Mr. Cub
a FeMale Governor

ecently Ernie Banks, the greatest baseball player to have ever come from Dallas, was featured in a length article in a local daily newspaper. The article talked about how Ernie, a product of our local school system, starred for the Chicago Cubs. It also talked about the role that I played in identifying young Ernie, encouraging him and introducing him to major league baseball. When he went on to greatness with the Chicago Cubs, I was thrilled to no one. I knew that he could do great things on the baseball field and I knew that he only need a little bit of encouragement and that is what I did. He was a shy kid who had no idea how great he could become. He was well mannered and grew up in a good home. Ernie showed the fans of Chicago and those of the National League how great talent from Dallas could perform. Whenever he went to the plate, the folks in the stands could expect a home run, at the very least a hit. Ernie did not disappoint the people of Chicago and he did not let us down here in Dallas. There were those who said that he would never make it, that he did not have enough power or enough speed. But Ernie proved them wrong. He was determined to play well for his team and to make the people of Dallas proud of him. I was thrilled that he did and I was grateful to play a part in his climb to greatness!
here is talk that a woman is going to run for Governor of the state of Texas. She is Wendy Davis and she is a state senator from Fort Worth who made national headlines during the recently concluded legislative session in Austin. I believe that she should run and I am hopeful that she becomes the state’s chief executive. It has been a long time since a woman, Ann Richards, led our state. She did a great job for the men and women of Texas and made us proud. Perhaps it is time that a woman once again becomes the top banana in Austin. Perhaps a female touch will bring about the stability and sanity that state government seems to be in need of. Women have always been good at governing. By nature, we are not as aggressive as men and we seem to be more reasonable when it comes to conflict resolution. We bring a different intellect and a different manner of approaching problems to the table. It is a skill that some men have not learned as of yet. There are those who say that Davis cannot win a state-wide race. But there were those who made the same argument when Richards ran. Nothing is impossible in state politics and that is why I am encouraging her to take the plunge and go for it. I am not impressed with any of the announced candidates and it is not because they are men. It is because they are singing the same old tune and I believe that Texas needs a new song, and that Wendy Davis will sing it for us. She has said that she will make an announcement on October 3rd. It is my hope that she says that she is going for the brass ring.

In an investigation it was found that Miles has violated district policy and has worked to publicly disparage the school board. It is also reported that Miles was involved in writing a resignation letter for an administrator that was leaving. In the letter it is alleged that it was disparaging to the school board members while praising the Miles. It is reported that he has also violated the terms of his contract as superintendent by interfering in a service contract award.

There has already been two meeting to discuss the report and board trustee Lew Blackburn has said that he expects that there will be another meeting to talk about possible consequences for Mile. Blackburn has said that Miles violation of policy could be grounds for termination. “We expect all of our employees to follow policy,” Blackburn said. “If we allow some to get away with policy violations, we have to assume we’ll allow others to.” Miles is quoted saying, “I have to admit that in moments of weakness I get frustrated and the negativity takes its toll. I’m here and I’m committed to the kids of Dallas ISD and its 160,000 students. I’m not going anywhere.” Miles also echoed statements he made in an email to trustees last week. He said that there “are several things I could have done better” and that he is prepared to reset his working relationship with them to move forward. He said he wants to find ways to move forward that are agreeable to the board and the public.

