ABOUT THE AWARDS

Established in 2006, the prestigious CEDIA Awards recognise and celebrate excellence in home technology design, installation and integration across the EMEA region (the UK, Europe, Russia and the CIS, the Middle East, India, Pakistan and Africa) EVENT SPONSORS

Every year, CEDIA members from across the EMEA region put their best projects forward with the aim of being recognised for their high quality system design, installation and integration.

with industry best practice, the imaginative and appropriate design and use of technology, impeccably designed and installed racks, value for money as well as that all important ‘wow’ factor.

This year’s scheme saw over 120 submissions from more than 17 countries, all competing for the top prizes in 2015. The battle to win a prestigious CEDIA Awards accolade has never been tougher.

Throughout the judging process, the identity of member companies taking part in the CEDIA Awards scheme remains completely anonymous to preserve the integrity of the adjudication process.

Each installation category is judged by an expert panel drawn from the worlds of architecture, interiors, property, IT, smart home journalism and, of course, custom installation, to ensure the highest standards of scrutiny for each and every entry.

Over 400 guests joined CEDIA for a black tie event to celebrate the winners. The CEDIA Awards 2015 ceremony is brought to you by the support of this year’s sponsors AMX, Artcoustic, ELAN, Indigo Distribution, Kaleidescape, LILIN, Origin Acoustics, Pulse Cinemas and Rako.

A first round of technical judging is complemented by a final rigorous assessment to determine the category winners. As well as the need to be integrated and beautifully concealed with the interior, important factors also considered include compliance

The CEDIA Awards is open only to CEDIA member companies. For more information on the scheme please visit www.cediaawards.org

Hall of Fame The CEDIA Awards began in 2006, when 4K screens or 3D Audio were unheard of. Yet, at this stage, CEDIA members were already impressing the judges with technologically advanced projects. Ten years down the line and CEDIA is still blown away by the innovative projects that are being entered into the scheme. The CEDIA Awards provides an opportunity for industry experts to share their successes and to be recognised on a global scale by fellow industry professionals, by the press and by the public.

2006 The CEDIA Awards was born. CEDIA held an informal ceremony at the CEDIA UK EXPO, where six awards including “Best Stand at CEDIA UK EXPO” and “Best Installation over £100,000” were picked up.

2007 T&T Automation’s “Project C” won Best Integrated Home over £100,000 for its “sophisticated” and “aesthetically well resolved” entry.

2008 ‘Gadget-girl’ celebrity, Suzi Perry presented the industry awards for CEDIA’s growing list of 12 categories. SMC won the award for its project “Cemetery House” which featured an audio-visual system which could ‘wake the dead’!

2009 Mehernosh Pervez of Sound Decisions Ltd, India and winner of Best Home Cinema £40,000 - £100,000 said “I think CEDIA is the industry platform to showcase our work and it’s a great honour and very encouraging to have this Association by your side, helping you always to reach higher and setting bigger goals ahead.”

2010 MR Domotica scooped a prize for its project ‘Rural Media’ based in the Netherlands, where one simple touch of the wireless Crestron touch panel closed the blinds in an ahead-of-its-time automation process.

2011 Henri Intégrateur Domotique impressed the judges with ‘Villa des Amis,’ a property in France which featured lighting, whole-home audio, video, security, and control of all electronic devices, extending across all four floors of the property.

2012 A Hollywood-inspired home cinema was put forward by Cinema Architects in South Africa. The creative challenge listed a 3m metre micro perforated Harkness Projector Screen, a High Definition Panasonic Home Cinema Projector and Paradigm Sound System within its kit list.

2013 CEDIA celebrated its awards in the majestic grounds of the Tower of London, where over 300 guests gathered to await the results of 16 categories, including “Best Marine Installation” and “Best Integrated Home over £250,000”. As a result of winning an award, Complete Home Control stormed national titles with its stunning ‘Birch House’

2014 CEDIA produced a 116 page year book, the largest to date. Over 150 entries from across the EMEA region were considered for the industry’s most sought after accolade. TV and radio comedian, Jon Culshaw hosted the ceremony which took place at the Old Royal Naval College.

