Women in Energy

WIE

The ICER International Network

ICER’s WIE Vision: For women to have equal opportunities, be empowered and have the self-confidence to succeed. ICER’s WIE network is a growing global network open to women (and men) in ICER’s energy authorities.

WIE Story-Telling Like other sectors, women are under-represented in the energy sector. Our Women in Energy story-telling encourages women to share their trials and tribulations working in this fascinating world of energy. Know them!

Karen Morton

Director of the Energy Trade Team at the National Energy Board in Canada

Milica Vukovljak

I see more and more young women entering careers and fields of study previously dominated by men. Attracting women into this exciting sector doesn’t seem to be an issue from my standpoint. Laura Steerman

Legal Advisor to the Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) in Ireland

Energy regulation is a complex business but when I drive by a field of wind farms and my daughter bellows excitedly, “Look, there’s Mummy’s office!” I have to laugh.

Susana Ivana Cazorla Espinosa

Deputy Administrator, Office of Consumer Advocate at State of Wyoming

Gulefsan Demirbas

Head of Strategy Development Department, Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) in Turkey

Head of LPG Division at Regulatory Energy Commission of Mexico

Any time I could break away from my office, I sat through hearings, learning the special language of energy regulation; learning how important it is to have good communications skills; and learning that in the end it is all about the money -and professional relationships.

... with preparation, dedication and patience, let us continue changing the inertia so that one day differences between women and men are recognized and yet, they both can have access to the same opportunities to succeed.

I was beginning my new career with the newly appointed EMRA president, and thus I was considered by the existing staff as the president’s man (woman). So I had to overcome the challenges...
