Read more Montserrat Set to Begin Long-Term Testing of Geothermal Wells Montserrat will soon begin long-term testing at one of its geothermal wells, according to Director of Public Works Ron Beardsley. The process, which he said will take about three weeks, follows the completion of Iceland Drilling Company’s work on the island. Read more 16-10-2013 ||New Geothermal Drilling to Commence this Month in Dominica More geothermal drilling will begin in Dominica in October, according to the country’s Energy Minister, Rayburn Blackmore.The company that is performing the drilling, Iceland Drilling Company, has already arrived in Dominica and will begin later this month, he said. Environmental impact assessments have been completed for the drilling of a production well in Laudat and for a re-injection well in Trafalgar. 14-10-2013 || TDC Launches Solar Energy Project TDC Group of Companies LTD has taken a major step in its thrust toward ‘going green’ with the launch of its solar energy project. On Monday (Oct 7) top officials of TDC flipped the switch on the company’s solar panel installation at the TDC Home and Building Depot at the CAP Industrial Site, St. Kitts. Read more 11-10-2013 || Operating Fourth Solar Park in Cuba The fourth solar park on a large scale in Cuba is already generating electricity on the outskirts of the eastern city of Guantanamo. Power is provided to a circuit of the municipality where there are located 6,500 state and private customers of the Local Electric Company. Read more 9-10-2013 ||Water Company to Launch Solar Power System this Week According to the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, the use of animal guts to produce biodiesel is not a new technology. However, of late there has been growing interest in “aquaticbiofuels” – producing bio diesel from fish gut. Fish oil comes from leftover waste and is mixed with methanol and other products. Read more 7-10-2013 || First JPS Net Billing Customer in Rural Jamaica Connected Managing Director of Mystic Mountain Attractions in Ocho Rios Michael Draculich became the first Jamaica Public Service (JPS) net billing customer in St Ann and rural Jamaica on October 1. Draculich will now sell surplus energy produced at his property in Old Fort Bay, near Mammee Bay to the JPS. Read more 4-10-2013 || OUR to Retender for 37MW of Renewable Capacity The first round of qualified bids to supply 115 megawatts of electricity from renewable sources fell short by one-third.The Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) said on Wednesday that it will be returning to the market with a request for bids to supply the outstanding 37 megawatts of ‘firm capacity’.