2015 CEDIA announced the winners amongst history’s most magnificent animals and natural phenomena at the Natural History Museum. 415 guests gathered at the iconic 26-metre Diplodocus, otherwise known as Dippy to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the CEDIA Awards. The tenth CEDIA Awards concludes with the Association being awarded Best Publication for the CEDIA Awards Yearbook at the TAF (Trade Association Forum) Awards

Highgate Media Room // INSTALLER

H&H Audio Visual Ltd

H&H Audio Visual Ltd was enlisted to deliver a multi-functional media room, which would incorporate a cinema experience, home office, and space for a coin collection, in the loft of a four storey Victorian townhouse. The client’s main requirement was to be able to walk into the room, and at the touch of a button, turn the office space into a 5.1 cinema set up. The installer overcame a number of challenges, including delivering the project within a tight budget and ticking all the boxes in terms of features and integration. Having the correct planning in place and a great understanding of these set ups,

An ambitious and impressive media room, which not only delivered on the client’s original brief, but surpassed their expectations on a strict budget.

H&H Audio Visual was able to shave time and money from the programming and installation cost. Another challenge came at the design phase as the installer had to calculate the best orientation for the speakers in the unusual shape, which included the existing chimney stack and vaulted ceiling. H&H Audio Visual compensated for this by selecting an AV receiver with comprehensive acoustic adjustment features, such as Audyssey and Dynamic EQ. By working closely with an interior designer to specify and design the joinery, H&H Audio Visual was able to allow for a millimetre perfect finish and for the system to be woven into the joinery aesthetically. The overall design is sympathetic to the rest of the house and is in keeping with the architecture of the building.

Keeping Life Simple // INSTALLER

Cornflake Cornflake had the task of transforming a light and bright room, which included two full height picture windows into a calm, fresh, unimposing and casual media room, which would provide a family with space to relax, and enjoy movie nights. Cornflake installed a 2.1 audio system with a large wall-mounted TV, levelled between two aesthetically pleasing Martin Logan speakers and a Velodyne subwoofer, to cater for low end sound. Teamed with atmospheric lighting, soft furnishings and acoustically absorbent fabric wallpaper, the difficult room has become an unexpected hit with the entire family. The understated system highlights how easy it can be to create a media room that incorporates equipment in such a way that it doesn’t dominate the room, or make it unusable for other activities.

New Land Solutions Ltd

The client’s brief was to create a space, which would accommodate an 8 – 10 seater cinema, and a more relaxed family room. New Land Solutions’ three main objectives were to make sure that the viewing experience would be the same, no matter which seat you are sat in, that all equipment remains hidden and to a high standard, and finally, that the room is finished in the style of a super yacht, useable both in the day and evening. New Land Solutions began by focussing on the disappearing seats, and in the end, has delivered an impressive and unique set up. The deceptively simple space is focussed around a relaxing, half circle sofa and compact coffee table. With one press of the Savant

controlled touchscreen, the space magically transforms. The coffee table disappears into the floor, allowing the sofa to slide forward and over the now empty space. From behind the sofa, five Fortress cinema chairs appear from beneath, thanks to a Future Automation automated lift mechanism. A large Screen Research projector screen descends down from a concealed ceiling slot in front of the sofa and a Runco projector silently slides into position behind a wall at the rear of the room. The blinds automatically descend to create a perfect movie viewing environment, eleven hidden speakers power on, driven by Procella amplification and a Datasat RS20 audio processor to complete a unique media room transformation.

Kensington Audio Visual Kensington Audio Visual overcame a big challenge on this project, by creating a beautiful media room in what is essentially a sun room. With windows and glass doors on three of the four walls, and the client not wanting any disruption to the views and the relaxing environment, the installer had to make sure that all equipment was as hidden as possible, and performed well, despite the various challenges this room presented. Both the projector and screen were fully recessed into the ceiling. At the touch of a button on the Crestron system, the projector and screen lower, allowing the client to watch any video source in the house, the curtains and blinds close, and the lights dim to the preferred brightness. The surround sound system consists of directional in-ceiling speakers, which are perfectly aligned to allow for a great experience.

