Red Granite Ranch is located in beautiful Northern Colorado at the base of the Rocky Mountains on rolling hills of prairie grassland.

From the very beginning we began making purchases and breeding decisions that would allow us to build a herd of elite alpacas. We wanted alpacas that would pass on to their offspring good health, superior conformation, lasting fineness, density and uniformity in their fleece.

We are preparing our herd not only to be competitive in the show ring but profitable in the developing fiber market. Our goal is excellence and herd advancement with every breeding decision we make.

We have had the honor of being awarded the 2010 Futurity Small Breeder of the Year, 2012 Futurity Reserve Medium Breeder of the Year, and the 2015, 2016, and 2019 Reserve Large Breeder of the Year. We provide seed stock for sale, agisting, as well as top of the line “Proven” Herdsires in every color.

In February 1984, Stachowski Alpacas purchased 25 alpacas in Catskills, New York from the very first importation. Anthony was one of the founding fathers of the breed registry and show association. He insisted that age and sex classes be divided by COLOR. For over 38 years, Champions of all colors are found in the hundreds of rolling acres at Stachowski Alpacas.

In 1995 Mary and I joined the Peruvian Importers in selecting “the best of the best” from cooperatives in the highlands of Peru including Alianza, Accoyo, Sollocota and others. Detailed notes taken on each alpaca selected are now found on Openherd. Thousands of alpacas were evaluated each year (P3, P4, P5, P6 and CP1). Imports exhibited exceptional traits of fineness, density, uniformity, and character which catapulted my herd in the show ring and breeding barn. Stachowski Alpacas grew into a marketing powerhouse with the Peruvian Classic Alpaca Sale held each October.

Anthony also holds veterinary seminars across the country for private farms and associations including the popular “What you can do without the Vet.” These seminars include blood draw, dentistry, injection techniques, ultrasonography, foot care, skin issues, and much more!

Today Stachowski Alpacas continues to show and breed approximately 300 alpacas to banner winners. Dr Evans reported a skin biopsy resulting in a true density of 84.29 which was the most dense male suri ever measured at the time. Maxamus is also a full sibling to our stud female WLK Spectacular. Their dam and sire sold for a combined $215,000.00 to a farm in Florida, so this combination was highly sought after. Callisto is the first offspring of two of our top animals: Jupiter, a Tikanui and Dixie daughter, and Astor, a son of Pines Edge Accoyo Andretti, (Our Accoyo Pulitzer) and Kahuna’s Makani. Like his parents, Callisto is an excellent specimen of the Suri alpaca, with the hallmarks of luster, cool handle, and beautiful locking. Callisto stands tall and proud, is easy to handle, and has fiber with superb luster and lock. He brings forth the best from both parents. and would make his ancestors proud. He was classified during our most recent SHIP classification and received excellent review, with perfect scores in phenotype, lock structure, handle and more. Callisto has had an enviable show career, racking up 14 blue ribbons plus a combined six championships, reserve championships, and judges choice awards. We only consign our best! Dang! This is a hard one! Holiday was our first cria of 2022 and a huge stand out from the get go earning her the title of “one of our best”. Although she looked brown with her cria tips we were delighted when we opened her fleece and saw that she is a solid modern rose gray. Her fleece is a tightly crimped high frequency and very fine and uniform across the colors. She virtually has no spots but a very uniformly colored fleece throughout. Every time we open it we gasp! She is a big girl and very strong in her conformation. Her dam is a stunning dark silver gray, also very uniform in her colors, with an impressive show record. Her sire Sonic Shift has been a game changer for our gray program and is in the top ranking for density in medium silver gray huacaya’s biopsied by Alpaca Consulting “USA”. Holiday is a rock star! Since October 2021, H2R Velvet Equinox has been the most consistent placing male on the Happy Hounds Show String. His accolades include: five Color Champions, four Reserves and a Best B&O. Nox gets his 19.4 micron, long staple, very uniform fleece in equal parts from his parents. His extremely prepotent sire Snowmass Velvet Touché, has award-winning crias all over the World, and his dam, Snowmass Summer Sunset XX, boasted a 21.3 micron fleece at 8 years of age.
