cloth 15. Topcoat - The application of a very durable catalyzed topcoat of 10Flat, 20-Matte or 45-Satin is completed 16. Oven Curing #4 - The fourth oven curing completes the chemical bonding needed to produce the most durable finish in the industry 17. Final Inspection - A final inspection is performed before moving the product into a holding area to allow the finish to further cure