Philharmonic AV The owners of a Victorian terrace house requested Philharmonic AV to install a media room, which would accommodate the whole family. To satisfy everyone, both audio and video had to be exceptional. To deliver audio that would achieve an immersive movie experience, as well as spine-tingling musical escapism, the installer chose a 5.1 Artcoustic surround sound system and an Arcam AVR. Philharmonic AV installed a Panasonic 60” plasma display, as it was the last plasma model made, and is still perceived to offer one of the best HD images. The end result is not only a system that operates beautifully on a technical level, but also a dedicated space in which the family can enjoy their favourite music and movies.

Seven Integration The brief for this project was a discreet, high performance media room that would also double up as a guest bedroom – an unusual request. The biggest challenge was the installation of the rack. The depth of the rack, and the request for it to be hidden away, meant that it had to be located within the bed/wardrobe space. A pull out Middle Atlantic rack was specified and located at a height of 2.5 metres. Seven Integration ensured that its location had adequate extraction and ventilation connected to the main building system. As the space was doubling up as a guest room, Seven Integration also had to ensure that the equipment remained silent. To take care of this, the installer fitted a Tripp Lite IP controlled PDU, which enabled the client to easily disable any equipment that emitted an audible noise.

The installer had to block out the windows and remove sections of the wall to accommodate speakers and subwoofers in this small room. The layout was re-orientated to enable the installer to hide the projector under the stairs. For the video aspect, a 4K Sony projector and screen were installed.

Control4 and DMX controlled RGB dimmable ribbon strips were included to provide the right lighting for a cinema experience. The left and right speakers were cleverly positioned, to provide optimum listening for the client. The Big Picture wanted to provide sufficient ventilation for the projector unit, to ensure the on-board Sony fans always run at a minimum, offering near-silence in the cinema room.

Audio Visual Gurus Not many clients ask for a cinema to be themed around their comic book hero, so it was a new concept for Audio Visual Gurus, when they were asked to create a Spiderman room. Apart from the design elements that included custom made spider emblems and spider webs, the installer utilised a great selection of products to deliver a quality cinema room. Sound was of high importance in this project, so Audio Visual Gurus used the Audyssey set up to comply with Dolby recommendations. Careful consideration was given to the distances between the speakers, the prime listening positions and screen height. The screen was installed at a comfortable height to accommodate the two rows of seats.

Art Cinema | 3Logic

For this homeowner, a serious cinema connoisseur and movie enthusiast, expectations were high. Art Cinema | 3Logic was to provide a solution that was nothing less than flawless in terms of acoustics, sound and picture. In this new build property, the home cinema had to act as the centrepiece feature. With this in mind, the home cinema experience is stretched across three rooms. The first is the entrance which perfectly conveys a traditional, Hollywood cinema ticket booth before moving into the lobby, a bar area where all equipment is concealed within the rack. The bar area is also a multi-room audio and visual zone, allowing the screening and sound from the cinema room to be previewed at all times so viewers never have to pause or miss a moment

when topping up on refreshments. Finally, and most importantly, acoustically treated doors from the bar lead to the impressive home cinema. This room, as requested in the brief, was treated acoustically, eliminating all acoustic imperfections, filling the room with absorbing panels. Bass traps are positioned in every corner and the floor and ceiling are covered with specially treated fabric. Assuming the client will want to align the top-class home cinema with new technologies, Art Cinema | 3Logic ensured this room was future-ready in preparation for a 4K projector. Crestron control connects the cinema to the rest of the house, allowing for lighting, security, energy management and monitoring to be controlled from a dedicated user interface.

