Cembre (ÒCo struzioni elettromeccaniche brescianeÓ, the international electro-mechanical manufacturing concern based in Brescia) has prepared this presentation in order to bring our product offering to the attention of those who are not yet familiar with us and as an aide memoire for those who have already paid us a visit and know what we can do. Cembre was established in April 1969 and has been producing electrical connectors and related accessories ever since. The Chairman

Our termination products use exclusively electrolytic copper of minimum purity 99.95% Cu and aluminium for electrical purposes with minimum purity 99.5% Al. Additionally, copper terminations undergo an annealing process to optimise the structural characteristics of the metal.

Cembre produces a complete range of indirect clamping single-pole terminal blocks for commercial and industrial engineering applications, eg. power distribution and equipotential bonding. Original design features enable connections to be made with optimum reliability: – the ample connection capacity allows a number of conductors to be inserted in a terminal, even of different sections, whilst remaining fully compliant with the relevant standards – the indirect clamping optimises the contact resistance, keeping it stable over time, while the ability to disconnect conductors individually in the ZETApiù series satisfies regulatory requirements.

Cembre produces three market-leading families of tools for installing electrical terminations:
a piston, are available in manual versions or as press heads for use with a pump providing a maximum pressure of 700 bar (691 atmospheres) and despite their compact size, are capable of generating considerable force.
HYDRAULIC TOOLS: based on the “hydraulic jack” principle where oil under pressure drives 1
The manual versions comprise a pump body integrated with a toolhead for crimping or cutting, and a built-in safety valve; some have two piston travel speeds, with automatic transition from high to low speed

Our range of manual hydraulic tools includes models capable of delivering maximum forces of 45-60-80-100-130 kN.
Our family of portable battery-operated hydraulic crimping and cutting tools has enjoyed considerable recent growth and success. They facilitate working without undue strain, even in confined spaces and without power sources. 7

Cembre hydraulic press heads connect via flexible hose to pumps with a maximum working pressure of 700 bar, and come in various shapes and sizes to meet a variety of engineering requirements. They are suitable for crimping terminations up to 1200 mm2. The range of maximum forces delivered is: 80-100-130-230-450-530 kN. Cembre pumps for use with hydraulic press heads can be operated via pedal, compressed air, or mains- or battery-powered electric motor. All are equipped with a maximum pressure safety valve.

MECHANICAL TOOLS: these competitively priced tools are suitable for use in a range of settings, including control panels and plant engineering, for installing terminations on conductors with sections up to 120 mm2. They are generally made from suitably treated special steels and require minimal maintenance. For added convenience they are equipped with a mechanical ratchet to control the crimping. They are available with one or more fixed or adjustable dies.
BENCH PRESSES: well-suited to installing large batches of small-section connectors at high speed, these units require a compressed air supply, so are ideally set up as fixed work stations.

Cembre has a growing presence in the Identification & labelling market with 4 main systems covering the needs of users. – MARKINGenius® MG2 is a high resolution desktop printer based on thermal transfer technology, with a wide range of easy to use markers, legends and labels in sheet format suitable for identifying cables, devices and components in electrical control panels. – Rolly1000 thermal transfer printer with 300dpi resolution is ideal for the rapid production of high volumes of markers, legend or labels in reel format, without operator intervention.

quality certification The quality of Cembre products is assured through its quality certification. This ensures constantly high production standards. The quality assurance system, which is inspired by the ISO 9001 standard, covers all parts of the Cembre organisation. The structure of the system is set out in a manual, and the working processes are documented in appropriate procedures. Quality Control staff are involved from delivery of the raw materials right through all phases of production to the warehousing and subsequent marketing of the finished product.

Our quality control equipment is calibrated at predetermined intervals to maintain its high precision. All the data gathered is processed against statistical indices which enable action to be taken in real time to maintain product quality. A number of important multinational companies have inspected our quality system and included Cembre on their approved supplier lists.

environment Certified Quality Management System Cembre S.p.A. was awarded certification by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) of London on December 14th 1990 that its Quality System used in the “Production of insulated and non-insulated copper connectors and crimping terminals” is compliant with the following standards: ISO 9002 - 1987 EN 29002 - 1987 BS 5750: Part 2: 1987. Subsequently, on December 22nd 1992, Cembre S.p.A. was awarded ISO 9001 certification for “the Design and Manufacture of accessories for cables, electrical connectors and related tools”. The work carried out at the main headquarters in Brescia, together with the regional ofof fices in Italy and the subsidiary companies in the UK, France, Spain, Germany and the USA, is now all managed via a single Quality System, which is compliant with the requirements of the ISO 9001:2000 standard for: Design, manufacture and sales of electrical connectors and associated tools, cable accessories, marking systems, toolings and products for railway applications. In house repair, refurbishment and calibration of toolings.
Cembre S.p.A. has recently recognised the need to align its Environmental Management System with the spirit and content of UNI EN ISO 14001: 2004 as fundamental to future development development. To this end the company undertook a wideranging review of all functions including de development and design stages, material selec selection, usage and manufacturing processes.

