Seismograph Dean’s Cup Competition | TTU | Best in Show Spring 2011

The intention of the project is to eliminate a site’s conditions as means for design and form characteristics; instead looking to a diagram of an event that appears free of any site conventions due to its varying locations. A seismograph in itself is a system used to diagram an event of the landscape’s features during an earthquake that is independent of any specific site. This absolves form generation being dictated by site conditions, and instead allows an event that not only diagrams itself in a form of “sketch” but also in its occurrence lays out the foundation and guidelines in the truest form of tectonic movement and manipulation.

Puzzle Doll

Prof. Chris Taylor | TTU | Land Arts Exhibition- Spring 2011

The Puzzle Doll is the investigation of the changing site conditions encountered throughout a two month period out in the field documented through changing articles of clothing captured in video. The removal and/or addition of clothing is seen not only as transitions in time but also the transitioning site conditions regarding temperature, climate, terrain, etc. As an exhibition piece the Puzzle Doll is an interactive work that shows the work both visually through video and also tactilely through the participation of the viewer.

Poetics

Prof. Bennett Neiman | TTU | Media Elective Spring 2010

great architecture makes great ruins -Aline Saarinen The industrial remains sit on a desolate, endless site. They are frames used to create depth through elemental viewports, forcing a perspective and enticing the viewer inside. The separate components of what once was, compile together to create something new in a field of nothingness. The collective mix of this newly formed mechanism splits the sloping site, enforcing its newly found formation by emphasizing this perspective through its depth. The process of the old creating new in a composition with its application into the site, coaxes viewer inspection and questioning of the hidden and revealed.

Performance Park

Prof. Ryan Murphy | RISD | Making of Design Principles 2013

Performance Park is the integration of three modes of pedestrian traffic to inhabit a sloped parking lot that is currently being used to transition from Benefit Street and South Main Street in Providence, RI. The space allows for passing pedestrians to maintain their route, ticketed guests of a performance to experience the outdoor space but maintain a separate viewing area indoors and lastly, it introduces a new group to congregate on the park spaces created through the incorporation of green roofs. performance guests pedestrian traffic accessible green space

The original route from Benefit Street to South Main Street is preserved but now allows pedestrians the opportunity to walk through a new incorporated park space. Also, pedestrians going through the site are now given the opportunity to view practice sessions taken place in the second level from ground level.

Programmatic Studies

Clerkley Academy Prof. Michael Peters | TTU | Summer 2011

Clerkley Academy is a Summer program in cooperation with Texas Tech University, AIA San Antonio and VIA Metro that gives high school students the opportunity to work on a proposed tram stop on a newly developed part of the river walk. The program included personal site investigation, architecture firm tours, a VIA Metro presentation and a campus visit to the college of architecture at Texas Tech University at which they were given access to all studio facilities to complete their proposals. The program was student led by myself and Jordan Berta.

Central Falls Public Plaza

Prof. Elizabeth Hermann Ph.D. | RISD | Summer 2014

The Central Falls Public Plaza was a collaborative design/build project with the city of Central Falls, RISD DESINE-Lab, Javeriana University, as well as students from Brown University to rethink the program for a vacant lot that would most likely have become parking. The site was once an abandoned house that had recently been demolished, the site is now a terraced, brick plaza with a stage, shaded pavillion and a mural made from tiles and glass from the contributions of the community.

Ager Ex Machina

Prof. Christian Pongratz TTU | Studio IV 2010 Partner: Kyle Meeks

The tower rises from the urban landscape of New York as a self contained ecosystem that embraces the Highline Park allowing the interplay of exterior/interior. The concept is derived from the literary device: Deus Ex Machina; the act of a problem being suddenly & unquestioningly resolved at the intervention of a new entity. The premise of the vertical farm aims to redefine the urban condition by creating sources of production amongst dense areas of consumption, i.e. the modern city.

RESIDENTIAL The uppermost levels of the tower contain penthouse condominiums for the residences of the tower. This location allows for the most appealing views of the city while still allowing access to the highline below.

GROW FLOOR The Grow Floors are the designated areas for the tower to conduct work with hydroponics and grow wheels. Harnessing the growth around the perimeter allow the plants the most access to direct sunlight .

GOAT FLOOR The Goat Floors are the zones in the tower that create living environments for the goats, whom are crucial in the facilities of the tower that use goats for their meat and milk. Goats were chosen as the resilient and efficient of the animals to be a part of this new ecosystem.

HIGHLINE LEVEL/ RESTAURANT The third level of the tower uses the highline as it’s main attractive feature for a new restaurant and bar. This level also harnesses water features to inform visitors of the aquatic farming and hydroponics that occur in the upper levels of the tower.

LEVEL 02 MARKET MEZZANINE The second level of the market creates a very open shopping space with views to the market below. The market layout is set up with triangular shaped stands that shoppers can access from all sides, while an attendant can perform food demonstrations in the center.

LEVEL 01: MARKET / RESIDENTIAL ENTRANCE The first level of the tower acts as the main entrance to the market as well as the main entrance to the coop office spaces and private residential entrance.

East Boston Waterfront Prof. Elizabeth Hermann Ph.D. | RISD | Fall 2014

This mixed-use apartment complex is a blend of public and private use facilities acting as an anchor for the surrounding community as well as a revitalization effort of this once industrial waterfront. Public program utilizes the existing community needs with the addition of athletic facilities, public library, theater, commercial kitchen, markets and different levels for subsistence and commercial farming for residents of the complex. Private residences have been organized to utilize the most of the waterfront view as well as allow access to public program without losing a sense of privacy.