The solution from Ashway Smart Homes was a 7.2 surround sound system which could be upgraded to Dolby Atmos. The LCR speakers were positioned behind a 3m acoustically transparent fixed frame projector screen. This sized screen was within the throw ratio of the chosen projection and still allowed for the two in-wall subwoofer boxes to sit either side of the screen. Ashway Smart Homes created a lighting solution that featured a special recess for the RGB LED strips to be housed in. Control4 was the selected system of choice to operate the whole room. This allowed the cinema to link in with other elements in the property.

An elegant and well thought out cinema room which exceeds the client’s expectations MACBEE Pvt. Ltd’s main goal for this cinema was to get it technically as close to reference level as possible. As the owner of a chain of multiplexes, the client was particular with his requests – fit as many seats in as possible, and install the largest screen the room will allow.

The Vutec screen selected met the brief, with just one finger space left between the wall and the screen. Due to the Christie DCI projector being on the louder side, MACBEE Pvt. Ltd designed a shelf in the equipment room to fit it in and included extra fans for cooling. For the audio, MACBEE Pvt. Ltd designed a 7.1 system, including eight JBL Synthesis S4S subwoofers, eight surround sound speakers and LCR. MACBEE Pvt. Ltd used its own in-house software to provide a custom GUI, which is easy to use and minimalist, as the client requested.

MACBEE Pvt. Ltd was able to facilitate 15 seats in the room. With so many seats, the right lens and screen size were imperative.

The end result is an aesthetically pleasing space, which provides top quality AV, and has enough seating for fifteen viewers.

The combination of formal and informal settings was required in this new build project, and resulted in Lifestyle Technologies collaborating with an interior designer to provide the perfect blend of technology and design. The first stage saw Lifestyle Technologies design a control system which included Lutron HomeWorks QS for lighting, Crestron thermostats for heating, and a Coolmaster interface for cooling. The second stage was focussed on the entertainment element. Lifestyle Technologies provided 11 individual listening zones, including invisible speakers in the formal areas of the house and stylish environmental speakers

featured on the veranda and in the pool area, to allow for a party atmosphere. The same kind of thought was given to the lighting, and pre-sets were arranged for different areas in the house. An astronomic time clock system automatically adjusts the lighting and blinds for different times in the day. In the basement, a Vivitek HD projector and a 92” motorised screen, Audica LCR soundbar, Cabasse satellite speakers and subwoofer provide the client with a cinematic experience, while a TV behind the projector screen provides more casual viewing. The specified products, placement and installation all contributed to Lifestyle Technologies meeting the client’s brief. Also, the strategic placement and sophisticated GUI programming was self-explanatory and only a few minutes of training was enough to bring the client up to speed with the system.

Cornflake Cornflake has delivered a highly reliable home automation installation that allows the client to sync data, music, security and video between his two properties. To achieve this, the installer designed an Enterprise Grade network, allowing the greatest flexibility and operability between the two homes. With the client requesting that the house be ‘weekend ready’ on arrival, Cornflake allowed for remote access, which enables the homeowner, or the installer themselves, to get the house ready at a touch of a button. With security and energy efficiency both being important on this project, lights and blinds can be set remotely to deter opportunists, while an energy efficient system clicks into operation and gently powers down all devices that are noncritical to the property upkeep.

TwentyTwo Integration The brief that TwentyTwo Integration received from their property developer client was for a system that includes a user friendly control system, Lutron lighting, whole house audio, HD video distribution to five screens, comprehensive intruder alarm, robust data/telephone networks, structured cabling and a home cinema. A Crestron system utilises iPads for control throughout the property. It’s extremely intuitive to use and neatly incorporates all the AV requirements of the end users. From each iPad, the user can control all the music sources, including radio, Spotify and a centralised music server. When walking through the apartment, there is minimal sign of the equipment installed, as TwentyTwo Integration made it a priority to hide the majority of the equipment within well ventilated custom built cupboard spaces.