COMPOSTING NUTRIENTS FOR A HEALTHY BODY
Part 2 of 2 Greetings: ast week, we began our discussion on composting, which is one of the basics of growing an organic herb, vegetable, and fruit garden. I decided to compost because I want to save money on fertilizer and I want my herbs, vegetables, and fruit trees to have nature’s best organic enriched soil food, and the least amount of toxins. In addition, I want to spend less time watering my plants. I purchased a closed-bin composter for $180 at a local hardware store and put in the three main ingredients: • Browns (provide carbon) - dead leaves, branches, and twigs. • Greens (provide nitrogen) - grass clippings, vegetable waste, fruit scraps, tea grounds, and coffee grounds. • Water (provide moisture) – to help break down the organic matter for compost development. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), these are the items you should not to compost and why: • Black walnut tree leaves or twigs - Releases substances that might be harmful to plants.
L
{ HEALTH WISE }
• Coal or charcoal ash - Might contain substances harmful to plants • Dairy products (such as butter, milk, sour cream, yogurt and eggs) - Create odor problems and attract pests such as rodents and flies. • Diseased or insect-ridden plants - Diseases or insects might survive and be transferred back to other plants. • Fats, grease, lard, or oils - Create odor problems and attract pests such as rodents and flies. • Meat or fish bones and scraps - Create odor problems and attract pests such as rodents and flies. • Pet wastes (such as dog or cat feces, and soiled cat litter) - Might contain parasites, bacteria, germs, pathogens, and viruses harmful to humans. • Yard trimmings treated with chemical pesticides - Might kill beneficial composting organisms. Two common types of composting methods are: In-Vessel Composting and Aerated Static Pile Composting. What’s the difference between them? In-Vessel Composter (closed-bin), is putting compost material inside a insulated, covered container. I chose this method because I didn’t want to see the waste, nor did I want
flies and an unpleasant odor where the composter was placed. This method allows me to control the environmental conditions – temperature, moisture, and air flow. My composter turns and vibrates. I use a pitchfork to turn the material inside, once a week. The only time I smell an odor is when I open it. So, I wear a mask when I turn the material. InVessel Composters are used year-round in any type weather. This method is more expensive, but neater, cleaner, and quicker. Conversion of organic material to compost takes one to three months. The second common method of composting is Aerated Static Pile Composting. The organic waste is mixed together in one large pile. To aerate (air) the pile, layers of loosely piled bulking agents (such as, wood chips and shredded newspaper) are added so that air can pass from the bottom to the top of the pile. The pile is covered with tarp (heavy plastic), to prevent water from evaporating. The key to this method involves proper ventilation -- air flowing through the organic material rather than turning of it, like in the In-Vessel Composter method. Since there is no turning, this method requires careful monitoring to ensure that the outside of the pile heats up as much as the core (middle). This is the least expensive method, but you run the risk of a strong smell and files and rodents. For this method, it would be best to have a huge backyard and enclose the area with brick or metal beams. Useable compost is produced in about a year.
{ PRAYER CLOSET } by: rev. ClarenCe henDerson id you ever wonder what the safest place in the world is? A Fallout Shelter? A Bank Vault? A Bomb Shelter? Perhaps a prison surrounded by an army? Well, we can find the answer in Psalms 91. According to Psalms 91, the safest pace in the world a shadow. In particles it must be the shadow of the Almighty. In verse 1 “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” and in verse 4,”He shall cover you with his Feathers and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.” According to Hebrews 10, we have an open invitation to come right into the presence of God and dwell in the secret place – under His wings. And remember when the shadow is God you are in the will of God, and that is a safe place to be.

eptember marks Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Prostate cancer is the second leading cancer killer in men (behind lung cancer) and is among the most common cancers for men living in the United States. This particular cancer continues to take a devastating toll on thousands of lives every year. According to University of Colorado Hospital, one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during his lifetime. Nearly 218,000 men are diagnosed with the disease each year and approximately 32,000 men die from it.
S
While the methods of treating and detecting prostate cancer are much better now than they were even 10 years ago, both men and women have to stop being embarrassed when talking about prostate health and get actively involved in making sure our family members, friends and communities are aware of the benefits of screening and early detection.

While the causes of prostate cancer are still unknown, men with certain risk factors may be more likely to develop the disease. Most men who suffer from prostate cancer are over the age of 65; those whose fathers, brothers, or sons have had prostate cancer are also at greater risk. Prostate cancer is especially prevalent among African American men, who experience both the highest incidence and the highest mortality rates of prostate cancer. According to the Mayo Clinic, prostate cancer may not cause signs or symptoms in its early stages. There are many wonderful organizations and local healthcare professionals that are providing free screenings in various parts of the Metroplex this month as well as community health fairs throughout the year. You may also visit the National Cancer Website at www.Cancer.gov to learn the warning signs of this disease. Early detection plays a very vital role. During National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, let us remember those we have lost to prostate cancer and renew our commitment to preventing, detecting, and treating this terrible illness.

