Media Media • If they are used properly and their use is reasonable, they can give remarkable added value in the process of teaching, learning, and respond to the new requirements of our society and daily living‌
Television Television • It offers the possibility of having a window overlooking the world; • It is an easy-to-use source of information; • It allows information to circulate overcoming space-time barriers.
Mobile Mobile telephony telephony • It offers the possibility of being always reached, while being able to choose the times and methods of being reached; • It is useful in case of emergency; • It allows to take pictures and film videos with just one tool; • It allows people to browse the internet, thus becoming multimedia.
Videogames Videogames • They train problem-solving skills; • Online they allow people to create alliances and test their planning skills; • They implement coordination of eyehand movements; • They excite imagination and creativity.
Web Web • It offers the possibility of exploiting, creating and sharing materials with other people; • It allows people to be always up to date on news facts; • It allows people to carry out research on any topic of interest; • It excites creativity • It favours the learning of languages and a multicultural approach.
‌ ‌ some some information information Michela Drusian, researcher at the Department of Sociology of the University of Padua, studied a sample of 1200 boys/girls, aged between 15 and 20 years, finding that most boys/girls interviewed positively use the web, are aware of risks and traps hidden in chatrooms (lies, false identity etc.) and spend much time looking for new friends inside the communities.

• They are a good tool to make oneself known, to tell the others what we think about the world, what our style life is and what we think about the facts that happen every day.

Media and the POVEL’s sample of young people (I) The results of the questionnaires submitted within the POVEL project showed that: • the most used media is the mobile: 24% of Italian boys/girls and 33% of Belgian ones use it for longer than 7 hours a day; • the main way the mobile is used is to exchange text messages (90.7% of the sample), followed by phone calls (82%), by listening to music (66.4%) and by pictures taking (ca. 60%). A little less than one third of the sample (29%) uses the mobile to browse the Internet; • the videos filmed on the mobile are used for personal purpose by 56.3% of the sample (“he/she watches them alone”), while 33.9% sends the videos to friends. • television appears to be the only media that is used together with others: the other media are mainly used for individual purpose. • on TV young people mainly watch movies (51%) and TV series (almost 30%). • books are the least popular: 42.8% of the sample declare that they do not read any book. Within the POVEL project, the initial in-field research activity submitted to ca. 700 boys/ girls a questionnaire on: life styles, relationships with peers and adults, consumption of alcohol, drugs and use of the media

Gambling is practiced by 18% of the Spanish sample, vs. 8% of the Belgian sample, 14% of the French one and 16% of the Italian one. The most common type of videogame is the action game; Internet is much used by boys/girls: the most visited websites are Facebook, YouTube, Google, Messenger and Wikipedia; 81.7% of the total sample declared that they have a profile on a social network; On social networks, boys and girls mainly share ideas and thoughts (almost 59% of the sample) and publish pictures and videos of themselves together with friends (56.5%). 33.5 % of the sample state that they do not use any access restriction to their personal data for the protection of their privacy on social networks the use of chat is widespread among young people (56% of the sample). 326 boys/girls (equal to 47% of the sample) declared that through the chat they met people they did not know before. 115 boys/girls said that they had bad experiences when using the chat (including privacy violation and psychological violence).
