SoHo Food Market A Community Space for New York City
Process Models
A food market for the SoHo community brings people together by integrating a nutritional counseling center, social spaces for rent, and local food vendors offering produce, meats, cheeses and many other niche foods. This building incorporates multiple lounge spaces, both on the interior between the vendor stalls and the exterior. The exterior lounge spaces provide views of bustling Houston Street from above while also allowing users to feel submersed in a natural setting because of green planters on all levels.
Community Roof Garden
View from Second Floor Through Atrium
Guests follow the stairs that surround a large full-building atrium made up of asymmetrical triangles cut through the floor plates. This allows for natural light to penetrate even the bottom-most floor as well as providing a circulation path for guests to journey through the food market.

Prosthetics Research and Training Center Crossroads District, Kansas City, Missouri
This state-of-the-art facility is devoted to the innovation of prosthetics through research, development, and training. The building itself works as a “structural prosthetic by questioning how columns can be more than just devices to withstand gravity loads.

The Lehigh Portland Trail Master Plan and Expansion Project is a joint design proposal with my studio peer, Katlyn Gladson. It is a project in collaboration with Thrive Allen County, an organization which has been a driving force behind initiatives regarding quality of life, health, and regional community involvement in Allen County, Kansas. Aligning with Thrive’s overarching goals, this proposal seeks to further improve quality of life in Iola and Allen County through additions of third place and encourages healthy living through education and recreation opportunities.

Crossroads Community Dancehouse Crossroads District, Kansas City, Missouri
Through a study of the modern dance style I found that all movements can be categorized into two types: contraction and release. Contraction involves movements that require a C-like curve of the spine. The dancer curves their spine into this position and brings their limbs in toward their core. Release is a response to contraction, which returns the spine to a neutral position or opens up the chest while letting go of the limbs. This can be translated into more simplistic terms: heaviness and lightness. An audience sees a dancer’s movements from contraction to release as a transformation. Heavy forces compress the body into a contracted position and just as quickly release the limbs from the chest causing a lightness or airiness to flow through the dancer’s body. These movements create the choreography that becomes a creative piece.

Contraction and release became the driving forces behind the design for the Crossroads Community Dancehouse. These ideas played a part in many elements of the building including materiality, the mingling of lightness and darkness, and the programs of the spaces themselves. The Crossroads Community Dancehouse strives to bring dancers of all ages and levels together in the heart of the arts and culture district of Kansas City.

Two Bars Sliding Past Each Other
The connection point between the two bars sliding past each other is the main circulation path. This path divides the private crematorium spaces from the public guest spaces. It is the overall datum for which the design follows.
Municipal Crematorium Manhattan, Kansas
Section Through Columbarium
The interplay between darkness and light - seen in the circulation spaces, as well as the voided pieces of the building’s facade - can also be interpreted as a metaphor for the bittersweet emotions that one feels when a loved one passes. The definition of light can be taken literally, or it can be seen as the clarity that breaks through the depths of death and despair.
View Down Central Corridor
The journey through this corridor marks the separation between living and deceased, representative of the crossing from one life to another.