More Massive Gun violenCe eruPts by: barbara Mallory CaraWay | he country once again expressed disbelief as news report of another massive gunfire massacre unfolded in the Nation’s Capital last Monday. Soon after 8:00 am, 34 year old Aaron Alexis used his security clearance to enter a Washington, D.C. Navy Yard, reportedly went into a bathroom on property, assembled his shotgun and went on a shooting spree that left twelve people dead and He was killed in a shoot-out with police. Alexis had recently moved to Washington to work at the Navy Yard as a tech with The Experts a Hewlett Packard subcontractor updating computer systems. He previously worked as a full time reservist at Ft. Worth’s Naval Air Station from 200 to 2011. Even though no motive has been clearly established at this time, it’s being reported that Alexis suffered from several mental health and personal issues that may have contribute to his melt down. This shooting highlights several high profile public shooting within the last few years. Last month Nidal Hassan an Army psychiatrist was convicted and sentenced to death for the 2009 Fort Hood shooting in Killeen, Texas. That incident left thirteen dead and 30 injured. Others remembered the December 2012 Newtown, Conn. shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School that killed 20 children and six adult staff people. Adam Lanza, 20 years old committed suicide as first responders arrived. And then there was the July 2012 Colorado Cinemark Movie Theater shooting at the midnight premiere of Batman- the Dark Knight Rises that killed 12 and wounded 70. James Eagan Holmes is awaiting trial in that case. The 2007 Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia (VirginiaTech) massacre orchestrated and executed by Seung-Hui Cho a student on the campus. Cho committed suicide. Alexis and Seung-Hui Cho both had been treated for mental health issues. There are countless other f i r e a r m shootings involving several people losing their live that never hit the mass media. In each case there goes out a call for stricter gun laws that included stricter background checks and ban on certain types of guns and assault weapons. But in addition to looking at gun laws, we need to examine the root causes of why there is some much violence in America. There’s firearm violence, against women, violence against men, violence against children, violence when robbery is attempted, bullying car-jacking violence, cyber-violence, all sorts of violence. Why? The United States is one of the richest nations in the world but we have the highest prison populations in the world. Why? Violence is rising at a pandemic rate in our communities. We must change directions in the way we view this issue. We must not just examine violence not just as a crime problem but a public health issue. One that requires resources and solutions that will address the root causes of what drives people to commit crimes against persons, property and themselves. The solutions should include both mental health and public safety strategies. This approach will give us solutions that will save jobs, our neighborhoods and most of all precious lives. Barbara Mallory Caraway served six years in the Texas House of Representatives and eight years as a Dallas City Councilmember.
eace is best described as freedom from conflict, violence and war. Yet, as we look around our communities and our world today, we cannot say that we are at peace. Brutal conflicts exist in nearly every part of the globe. Yet, the struggle to bring about a world in which peace reigns must continue and begin, I believe, in the hearts and minds of women. Twelve years ago when I conceived the organization named “A World of Women for World Peace,” I believed that the end of human conflict was not only necessary, but that it was possible. In my heart I knew that women, who bring life into the world, could reform the societies in which we live. On September 21st women and men around the world are asked to observe the “International Day of Peace,” which was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1981. On that day, people are requested to acknowledge the need for a world without war, and to study issues that are related to peace such as ending hunger, providing educational opportunities for children and empowering those who are powerless. In reality, we have no viable choice other than to seek a peaceful world. The human and economic costs of war are enormous. The victims of conflict include children who are killed by land mines, and women that are raped and widowed. The senseless suffering that war and conflict cause must cease. We cannot allow it to continue. In my travels throughout the world
P
www.dfwelitenews.com
and across our own country I have met with legions of women that understand the depravity and turmoil that war and human conflict causes. They understand that disputes can be resolved with understanding and compassion rather than with weapons. It was Eleanor Roosevelt, one of the most progressive first ladies to ever live in the White House, who implored the world on the eve of World War II to turn away from the destruction that war brings. Urging women to take the lead in resolving conflict, she said “If we want peace, we must fight for it. If our civilization is to survive, our people must turn to love not as a doctrine, but as a way of living.” Mrs. Roosevelt understood the important role that women played in creating a peaceful world. If she were alive today she would be standing with me, and with women who understand that our very survival as human beings depends on them, and the role they play in the pursuit of peace. We must live the words of the young female Middle Eastern activist, Malala, who after being shot in the head and left for dead by terrorists said, “I truly believe that the only way we can create global peace is through educating not only our minds, but our hearts and our souls.”

