Frequently Asked Questions I am already CEDIA Installer Level 1 certified. Does the new structure make my certification old and not relevant any more? Absolutely not! Our certifications must evolve and grow in scope. Your CEDIA Installer Level 1 certification will remain totally relevant and active as long as your CEU requirements are met. I am a systems designer and never install on-site. Do I still have to take the ‘Installer’ certifications before going for ESD1? Though we do not require ESD1 candidates to have an EST certification, it is highly recommended that all ESD1 candidates are already EST2 (or Installer Level 1) certified. EST2 contains much more than just ‘installation skills’ and forms the technical foundation for all higher levels of CEDIA certification Are there any new CEU requirements for the new certifications? Our requirement that all certified individuals retain their certified status by earning 30 CEU (Continuing Education Units) during the three years following passing their certification exam will not change and is the same for all levels of certification. In addition, if a higher level of certification is passed within the three year period, the CEU requirement is reset to 30 points needed from the date of passing the new certification. This will keep ALL CEDIA certifications held current.

exempt me from the exams? CEDIA certification is the ONLY program that has been developed specifically for the residential custom integration and installation market. To promote our membership to specifiers and consumers as having the highest level of competence and professionalism in the marketplace, it is necessary for us (as it is for ALL construction industry professionals) to show that as an industry we have specialised qualifications that relate directly to the work that we are doing both on-site and in the office. Whilst other academic qualifications will certainly help individuals study for our programs, we are unable to award any credit towards our certifications from any previous programs that have been passed. I am a newcomer into the industry. Where should I start? We offer a one-day course entitled Intro to Residential CI and Integration. This course is not technical but introduces and discusses all the different ways into the industry for both individuals who wish to gain employment with a company, or those who wish to set up their own company. On completion of the day, you will have a good understanding about what your next step is as well as understanding the necessary skill sets and routes to attaining them.

I have been in the industry for over 10 years and hold a Masters in Electronic Engineering. Does this

How can I get more information and book your training courses and certifications? All of our courses and exams are bookable online at www.cediaeducation.com. Please contact the CEDIA office if you require any further information or if you wish one of our education staff to give you a call and discuss your options. Is EST2 ‘recognised’ by external organisations? Although the EST2 certification is a comprehensive in-house identification of competency it is now recognised by the JIB (Joint Industry Board) and the ECA (Electrical Contractors Association). We have been approved for an ECS Home Technology Integrator card which will entitle the holder to work on a building site in the UK. Passing the EST2 exam and the JIB Health and Safety exam entitles you to the Home Technology Integrator card. Are you business courses only for business owners? No. Business awareness is very important for every employee, especially in the small business sector. The more people who understand how to make profit in a business will mean the business is more likely to make profit. Let’s Make Money is centred around the business plan and profit planning so would appeal to both the business owner and those who are financially responsible for a business. Standardising the business model looks at ways of introducing recurring revenue streams so would therefore be applicable to all.