West London AV Solutions Ltd The refurbishment of this London apartment provided West London AV Solutions Ltd with several technical challenges, but these were all overcome due to the expertise of the installer. With the client requesting an easy and intuitive system which would integrate the heating, lighting, air conditioning, and the AV equipment, West London AV Solutions Ltd began with a Crestron system. Within the installation, the installer integrated the AC system by adding a Coolmaster interface adapter to the existing air conditioning system, while the heating was integrated using a North Commander interface. New Lutron switches were installed and added to the existing Lutron HomeWorks installation, and incorporated within the Crestron system.

This unique building was transformed from a tribunal court into a top floor penthouse, with a private golf course on the roof. Woelf was contracted to install a system which the client, a real estate agent, could showcase to his partners, colleagues and friends. Control4 was selected for this project due to the possibility of integrating it with the KNX lighting, SIP intercom and Sonos multi-room audio. Woelf was responsible for integrating the lighting, keypads, multi-room AV, heating, security, intercom and blind control. The

installer achieved all this, as well as automating the owner’s personal elevator. When he leaves the loft, the elevator automatically comes to the 5th floor and opens itself. In the kitchen, a moveable glass wall was installed behind the gas fire to hide devices such as the toaster and juicer. This was controlled via the automation system. The entire building works with a SIP communication system. Woelf integrated the system into the automation platform to enable the client to use the multi-room speaker as a door bell. He is able to contact the concierge at ground level to open the doors to allow visitors in. The end result is a property which is 100% fully integrated. Besides the normal solutions, Woelf has gone one step further, to achieve something truly unique for this client.

Lighting control was provided via Lutron HomeWorks QS, including 200 lighting circuits and colour change control for the gym, wine store and swimming pool. SONA also utilised contact closures from the lighting control system to control the vehicle gates and garage doors. Three entertainment areas were created in the property – one for gaming, one for TV watching and the third for a cinema experience. For this reason, SONA ensured that in all rooms, except the media room, the televisions were hidden when not in use, and discreet in-ceiling speakers were installed. The system is cleverly set up to respond to the environment, by adapting the lighting scenes depending on the time of day. iPads are the main control interface in this property. Each family member has their own pass code access into the system. Security was one of the most important aspects to this project. Robust CCTV cameras cover the entire property, along with a door entry system, and remotely operated gates. Connected by fibre, a discreet rack was installed in each location guaranteeing top-quality AV in both houses at all times, and providing the client with simple control from either end on any device. Having worked with Gulfcraft for over three years, Archimedia has an excellent understanding of their needs. Unlike projects where the system is being designed for someone with particular requirements, this project is for a future buyer, so the brief remained straightforward – install a system which adds value to the yacht, and can be expanded and customised for the future owner. Reliability and ease of use were paramount on this project, and all yacht installations, as the installer wants to avoid service needs whilst the yacht is at sea. Archimedia opted for Savant for both control and AV switching, while Kordz HDBaseT extenders were used for HDMI distribution. To ensure audio can be heard on the deck, marine-grade outdoor speakers from Sonance were installed, while inside, high quality audio is courtesy of Bowers & Wilkins speakers. To suit the interior design and to maximise the available space, Archimedia installed Mirror TVs in the bedroom suites.

Archimedia Archimedia completed another successful yacht install for Gulfcraft. The system includes Savant control, AV switching and AV distribution, a Kaleidescape movie server, Humax satellite receivers and Apple TVs. The installer specified Sonance outdoor speakers, and Bowers & Wilkins indoor speakers. Archimedia installed 5.1 and 7.1 surround systems, thanks to an inceiling sub from Sonance. A drop down screen was installed on the sun deck to provide outdoor entertainment, while internally, flat panel TVs were used. Archimedia opted for iPads as the main user interface, which connect through a robust Ruckus wireless network. An Ihiji remote monitoring system allows complete visibility of the installed systems wherever the yacht is located.

The brief was for each flat to be “all singing and dancing” as far as technology was concerned, with each flat being identical in technological capabilities, but slightly different in layout. The intention was to ensure that each of the individual flats had the edge over other similar properties in the area. With the properties being sold off plan, installing the correct infrastructure for the future was the key requirement for Grahams. This included wiring for data, TV with fibre satellite system, multi-room audio including on-wall touch panels, internal security with panic buttons and HVAC. All apartments meet and exceed the CEDIA Recommended Wiring Guidelines which, has helped Grahams enormously with upgrading apartments once they were sold.