offering God had instructed him and Abel to do; Abel did and his offering was accepted. Cain tried to bring to God, what he decided to give and it was rejected. Point: God does not compromise his standards for ANYBODY! The Word tells us that Jesus lived a sinless life and qualified to be the acceptable offering for the redemptions of SINS. Even, the Son himself obeyed the requirements of God the Father; otherwise, we would still be in our sins with no hope. God did not institute sin; therefore, he does not cause people to be born with a homosexual/lesbian orientation. That would certainly conflict with his holiness, his righteousness and his justness. How could he be just if he created or caused a person to live in a sin he forbids and will judge at the Great White Throne? Consensual conduct between willing partners is a matter of their choices and the consequences comes with the decisions and deeds. Many have been hasty to accuse Christians of condemning non-believers. Look at St. John 8:1-11. Vs. 10-11 are very important. When Jesus stood up and saw no one but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those who accused you? Has any man CONDEMNED you? She said, no man, Lord. And he said unto her, NEITHER DO I CONDEMN YOU: go and sin no more. No man can condemn another because we’re all sinners, some are saved and others are not. What another

final and permanent destination. Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but, after this the judgment. NO person is condemned in this life; judgment and condemnation is reserved for the unsaved at the Great White Throne. In this life only do people have the opportunity to make a choice between damnation and salvation because of God’s grace and Christ’s redemptive and atoning sacrifice that makes forgiveness of sins, salvation and eternal life available to who so ever wants it and asks Jesus for forgiveness? Those who advocate and support same sex unions are only encouraging those whom are actively participating in this sin and are accountable to God. They too could find themselves standing in line with those whose sins they encouraged before God at the judgment at the Great White Throne. American Airlines Golfing for Haiti by Darryl blair | uesday, January 12, 2010 Haiti was devastated by a 7.0 earthquake. This catastrophic event took the lives of more than 150,000 leveling the capital, Port a Prince and other settlements. For days, weeks and months the world came to Haiti’s aid with every resource possible but after six months only 2 percent of the impacted area had been cleared of debris. Three years later Haiti still need help to rebuild much needed community services. This year American Airlines hosted its 3rd Annual Celebrity Golf Tournament last Tuesday, September 17 at Sky Creek Ranch Golf Course in Keller. The purpose of this event was to raise funds to support the Village of Vision for Haiti’s Foundation effort to secure medical equipment as well as to provide travel for medical staff in assisting ongoing needs for Lamardelle, Haiti medical clinic. Village of Vision for Haiti Foundation (VVHF) is the nonprofit organization
T
chosen by American Airlines to partner with to make an impact in Haiti. In 2011, the inaugural year, “Help for Haiti Celebrity Golf Tournament” was a resounding success raising $81,000. Last year’s event raised $51,000 for VVHF. This year’s event raised approximately $41,000 for VVHF. The funds raised in year one was earmarked for the completion of the second floor of the medical clinic, which serves about 20,000 people of the Lamardelle community. (Currently, the nearest medical facility to Lamardelle is about 10 miles away which could take more than an hour by public transportation). Funds raised last year were designated for a visiting doctors program, to purchase medical equipment, and to assist with the ongoing needs of the clinic. There is a critical need for U.S. doctors and nurses to travel to the area to provide medical training for the locals.

{ BRINGS SPORTS } { TOLIVER’S TALENTS } by: Mark a. toliver ii | ow!!! I must admit, I was really caught up in the Alabama vs. "Johnny Football" show this past weekend. This game grabbed the attention of the entire nation. Football fans and nonfootball fans were talking about "Johnny Football" and" the Game". I was caught up in the hoopla. I really wanted to see if Alabama's defense could shut this kid down. And on the flip side of that, I wanted to see if Johnny Manziel was as good as advertised. I wanted to see if Johnny Manziel would prove that he is the best college football player of the 2013 season. But I must admit Manziel can play. Despite losing to Alabama by one touchdown, Manziel put up a Heisman like Performance. Manziel completed 28 of 39 passes for 464 yards 5 touchdowns and two interceptions. Manziel also ran 14 times for 98 yards. Manziel was nearly impossible for Bama to stop. Johnny Football also had great help from 6'5", 225-pound wide