the Cembre group The Cembre group is made up of eight companies. The controlling company, based in Brescia, is the main production unit, the others being Cembre Ltd in Birmingham, UK, and General Marking S.r.l., with administrative headquarters in Brescia and production facilities in Bergamo. The other five companies are purely sales-focused, and are located in Paris, Madrid, Oslo, Munich and Edison, New Jersey (USA). Our presence on the ground in several important western European countries enables the group to work directly and effectively with the individual markets, enhancing our exposure to the customers and ensuring immediate availability of a highly qualified technical and sales service.

Since its establishment in December 1986, the company has enjoyed years of continuous growth. Its main office, laboratories and works are located in Curdworth, near Birmingham, whilst its active sales force serves customers throughout the UK.
Cembre EspaĂąa SL, was established in 1994 and has achieved rapid success in the Spanish terminations and associated tools market. The main headquarters and the warehouse facility are located in Madrid, while other Cembre sales staff are conveniently located in Barcelona and Valencia.
Cembre Sarl has been continually developing its presence in the French market since 1988. Its headquarters, including laboratories and warehouse facilities, are in Morangis, near Paris while other Cembre sales staff are conveniently located in Lyon, Orleans and Toulouse.
Cembre AS of Stokke was founded in 1995 and has a proven track record of service to our customers in Norway and throughout Scandinavia.
Cembre Inc.
General Marking srl is a recently established wholly controlled subsidiary of Cembre S.p.A., working in the identification and labelling market. The company’s registered office is in Brescia while its main operational base is in Calcinate (near Bergamo). It offers a product catalogue of over 12,000 items.
Cembre GmbH of Munich was established in 1997 to provide direct support and a full range of group products to our customers in the German market.
Cembre Inc,, based in New Jersey, was founded in March 1999 to supply a full range of products suitable for the American market. It provides technical consul-
tancy, sales, maintenance and parts distribution services, while other Cembre sales and support staff are conveniently located in many other parts of the USA

Cembre Ltd is the Cembre group’s second European production unit. Founded in 1986, Cembre Ltd has enjoyed constant growth and has now achieved a position of considerable substance. It began with a small warehouse in the nearby industrial area of Coleshill, subsequently moving to the current premises in Curdworth with 6,000 m2 of space (including 4,000 m2 indoors), all wholly owned by the company.

It is located on the industrial outskirts to the east of Birmingham, the UK’s second city in the heart of the Midlands and once home of iron and steel and the motor car, where highly qualified allied industries are readily available to complement our production work. Cembre Ltd is dedicated primarily to the UK market, and its production output can readily meet the particular requirements of this market; the company’s flexibility also enables it to offer support to the other Cembre group companies.

The company dedicates the necessary investment to its Laboratory and test facilities, which provide essential support to the design function by ensuring conformance of the physical and electrical properties of the products.

The laboratories are equipped with all the standard instruments, as well as the following: – equipment for determining the physical state of metals (crystalline structure analysis); – a saline chamber for testing the behaviour of materials in aggressive climatic and environmental conditions over time; – instruments for checking the thickness of the cathodic coatings applied during the tinning, nickel plating, cadmium plating, galvanizing and silvering of connectors;

the workshop Cembre S.p.A. also designs and manufactures its own special tools and machines for the production of terminations and associated installation tools. This enables us to make products of guaranteed high quality and uniformity of specification as economically as possible. In the manufacture of its components, tooling and other equipment, Cembre S.p.A. uses an array of cutters, lathes, numerical control work stations, wire-spark erosion and plunge-spark erosion machines, which allow a high standard of precision and productivity to be maintained. The production of the various types of components involves the use of automatic presses powered by intelligent systems and transfers, to ensure high product reliability.

Automatic machines provide a rapid and accurate packaging solution for the various types of components which are sold in bags; these are then put into boxes of modular dimensions, facilitating well ordered storage on the shelves and quick retrieval. The distribution department adjacent to the warehouse batches up all the materials and packages them in the most suitable way for the method of delivery required by the customer.