Security and access control were paramount, so Grahams gave careful consideration to the type of door entry system, to ensure this could be easily integrated. In the end a BPT XIP system was chosen. A Lutron HomeWorks QS system was installed in the penthouse flat to offer full control of the lighting within the flat, including control of blinds and the lighting on the 270 degree terrace. In the show flat, the Lutron keypads are programmed with simple functionality allowing the estate agents to quickly and easily show off the apartments. Because of the high level and correct balance of technology deployed by Grahams, this has allowed these beautiful apartments to achieve maximum market values for the developer.

In a room that was too small to stand far enough back to photograph the racks in one image, Cornflake built four bespoke tall racks to house and safeguard the huge myriad of boxes required to power this fully automated new home. The project team drew on many years of experience and created a “blueprint” for all future projects with this scheme. From the system design to the rack itself, every last detail was carefully considered and thought through. Not least servicing, with the racks built using 90° pivots, ensuring easy future access as they can all be quickly swung around in order to reach the rear cables. All termination is to one point for neatness with incoming infrastructure terminated at an in-wall rack, which Cornflake built - and can test - off site, a decision which greatly sped up the install process. The racking uses a bespoke horizontal cable tray between the racks to allow for full cable management, plus two in-wall termination racks were used for patch panels and to save on interlinks and space. It all looks exceptionally neat and functions particularly smoothly.

This project is a creative mix of a classical Georgian townhouse linked to a very contemporary mews. The client and architect requested a restrained sympathetic scheme for the Georgian part of the house, and a fun, dynamic environment for the studio, gym and sauna in the modern mews. The lighting, like the rest of the technology, needed to be discretely integrated and simple to use.

The lighting scheme flows through the house from the bespoke 'modern take on a classic' lamp at the front door to the edgy colour-changing entrance into the mews. Decorative pieces This project highlights what can highlight key areas in the be achieved with both classic and Georgian townhouse, architectural lighting is contemporary lighting discretely installed into the fabric of the building and interior detailing and custom solutions are used for the entrances, the mews and the party terrace. In the Mews entrance and the gym area, Brilliant Lighting used LED backlit sheets of opaque white glass. The light source used, and the construction detailing means that the light is incredibly soft and fluid, completely transforming the spaces without ever feeling as though you're looking at a light source. Brilliant Lighting used the same principles on the mews stairs, where the step risers contain striking but low glare light sources.

The tiny roof terrace is a party space, so the installer used a combination of functional warm white light and incredible inset 'ripples' of colour in the decking. The decking fittings give a soft glow, and have been sited, cabled and programmed to ripple with a fluid colour cycling pattern across the length of the terrace.

Cornflake The brief was to design a flexible lighting scheme to suit a high-end, three storey family retreat. The lighting scheme had to be functional but fun, while complementing the quality of materials and livening up textures and colours. Cornflake’s lighting design was all about controlling the perception and level of light in both the interior and exterior spaces. The team designed an intelligent, flexible scheme using the Lutron HomeWorks control system, which allows the lighting to be changed at the touch of a button. Energy-efficient LED technology meets the requirements of the Part L building regulations. The lighting system is intuitive and powers down by itself when not needed. Within an hour of the homeowner leaving the property, the lights power down and/or switch off to save energy and running costs.

Habitech Ltd

An informative course that provides attendees with a better understanding of good networking practices in CI The ProNet course aims to provide CI engineers with a comprehensive understanding of the importance of networking and how to deploy a reliable network in a modern smart home.

Habitech Ltd Unit K The Loddon Centre, Wade Road, Basingstoke, Hampshire, RG24 8FL, UK +44 (0)1256 638500 www.habitech.co.uk

Habitech Ltd discusses the importance of demarcation in responsibility between the ISP, installer and customer. After this, the presenter trains installers on how to work with existing broadband services and integrate them into a robust network environment.