{ BULL DOGS } by: leon siMon | he Cowboys are tied with San Francisco with 5 Super bowl wins second to the Steelers. The cowboys were clearly the team of the 90’s, but a few off the field incidents caused the Cowboy management to not draft a few guys for talent but, to draft high character guys. Thus when the Cowboys had a chance to draft Randy Moss and keep that winning mentality, they drafted a cry baby with great character, but no bull dog in him in Gregg Ellis. There are a lot of teams that try to please sports writer and social groups, by drafting guys that can go out and speak to civic groups but can’t play. They have the numbers on the wonder lick test, they have the numbers in the 40 yard dash, they have the long jump, the vertical jump, and the weight lifting, but they don’t pass the bull dog test. They say defense win championships, NOT, Bull Dogs win championships! Regardless of what side of the ball they play on. When you have guys like Bob Lily, Roger Staubach, Duane Thomas, it makes no difference what side of the ball they play on they win. When these guys leave you can replace them with guys that are bigger, faster, and maybe smarter but if they don’t have that dog you didn’t replace them, you brought in some more

out named Mike Evans. Evans finished the night with 7 receptions for 279 yards and 1Touchdown. Evans had a big time game on Saturday. After two-and-a-half games Manziel has the numbers to back up his best player in the game claim. Manziel has completed 63 of 89 passes for 984 yards and 11 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions. He has also run 27 times for 153 yards and a touchdown. Through the first games last year Manziel had completed 58 of 86 passes for 641 yards and 7 touchdowns with no interceptions. He ran 38 times for 262 yards and 5 touchdowns, Manziel stats should improve in the up coming weeks, because A&M has played the toughest game of the year. SMU and Arkansas are next up and this will give Manziel a great chance to pads his stat. Old Miss will be the first ranked team the Aggies will face and then LSU down be road. These are the only two teams that can keep Johnny Football from absolutely blowing up the stat sheet. Manziel's combination of production, recognition and strength of schedule, Manziel will find himself back in New York as a Heisman finalist. Will he win the Heisman again?? This is a question I can't answer. But I can say this," Manziel will have play-station like stats at the end of this season"!!!! Thanks for reading!! May God Bless You and Help Us Change the World!! guys. You cannot replace a Pit Bull, with a poodle even if they’re the same size. I don’t want you to confuse what I’m saying this is not an endorsement for thuggary. Championship is an attitude. Larry Bethea, and Kevin Brooks had the measurable they needed to physically play in the NFL, but they didn’t have the Bull Dog to replace Bob Lily and Jethro Pugh. You have any idea how many defensive tackle the Steelers have drafted trying to replace Joe Green, how many Quarterbacks they drafted trying to replace Terry Bradshaw, that explains the dry spell they went through until they won another super bowl. I don’t know the exact numbers at this time, but do you realize how many running back that been through Dallas trying to replace 5’ 9” Emmitt Smith. Do you realize how many quarterbacks in the league now with the exact same measurable of Troy Aikman, 6’ 5” 230, or how many wide receivers 6’21/2” 210 lbs those are very easy measurable to find but those measurable. But that wasn’t what put those guys in the Hall of Fame. The will to win and the hating to lose is what got them there, I call it Bull Dog. If you played behind Emmitt Smith your playing time would be almost zero, playing behind any running back in the league today and you will almost have as many plays as the starter. There’s not a lot of Bull Dogs in the NFL these days that why I give the Cowboys a punchers chance in the NFL, the mistake is I don’ think the Cowboys have any!!!