All aspects of networking, including broadband provisions of all types, routing, switching, load balancing, failover, VPNs, VLANs and wireless are covered. To ensure that attendees get the best out of the course, each session is tuned to the capabilities of the audience. Practical tests are held throughout the day, which also allows the presenter to ensure that what is being taught is understood.

The entire stage 1 training session is completed within the day. At the end of the day, attendees take a short test, which is designed to recap the topics covered. They can make use of their notes at this point, which encourages them to look up information so that they know where to find it in the future. To conclude the session, the presenter asks each attendee a question, and then discusses the answer in an open forum.

AWE The one-day AWE Foundation Workshop is aimed at the less experienced residential installer, electricians, independent retailers and any other newcomers to the industry. The Foundation Workshop focusses on the fundamentals of custom installation. Uniquely, as well as important background and theory, there is a heavy bias towards the essential skills and knowledge required for a variety of tasks that smart home installers will be faced with on a regular basis in a hands-on workshop. Starting with basic health and safety advice and do’s and don’ts of custom install, the course then progresses into the practical sessions. A variety of tasks await course delegates, from neatly and safely placing an in-ceiling speaker between joists and mounting a TV bracket, to reliably terminating and testing CAT 5/6 network cables.

The five-day certification course takes an in-depth look at why KNX has become the world's only open standard for building control and automation. The tutor’s wealth of knowledge means that the course is packed with additional knowledge, making the course by far the most comprehensive KNX course in the UK. Each of the attendees has access to their own practical kit for the week and the diverse range of participants on the courses means great networking opportunities. Westbourne Grove Legacy Upgrade // INSTALLER

H&H Audio Visual Ltd

The client approached H&H Audio Visual Ltd with the view to replace their legacy 6 zone Niles multi-room audio system with something more up to date, and upgrade the existing composite video switcher, TVs and video sources to HD. They required a multiroom audio system that would allow access to internet based radio and music services via smartphones and iPads, but also in-wall keypads for volume and to access their favourite stations. With no renovation work taking place, the installer faced the challenge of not being able to get any new cabling in, and the existing cabling was extremely limited. The Niles keypads used a single UK back box and the existing cabling was not suitable for reuse, so another way to provide the necessary keypad control in each room was required. The existing equipment cupboard was also very small, so the equipment had to be specified carefully to ensure it would fit. To power the existing in-wall and in-ceiling

speakers, H&H Audio Visual specified two Nuvo P3100 professional grade 3 zone stereo amplifiers. Taking up only 1U of space, each fitted into the cabinetry perfectly and allowed for smartphone/tablet controlled internet streaming. The old televisions and SD sources were replaced with Samsung Smart TVs, two new Sky+HD boxes, two Apple TVs and a Blu-ray player. By using a WyreStorm HD over single coax extender set, HD video was sent from the equipment cupboard to each TV. The installer specified an RTI control system because of its flexibility and customisability. Two RTI T1-B+ handheld remotes work in conjunction with a custom designed iPad interface to give control of all equipment.

the lack of cabling and existing back box size, they were the perfect solution for audio control. Custom RTI drivers were used to allow the RTI processor to pick up the Rako button presses and activate the client’s chosen radio stations. From each keypad, the client has easy access to their favourite radio stations and also volume control and the ability to power on/off each zone. H&H Audio Visual’s innovative design meant that they could achieve the required outcome, without any intrusive cable chasing and decorative works.

To maintain the highest audio reproduction within this system, distribution was done via AES/EBU. A Digital Detangler was employed to accept all incoming digital audio sources at the rack, and route them via AES to local Devialet amplifiers. Seven Integration needed to build a Control4 driver for the Detangler and integrate it with the Control4 system and Lutron wall keypads to provide a simple operation. RS232 needed to be converted into RS485 to integrate with the Detangler. Direct sources such as Radio 4 are engraved onto the Lutron keypad, which means that the client can switch a room on from a single hard button.