AAA ACADEMY MAKING A STATEMENT
}
by: roGer b. broWn | fter making history last season by becoming the first charter school to win a UIL state championship of any kind, AAA Academy will attempt to make an even bigger statement this season. As a matter of fact, the unprecedented jump from Class 1A to Class 3A is the first of its kind, according to UIL athletic director Mark Cousins. And the timing of the move also makes it historic since the next realignment is not scheduled until next February. Cousins said that AAA is the first school to request a move up two classifications. “We strongly believe in competition because it helps to build character, said Leroy McClure Jr., CEO/Superintendent of AAA Academy. However, last season, the competition was less than desired for our varsity boys’ basketball team. We received no pleasure in winning out district games by an average of 50 points.” “The spirit of fairness to build character was removed from us and our opponents. With that in mind, we made the formal request to the UIL for reclassification. When we got into this business 15 years ago, it was all about building character in the kids. ‘’ But as the old saying goes, be careful for what you ask for. In this case, AAA Academy would join District 11-3A, which features defending state champion Madison as well as region finalist Wilmer Hutchins. And, if they can somehow get past those two perennial local powers, the biggest and baddest of them all - Houston Yates – could be waiting in Austin. With that in mind, DISD assistant athletic director Goree Johnson said he is looking forward to Triple A joining the district. “We welcome them with open arms,’’ Johnson said. “I don’t have a problem with them coming into Class 3A. They (Triple A) are going to find some pretty good competition waiting for them. The way we look at it, they are just another good team joining the district. It could make for some real good rivalries after a while. We’ll just have to wait and see.’’ Johnson also acknowledged that Triple A Academy joining the district is not quite the same as Prime Prep being placed in 11-3A last year. “They (Triple A Academy) have been in the UIL before and have played under the same guidelines,’’ Johnson said. “So, in that sense right there, it’s a different deal. We’re going to have to monitor them a lot closer now that they’re in our backyard. “I talked to our coaches (Wednesday), and I know they are all excited about them (Triple A Academy) joining the district. This could be a win-win situation for all of us, and I’m looking forward to it as are our coaches and players.’’ The biggest obstacle right now appears to be putting a district schedule together. Most teams already have their schedules in place. Triple A athletic director and head boys basketball coach Tim Singleton said his pre-district schedule already was done, including a proposed national television matchup against Prime Prep. “I’m excited, and I think this

{ ENTERTAINMENT } { ROLLIN’ WITH A BROTHA } by: kevan broWninG| e had an a we s o m e time last weekend at the Dallas Reggae Festival. Food, fun, lots of families, boats and Jet Ski’s in the water, Wow! Reggae and Soca lovers had DFW "floating" on a serious eerie vibe from Lynn Creek Park at Joe Pool Lake! Everton Blender, Mad Cobra, Maxi Priest set it off, while Dallas on Watusi band more than held their own! Selector's and sound systems boomed and the munchies from The Jerk stands to the fresh pineapple drinks inside real pineapples were a trip... Yaaaaaa Mon! Errr ting be crisp, nuh mean? Are you getting one of the new IPhones? I love my Android, but may have to go for the (with contract) $99 "5C" or even the new $199 "5S"... The "5S" is really on fire, but I'll not be using my fingerprint as an unlock mode feature... Nope Apple, you cannot have my fingerprint, lol! My current fave TV show? Glad U asked! I Love that Duck Dynasty! It's a true guilty pleasure, something even the "Boyz in the Hood" are watching, helping make it the #1 show on cable TV with over 12 Million weekly viewers! Uncle Si's book is on the best seller list and a Christmas Album is in the works, lol... Just good fun, lol! Rapper Gucci Mane is claiming to have

slept with R&B stars Monica, Ciara, Fantasia, Nikki Minaj and others. The only response was from Minaj, who called him a broke hater, basically, lol! There is haterism everywhere folks, including a certain church off Ferguson where the Pastor is well liked, but some old school deacons have changed the locks on the doors. God don't like ugly and always regulates situations in his Kingdom. Hate to be on the wrong side in God's eyes, whew! I can still name the characters, including my favorite, Overton, lol! How many can you name? My partner "Bloodhound Benny" reports from New York that Queen Latifah says there's a possibility of a reunion show. That would be awesome! I'd love to know if Max's Law career took off... If Kyle married her or became her "baby daddy"? What happened with Rajean and her gold digging instincts, then there's Kim Coles innocent Sinclair... You just know she and Overton got married, lol... Well, here's hoping for a "Living Single "reunion! Can a king be a playa? King Mawatii III of Swaziland in Africa's tying the knot. The 45 year old monarch's marrying an 18 year old, who'll be his 14th wife! Guess the answer is yup! Finally, what would you do if you heard noise in your homes downstairs, investigated and found Alicia Keys and her crew having a party? Sounds crazy? That's exactly what happened in the wealth Hampton's recently. Hey, the kitchen door was unlocked, so they let themselves in and started snacking, lol! Seems Keys and crew had rented a home, but ended up at the wrong home and voila!
aaa ContinueD FroM PaGe 12 is a great move for us, Singleton said. “This will challenge our kids on a nightly basis. There are no negatives with this move. We’re looking forward to this season with much anticipation and excitement. “Our goals will remain the same, which is to win the state championship. We’re very confident in our abilities. In fact, this is a move the kids really wanted. So, they are really excited and wanted to be challenged. As far as the schedule, we play most of our non-district games against (Class) 4A and (Class) 5A schools anyway. So, we have never ducked any competition. ’’ McClure in fact, took it a step further. He said the goals of the Stallions are the same as before when they were in Class 1A, “to win the Class 3A state title.’’ After winning the Class 1A championship last March, the Triple A Academy boys were heavily booed by the fans in attendance. And afterwards, the losing coach for Mumford still declared his team as the public schools champions despite his unbeaten season being
smashed (80-54) by Triple A Academy. McClure was asked if that reaction from the crowd had anything to do with his request to the UIL for reclassification. “No,’’ McClure sternly replied. “This lets people know that we’re not just about basketball at Triple A Academy. We’re serious about the first A (Attitude) in AAA. We’re still trying to increase and raise awareness of who we are and what we’re about. “We made history last year, and we feel like there is a lot more for us to accomplish this year. It meant a lot to us to be the first charter school to win a state championship. We feel like that is only the beginning of what’s to come. We feel like things will only get better from here on out for Triple A Academy. Once again, we are excited about this challenge. But we feel that we’re up to the task at hand. I think this move will build some tremendous excitement for the basketball fans and communities in this area.’’

FroM the Pits to Praise
Cover story iMaGes FroM PaGe 10
henry nelson | Psalms 40:1:8 I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. 2. He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps. 3. He has put a new song in my mouth-- Praise to our God; many will see it and fear, and will trust in the Lord. 4. Blessed is that man who makes the Lord his trust, and does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. 5. Many, O Lord my God, are Your wonderful works Which You have done; And Your thoughts toward us Cannot be recounted to You in order; If I would declare and speak of them, They are more than can be numbered. 6. Sacrifice and offering you did not desire; my ears you have opened. Burnt offering and sin offering you did not require. 7. Then I said, "Behold, I come; in the scroll of the book it is written of me. 8. I delight to do your will, O my God, and your law is within my heart." ccasionally we all find ourselves in the pits of discouragement, depression or disappointment. A general sense of hopelessness and despair overwhelms us when we find ourselves in the pits of helpless feelings. When we are in the pits of life we need the help of God to deliver us from emotional, mental, financial, or social low predicaments. Sometimes, the Lord delivers us directly but other times, He uses certain people. Quote: I think we delight to praise

what we enjoy because the praise not merely expresses but completes the enjoyment. It is not out of compliment that lovers keep on telling one another how beautiful they are; the delight is incomplete till it is expressed. Remember that God wants to move you from the pits to praise with His mighty power to deliver. There are several lessons we can learn from David in Psalm 40 to help us move from the pits of despair to the pinnacle of praise, power and higher perspective: 1. Patiently wait on the Lord every morning in your devotions to find His overcoming help to do deliver you from emotional, mental or relation pits. We can claim the blessed promise from Isaiah 41:10, "They who wait (meditate, look to and hope in) upon the Lord, will renew their strength. They will run and not be weary they will walk and not faint." Waiting on the Lord requires discipline but also the confidence that God is greater than any problem and He wants to use these down times to draw us closer to Himself. Patience serves as a protection against wrongs as clothes do against cold. For if you put on more clothes as the cold increases it will have no power to hurt you. So in like manner you must grow in patience when you meet with great wrongs, and they will then be powerless to vex your mind." 2. Praise God in advance for His power, His deliverance and His plan to lift your head. David wrote in Psalms 121 "The glory and the lifter of my head. For you Oh Lord art a shield for me. The glory and the lifter of my head. I cried unto the Lord with my voice and He heard me out of His holy hill." Amen!
